Great vid but for what it’s worth the distressor is technically a VCA compressor although it can emulate various compressors like the opto La2a and fet 1176 🤷♂️

The Alesis compressor story came from Daft Punk indeed, but I cannot stop to wonder how true it is. Maybe in their first tracks? You can (or used to) get this for 20-30 USD, seems it might be a bit more now, with all the mods and whatnot. Regarding "microsampling" I wonder too... Goblin's entire leads can be found on this album 😂
@BeatsbyVanity7 ай бұрын
I actually have one, but I've never used it! I think it was definitely a process from their earlier work, as their later music is too clean. Also, what do you mean by 'Goblin's entire leads can be found on this album'?
@remka20007 ай бұрын
@@BeatsbyVanity I mean this song in particular kzbin.info/www/bejne/d4CYdaGuh5ihmJosi=hDzUyGldoBZ9qagQ Doesn't sound very micro, almost like a remix 😅 (I do love both tracks though).
@BeatsbyVanity7 ай бұрын
@@remka2000 Yeah, they sampled a lot of this for "Phantom." I didn't realize just how much they had taken, though. I used the intro sample from this track for the remake of "Phantom Part II," but "Phantom" is almost entirely sourced from this. Not an example of their 'micro' sampling techniques, admittedly 🤣

@@BeatsbyVanity I use mine all the time. Always have. Put my SP404 through it. It's probably because it was a cheap, well made compressor with a sidechain input. I honestly think it sounds very similar to the french house music. It might just be a placebo effect.

They did everything ITB, supposedly with GarageBand but I don’t believe it
@BeatsbyVanity9 ай бұрын
It could be ITB if much of the material came from sampling. According to Wikipedia, there were around 400 albums used for samples on Cross. However, I read that it was more a combination of GarageBand/Cubase SX with hardware, followed by their micro-sampling techniques. Some have also speculated on Sebastian's involvement.
@johndoe_19849 ай бұрын
@@BeatsbyVanityinteresting thanks. I think so too for Sebastian. If you compare Justice’s 2005 demo and Cross in 2007 it’s day also nigh production wise. Unless they improved drastically in 2 years, someone might have been involved. And Cross sounds a lot like Sebastian.
@BeatsbyVanity9 ай бұрын
@@johndoe_1984 That makes sense. Cross is their standout work, and it is very different from the rest of their catalog. However, I wonder why Sebastian's involvement, if true, wasn't officially credited.

@@BeatsbyVanity yeah maybe "ghost" producer, or gave them tips? Here's DANCE demo kzbin.info/www/bejne/eaKvd3-ahd6AqqM, track is cool but without the final mix, it would not have been a hit. There's a few demos out there too.

Have y’all checked out the mixed with the masters Q&A? A lot of good information in there. Quadrafuzz VST is a lot of the sound. I’ve always agree with the SebastiAn speculation - Justice really struggle to recreate their 2007 sound even when they try.

Hey not sure if I missed it - What are the macros you created for the Vital bass you used for the Bass synth?
@BeatsbyVanity5 ай бұрын
You didn't miss it; I did, as I didn't end up using them. It's just a macro for Envelope 2's release control.

Interesting, I remember when Trillion was the go to plugin for bass. Thanks for letting me know!
@morganmensa51293 ай бұрын
@@BeatsbyVanity Pretty sure that Trillion is in Omnisphere now. I would really like to know how they got that throughty chorused sound. Nilesh Patel or Nilz was the mastering engineer and he might have been the reason it sounds so analog in some ways.
@BeatsbyVanity3 ай бұрын
@@morganmensa5129 Sadly, it’s still a separate library. I own Omnisphere, and I believe, like with Keyscape, you can load the patches in Omnisphere, but you need to own Trilian separately to do that.
