She was wise enough to really "get" that there really was a rabbit hole vortex that she was heading to & soon to be nudged down if not out & out PUSHED to enter it. I had never heard of her before 2017 when I came across an article online interviewing her. It was a huge eye opener & I remember thinking that the industry has a FORMULA to get those contracted artists in line & how to extort from them labor which in turn NEVER ends. The artists get "handled" & controlled by an agency insider referred to as a manager. They enforce rules which their boss, the recording label, creates to work the artist over to ensure they are getting THEIR money's worth. The artist is literally ENSLAVED in the matrix & most comply to save face & keep up appearances. They are left with mere crumbs while the label is making the REAL cold, hard cash which they perpetually keep "all in the family" & thus sustain them for decades to come. I am glad that she woke ALL the way up & left.

We must remember that, in this era, Jim Crow segregation imposed a long laundry list of humiliations, degradations, tortures and crimes on black people that made progressive blacks of that era seek dignity in the presentation of blacks in media. To a lesser extent, that struggle continues today. We must be more thankful to our ancestors, who, all too often, paid a steep price that we can scarcely comprehend for us to even be here. Thank you Karine for doing such a great job, and keeping the content respectful & classy. in her autobiography, Donna Summer said the same thing, about how your life in the music industry is not your own, and how she was being controlled by legal substances, and being directed to what she could, and could not do, until she had a spiritual encounter, and went back to her faith. So many celeb books I have read will mention similar, that in some way they have been controlled. A lot of them are also under (m)ind (k)ontrol. When you look into the industry and go down the "rabbit hole", it's truly creepy and scary. The control is on such a high level. Very sad! So glad she had the good sense to get out, and that she could. I don't think some can.

Yes. Many of the photos were retouched to make her appear lighter. Bryant was 'bronze' not 'beige.' She was beautiful and glamorous. Bryant was very successful in mainstream cabaret venues where only white women and light-skinned Black women had been previously showcased.

Thank you for another amazing video about an African Descent Goddess, Ms. Joyce Bryant. May she rest in peace. She was one the smarter industry goddesses who realised at an early stage in her life that getting married and having a child/ren is not all that it's cracked out to be. Almost all, but a few of the Hollywood starlets had unhappy marriages and unhappy motherhood experiences. With that sort of reality, you would think many women would seriously think twice, thrice about marriage and having a child with a man to try and keep him around or make him love you more. That never works. All you will be left with is you and your child/ren. Despite the high numbers of divorced mothers and single mothers starring at women in the face, you would think that many women would stop rushing into marriages and having children to please a man, family, society or to fill an empty space in their lives. It's not fair to bring a child into this world and treat it as a cruch and human toy because you are not enough for YOU. If fewer women stopped having random children by every man who declared love (to get sex), the world would be a better place, and women would rule again.

Interesting thing is that from a young age growing up, I never drank that stupid Kool Aid that I must get married and have kids. I still think so to this day. I prefer to have a man I love, live in separate homes, but be lifetime lovers. If it ends, it ends and we move one. That's life for you. Even marriage and kids can't keep a man and woman together. I think she used ice water on her skin. I Did a video on black makeup and in one of the pictures I found of Joyce she had a bucket of ice water next to her. Stars like Joan Crawford did this so I believe Joyce probably did as well. Along with maybe Vaseline for shine. In her magazine interviews she mentioned she never wore foundations and only wore mascara and lipstick

For some reasons, singers back in those days in the movies sang like opera was the style to go with. When songs broke out, it was (I think) pretty corny, towards conservative audiences. So that's the look that young people are going for today- premature gray. I got my streaks from my two youngest sons and the trauma of their deaths among three out of four of my children. And through all my loss, I have personally learned that God's grace is sufficient. I was never one that was ashamed of my hair because I know what it means to grow old, gracefully.
