Harris’s unwavering support for Israel during the "war" in Gaza was a critical miscalculation. In Pennsylvania, 34% of voters would have been more likely to support her with an arms embargo, with similar figures in Georgia (39%) and Arizona (35%)-while only 7%, 5%, and 5% were less likely. By ignoring this clear path to victory, she lost crucial young, Muslim, and undecided voters. Not even considering Michigan, this stance could have given Harris a net gain of 900k votes in PA (19 EVs), 864k in GA (16 EVs), and 350k in AZ (11 EVs)-adding 46 electoral votes and bringing her total to 272 vs. 226. It doesn't actually make any difference whether the President is Republican or Democrat. The genius of the American ruling class is that it has been able to make the people think that they have had something to do with the electing of presidents for 200 years when they've had absolutely nothing to say about the candidates or the policies or the way the country is run.-Gore Vidal
@covertpuppytwo3857Ай бұрын
Yawn!
@micahmackinnon99Ай бұрын
The ugly truth is that the ruling class in the US has a grip on the levers of the political parties, which means that candidates are approved and vetted by the wealthiest execs and the consultant class (who work for the wealthy or other special interest groups). We have seen the type of suppression this caste of powerful and influential figures are capable of with how Bernie Sanders has been treated in two presidential primaries in 2016 and 2020. This doesn’t mean that voting and by extension voters are incapable of choice, this election proves that. If the ruling class continues to make unpopular choices regarding candidates, people will stay home. The single incentive that the donors, consultants, DNC execs, and Dem political candidates pursue is the same: access to power. That access still only exists through elections, so if the ruling class wants power they will be forced to reconcile their unpopular Centrism-Conservativism with their desire for power. This can also explain why Biden was elected despite the obvious behind-the-scenes suppression of Bernie (like all Democrat primary candidates coalescing around Biden to beat Trump despite Bernie polling better against Trump than Biden). Biden’s progressive policies he campaigned on represented a bald-faced negotiation with the growing progressive voting bloc, almost like the DNC was trying to extend a hand to the people who wanted more progressive, systemic policy shifts. Now ask yourself, did Harris extend that same hand or did her campaign broadly shift to Center-Right politics (deeply unpopular when polled), like immigration crack downs, broadening US reliance on fossil fuels and other environmentally unsafe practices, and warmongering?

To the panelist Christina Greer, I found her comments relating to Black men voting for Trump highly suspect and offensive. First off, it was a high number of Black men who voted for Donald Trump simply because the Democratic party has never done anything for the black community, especially Black men. Secondly to claim their motivation was based on misogynistic beliefs is a copout and Democratic talking point. I'm a Black woman and I own a small family business, I can say emphatically that Donald Trump received a great deal of votes from Black Americans because many of us have opened our eyes to the broken promises and grandioso dreams of the Democratic Party. We as Americans were far better off under his administration when he was president and will be again for the next four years. Final thoughts, the Democratic party proved just how undemocratic they are based upon the results of this election. Mark bro you should know better.

Ryan is 100% correct about corporate greed. Going after corporate greed coupled with actually standing up for working class people (of all stripes) would have gone a long way. Globally, incumbents (liberal & conservative) are getting tossed out door to post-pandemic high inflation. So, it was always going to be a tough slog but, taking on corporate greed - which would also have given the populous a place to focus their anger/discontent - and sincerely standing with working people *might* have been enough to tip it in her favor. It also would have sent a clear anti-establishment message about The Democratic Party at large that could be applied moving forward.

Some say Kamala needed more time to forge her campaign. What would have worked is for the Dems to do a better job in the 3+ years before the election. If their legacy in office was a popular presidency with a much longer list of achievements they could have run anyone and won.
@briane596ableАй бұрын
Well the republicans are just going to vote no on any new policy suggested, then get into office eat away at whatever non publicized gains Democrats already made.

Emma Doyle sounds non-credible during this discussion. Trump doesn’t protect others, he uses them when convenient and is quick to disavow any association with them when they’re no longer useful or become inconvenient. Loyalty with Trump is a one-way thing.

trump has spent his entire life conning people into giving him their money. that's all that he's about. the fact that the dems lost to this moron TWICE only demonstrates how their own greed and venality blinds them as well.

People on the left despise paternalism. The right loves it, as long as they are chief in their domain. Onama dressing down the men volunteering for Harris was bad. Lecturing Palestinians about October 7, and snuggling up with the Cheneys was also awful. And, while it might only still only reside in the back of most people's minds, Michelle Obama was doing similar, with Bush. I understand that they are trying to message that we are not all mortal enemies, but the policies of these individuals often produce dire outcomes for everyday people.

Liz Chaney is one of the highest profile never Trump republicans … far from perfect but that union was already baked in the cake with the impeachment hearings. I think you’re going to hear less reporting on Palestine in general not that Netanyahu & AIPAC got they’re way

This was a good panel discussion and mostly sensible. The black lady did say some things that I think brought the quality down of the discussion, while katy halper and Ryan grim was bang on the money. It's also very nice to have a very cordial and engaged republican trump staff member explained rationally and reasonable her thoughts as well.
