There are many things outside the internal issues that have led to his election. One of them is that the "markets" (big investors or the capitalist system) prefered him since he has a liberal reform agenda to give more benefits to the rich and privatize companies as well as being open to sell our natural resources. His future finance minister will be a guy who is a PhD in the University of Chicago. Ever since he has been high on the pools, the brazilian stocks (Ibovespa) have been rising and today the stocks went even higher as he got elected on Sunday. So you can see that he is the prefered candidate for the big companies and international investors. It even says on his wikipedia he is going to favor profit over people.

That is why Bolsonaro was in favor of reducing the penal age for these cruel cases to around 16, 17 years. And in the heat of the moment she screamed Bolsonaro of rapist and he retorted that she did not deserve to be raped. To summarize, she was defending the young murderer and rapist and he was wanting punishment, since by the laws of today a young man who commits this is likely to fulfill only a few years or months of jail.

After thinking everything through for this election, I realized the two (or maybe one) main reasons for me not to have voted for Haddad for his reelection as mayor of São Paulo. I was really annoyed for the slow speed limit he established the riverbank highways and I disliked the heavy traffic that started when he closed the Paulista Avenue for cars on Sundays. Even though I did like it when the speedlimits were raised again, I could see he took many brave measures as mayor that most populist politicians wouldn't dare make and many of them were really good (e.g. the bycicle pathways, prefecture approved plastic bags, prohibition of foie gras, even the closing of Paulista Avenue actually gave a new life to the neighboorhood). I think he might have been forced into corruption as much as he needed to have governability and he doesn't represent what Dilma and Lula were in the past mandates.
@vallttdysney77496 жыл бұрын
@sohopedeco6 жыл бұрын
@vallttdysney77496 жыл бұрын

Honestly I think that us westerners who live in nations where issues of this scale and type are largely foreign have no right to criticize Brazilians for chosing a person who makes promises like getting rid of corruption or stopping crime. We live in a different world and can't even imagine what it's like, so for us to criticize them for choosing a racist candidate is kind of rediculous. Check your privledge

bolsonaro is not racist. in his speech on september 7 (independence of Brazil) he celebrated the fact that brazil is a mixed race nation.

@kassiogomes84984 жыл бұрын
@@anton_s1 Yeah I live in Brasil. But what I am saying is that Brasil is not an eastern country. You can't say: "we westerns" because Brasil is, in fact, a western country. The problem is: Brasil is a third world country, so as any other third world country has corruption and crime issues. So the problems in Brasil aren't like the ones in Iraq, Afghanistan, and others eastern countries, the people aren't afraid of leaving their houses because there are bullets everywhere. The situation in Brasil is more like the one in Mexico or Argentina. The cities have more population than they should have it, and the city/state governments can't contain the crimes properly, they aren't prepared for it. It's like living in New York but everywhere is the like the subway. If you live in a city with less than 2 million people in Brasil the crime rates are very low, it's like living in the USA. The capitol of Brasil called DF has a HDI of 0.936 (HDI level of a first world country). So living in Brasil isn't the same as living in an eastern country.

This was a beautiful piece, kudos to the staff. It especially strikes home; I live in Haiti and right now we're living a big corruption scandal (Petro Caribe) but no one (government) seems to really take it seriously or those who are, are unable to do their job. The people are fed up with false prophets, liars, users. We had a dictatorship, it was hard, but today, I'm 32 been living in a "democracy" and everyday I wish for the military to come back (we don't have one since 1994). I could go on about what's really going on in Haiti but the point is: people are tired of the corruption, the shamelessness, the lies of the people they put in power to take care of them. Do a piece on Petro Caribe, you'll be amazed on how low our "leaders" are. Keep up the good work 👍🏾✊🏾

Brazilian here. Let's get one thing straight. Not a question of politics, but of facts. When vice president Mourão said the line that appears in this video, he wasn't referring to a military coup alike to 1964. He's referring to a specific article in the Brazilian Constitution that places upon the armed forces emergency powers to act in times of social unrest. This is all part of a long process that has to obey the steps set out in the Constitution before these emergency powers can even be enacted.
