Jason, I concur. Mine is an old Norwood and I like the features your Wood Mizer has - particularly the hydraulics and that bark remover. I wish mine had those options. I thought you had the family away and were going to crank out more vids this past week. I guess the weather got in the way. I have friends over in Coos Bay and know that nice weather is an occasion for celebration for them.

Awesome big guy. Question on this video. I see you operating the hydraulics without the motor and re charging system going. I always found the draw to be a bit too much if you have a problem log and have to manipulate it a bunch. Kind of hard on the battery eh? I had an old lt35, then a brand new LT40HD, for about.....well...for over 20 years and four new motors. As far as I am concerned, a single mast and wood mizer are the best. So many irregular logs and two masts is just one more problem you don't have. Good job on the video amigo.

I was running the hydraulics that way so I could be heard in the video. Normally the engine would be running. I had filmed an explanation of that but for whatever reason, the footage wasn’t saved.

Very interesting. My father-in-law had a Wood Miser mill way back in the 80's, but it was just a basic model. We used it to build our 2nd log house. After the house was done he was constantly handling requests from everybody in the area (Easton,WA) to mill up timbers for their projects. Eventually my mother-in-law (a dear sweet lady) made him sell it because he was well into his 80"s and folks were working him like a rented mule. :-) We moved my in-laws over to Everett to live with us. My father-in-law lived to age 96, and enjoyed many years with his 5 great grandsons. Thanks for the video reminder of those good times.

Have you done a video on all the equipment needed to run a business as a sawyer? Minimum truck size. Trailer to haul logs to the saw. Equipment to handle logs. I’ve seen enough of your videos to get an idea? But it would be great to see it all in one video. Also logistics of taking saw to the logs or visa versa. Taking finished lumber to yard or to the customer. Lots of us love those back stories. Thanks!

Jason, I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on a sawmill. I really don't want to drop 20,000 on one. I like the idea of a trailer-mounted setup. What model would you recommend in the 10 to 15,000 range? also a single post or double post like the LX150.
@NorthwestSawyer
@NorthwestSawyer 4 жыл бұрын
Probably the lt15 go. I don’t think there’s a trailer option for the lx-150. Woodmizer.com would be able to answer any questions you might have. You might also look into a used unit to get a little more bang for your buck.

The battery is housed in the sawhead. It charges from an alternator on the saw. There is a copper power strip on the saw deck that makes contact when the sawhead is at the from of the deck to power the hydraulic pump.

I just binged watched your woodmizer videos all day as I'm in the market to get one myself for my property in Upstate New York by the Canadian border. I'm torn between going with a trailerable model or fixed unit. I noticed you trailer at around what I'm assuming is your own property? What do you think the pros and cons are. Seems to me I could bring the logs to the mill and have it in a pole barn or some kind of enclosure, love to hear your thoughts...
@NorthwestSawyer
@NorthwestSawyer 4 жыл бұрын
Actually I’ve seen several people who have set their mills up in a fixed location and then pulled the axel out which would make it easier to work around not having the tire in your way every pass. The LT 35 only comes as a trailer unit but once you get it where you want it, you can certainly do what suits you best. I do mill on-site for people so leaving mobile works best for me.

Great video. One question: when you made the last 2 cuts to produce 4x6s with the simple set you accounted for 1/8" kerf so the simple set dropped 4 1/8" each time. It looks like you got three perfect 4x6s so I am assuming that when you made the cant you did the math to cut off flitches to produce a cant which was 6" by 12 1/4"-- that accounts for two kerfs at 1/8" each? What if you had a bigger log and were making something thin like 3/4" boards, do you account for all of the kerf cuts when making the first cant?
@NorthwestSawyer
@NorthwestSawyer 4 жыл бұрын
That’s a great question. The saw can only cut down to within an inch or so of the deck. When I cut thinner material like fence boards at 5/8” thick, I just cut as many as I can until the saw won’t go any lower. You end up with a board that’s around an inch thick on the bottom. By the way, you’re correct about my math. I cut the cant 6”x12 1/4”

So it looks like a little tension in that cant. Question about the simple set though. You set the measurement then cut the log. Do you have to push a button when you get back to the end of the log? It must have an encoder reading the height movement. Have you heard of problems with that?
@NorthwestSawyer
@NorthwestSawyer 4 жыл бұрын
There was a touch of tension in that one which I don’t usually see in cedar. On the simple set, you set the measurement once and that’s it. Every time you fit the down lever it goes to the next cut.

Great job explaining all the functions of the mill! I like the way woodmizer set up the levers starting with the log lift on the far right and the log clamp on the far left. I guess the one lever that raises the side supports them switches to the log roller makes since. If you have the mill cutting moving forward on its own will it stop on its own or will it crash into a stop at the end? The debarker looks like a must have item prolonging blade life. I would imagine that after getting use to the simple set it must be a fast and accurate way to cut lumber! Great video!

Great video! I just got my LT35 last fall so I'm still figuring things out myself. Here's a possibility for a future video: mobile set-up and tear-down. For example, as a relative newby myself, one thing I have issues with from time to time relates to the log loader. During transport the loader is chained to the log turner arm, so the turner arm has to be raised first to de-tension the chain to lower the loader arms. And then when preparing the mill for transport it has to be done in reverse. Seems easy, but I always have to stop and think when I'm doing this and then find the right spot for the chain to hook on the turner arm. Keep the videos coming!

I logged both states and know the weather patterns, yearly temps, and the places that I logged then are being logged again. Your a good person and protect the surrounding areas that need it. Setting cut thickness from the control panel, incremental adjustment is in 1/8" or 1/16"? Repeat cut thickness how is that achieved?
@NorthwestSawyer
@NorthwestSawyer 3 жыл бұрын
The cuts are in 1/16th increments. When you’re in preset mode. You just tap the down lever and it lowers to your preset thickness measured from your previous cut.

Well now that's the best video I've ever seen on a wood mill. You strike me as someone who would make a good friend. So friend I've got 50 hours on my LT35 hydraulic, and the only gripe on the machine was the little white cap caused a vacuum on the water lube hose and the screen on the outlet valve clogged, so I removed the screen and we're both happy now!🙂 happy new year sir.

@@NorthwestSawyer This video you made is the one I would have loved to see back around August 2020. Lately I've been sawing up some red cedar boards 7/8×5:1/2" for the boss ( i mean wife), so she can build some bird houses. Well thanks again friend i will now watch some more of your videos and try to learn something.

Fabulous video! I love that it shows closeup views of some parts of the mill that I have not seen in any other videos. And the details descriptions are perfect. I had to laugh at the end of the video. I have a Woodland HM126 that I am replacing with -- guess what? An LT35HDG25 mill! I'm just a few years behind you! I'll probably watch this countless numbers of times! My mill is ordered, but 14 months out!!

Northwest Sawyer it’s only slightly more complicated. Just works from the deck instead of current head height, plus it automatically computes the kerf. Probably more simple in the long run.

I'm a new sub as of now. Great how to video! I've been retired for a couple of years and I am thinking of sawing logs mainly for my own use, and while the LT 35 is more than I can swing, I am considering the Woodland Mills 126 or 130. Do you have any good or bad feeling about the Woodland Mills models?
@NorthwestSawyer
@NorthwestSawyer 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I had the HM 126. It was a great mill. I built it into a trailer and sold it for $2k more than I pad for it new. Not to mention the money I made with it. If you just plan to saw for yourself it’s a great option.
