In 2017, Juul catapulted to the top of the e-cigarette market. But the company's valuation has fallen just as quickly, as a series of crises have led to hundreds of lawsuits alleging that the company marketed its products to teens. Photo Illustration: Jacob Reynolds/WSJ

Pretty sure this whole thing was because the tobacco industry was threatened by Juul. That’s why Altria (the same company that owns Marlboro) bought the company just to kill it off. Similar to the business strategy of Rockefeller buying refineries just to shut them down to drive up demand.

Unfortunate that 'vaping' could mean anything from using a dry herb vaporizer for medical cannabis, lavender, chamomile, etc, puffing on a black market THC cart laced with vitamin E acetate, or using e-cigarettes. It's really a misleading term that creates a lot of confusion.
@SlimTony
@SlimTony 3 жыл бұрын
@@Pellagrah Well, same as smoking pot or cigarettes... Sacrifices in specificity are necessary for easier understanding, unfortunately Also, if you want to know more about the deaths, look up "EVALI" (Electric vaping associated acute lung injury). It's the official medical term for the condition. And it was pretty clear from the get go that this isn't a problem with vaping in general as all the cases happened in the US alone (to my knowledge) and within a short time frame while vaping itself was already established for multiple years.

You ever try to stop people using a device that does NOT reek like cigarette smoke and can be disguised and hidden quite easily? For decades, there have always been some kids smoking pot and cigarettes in some bold fashion or another. Add in the ease of disguising vaping and the lack of widespread odor, there is very little one can to do stop it. So, how much resources should a school expend fighting very ineffectively against vaping. IMO, what was needed was better laws and better enforcement along with generally more rapid public outrage against the advertising in general AND especially against the teen-oriented marketing.

They could tax juul. But then they would be getting revenue off the “devil’s product” that tempts kids. Tbh I’m a massive critic of this as well, but I try to understand the other side. I think one difference between juul and cigarettes is that society has done a pretty good job of making cigarettes socially undesirable. They’re available but pretty sure kids these days don’t go after them like they did 30 years ago. Allowing juul’s basically reverses that progress. But even that isn’t a real argument because only adults are supposed to be able to purchase juuls. The real problem is stores not asking for ID. This is the real problem in my mind because if you fix that at least kids need to wait till they’re 21 to start.

When you put it that way it doesn't seem that bad, there are many more pod systems that are way better than the juul both in terms of quality, battery life, eco friendliness and cloud production, but I fear that this type of tyrannical government suppression is only going to increase with time as they go after companies like suorin. As the government becomes ever more redundant, it will become more aggressive in its attempts to continue its parasitic existence on this country

@@bruhmoment9700 I don't see it as tyrannical supression when they are actively trying to stop high schoolers from devolping a smoking habit. A company like JUUL should not have imagery that is appealing to an underaged audience in the first place. For example, the bright colors, the advertisements, and the flaoured pods. There is a reason that ciggarrette packs have grotesque imagery on their packets, are not allowed to advertise or have flavoured products either.
