Here we go again. I consider myself an Independent with moderate leanings to the left but this is what drives me crazy about the Democratic Party: they waste time looking for who to blame and what went wrong instead of regrouping and listening to the concerns of the country as a whole and coming up with a way to reinvent themselves. Enough already! I was told there are 2 things you shouldn’t complain about: what you CAN change and what you CAN’T. If you can change it, do it; if you can’t, move on!

I'm a democrat that stayed home. I was completely turned off by Kamala's handling of pro-palestinian protestors, the fact that she's a former prosecutor and yet she refused to hold Israel accountable for breaking international law regarding the genocide in Gaza, and the fact that she said she would do nothing differently than Joe Biden even though she was campaigning as the candidate that represented change. If she had showed some integrity and stood up to Joe Biden and demanded an arms embargo, I would've voted for her. As far as I'm concerned, she has the blood of 43,000 Palestinians on her hands. Was totally disgusted by her campaign.

Harris’s unwavering support for Israel during the "war" in Gaza was a critical miscalculation. In Pennsylvania, 34% of voters would have been more likely to support her with an arms embargo, with similar figures in Georgia (39%) and Arizona (35%)-while only 7%, 5%, and 5% were less likely. By ignoring this clear path to victory, she lost crucial young, Muslim, and undecided voters. Not even considering Michigan, this stance could have given Harris a net gain of 900k votes in PA (19 EVs), 864k in GA (16 EVs), and 350k in AZ (11 EVs)-adding 46 electoral votes and bringing her total to 272 vs. 226. This costly oversight was avoidable.

It doesn't actually make any difference whether the President is Republican or Democrat. The genius of the American ruling class is that it has been able to make the people think that they have had something to do with the electing of presidents for 200 years when they've had absolutely nothing to say about the candidates or the policies or the way the country is run.-Gore Vidal

The ugly truth is that the ruling class in the US has a grip on the levers of the political parties, which means that candidates are approved and vetted by the wealthiest execs and the consultant class (who work for the wealthy or other special interest groups). We have seen the type of suppression this caste of powerful and influential figures are capable of with how Bernie Sanders has been treated in two presidential primaries in 2016 and 2020. This doesn’t mean that voting and by extension voters are incapable of choice, this election proves that. If the ruling class continues to make unpopular choices regarding candidates, people will stay home. The single incentive that the donors, consultants, DNC execs, and Dem political candidates pursue is the same: access to power. That access still only exists through elections, so if the ruling class wants power they will be forced to reconcile their unpopular Centrism-Conservativism with their desire for power. This can also explain why Biden was elected despite the obvious behind-the-scenes suppression of Bernie (like all Democrat primary candidates coalescing around Biden to beat Trump despite Bernie polling better against Trump than Biden). Biden’s progressive policies he campaigned on represented a bald-faced negotiation with the growing progressive voting bloc, almost like the DNC was trying to extend a hand to the people who wanted more progressive, systemic policy shifts. Now ask yourself, did Harris extend that same hand or did her campaign broadly shift to Center-Right politics (deeply unpopular when polled), like immigration crack downs, broadening US reliance on fossil fuels and other environmentally unsafe practices, and warmongering?

It's actually much, MUCH worse than that. That is just the decline from 2020. But even in 2020, about 1/3rd of registered voters stayed home. Jill Stein received only .05% of the votes. She didn’t even beat Kamala Harris in Dearborn. One is better making the case that *’funding these wars are hurting your finances* and what’s happening in Palestine is a crime’ rather than saying it’s all about X

To the panelist Christina Greer, I found her comments relating to Black men voting for Trump highly suspect and offensive. First off, it was a high number of Black men who voted for Donald Trump simply because the Democratic party has never done anything for the black community, especially Black men. Secondly to claim their motivation was based on misogynistic beliefs is a copout and Democratic talking point. I'm a Black woman and I own a small family business, I can say emphatically that Donald Trump received a great deal of votes from Black Americans because many of us have opened our eyes to the broken promises and grandioso dreams of the Democratic Party. We as Americans were far better off under his administration when he was president and will be again for the next four years. Final thoughts, the Democratic party proved just how undemocratic they are based upon the results of this election. Mark bro you should know better.

Harris made many miscalculations in VP pick. And for Democrats, as Bernie Sanders said, Democrats moved away from working people and working people didn't get excited for her. Harris taught abortion is the #1 issue, the vote showed economy, and job is the #1 issue.
@MinkytheMinkY
@MinkytheMinkY Ай бұрын
It was wild to me, they sent me a survey and their options on what to focus on for messaging was not economy enough. Their survey was so skewed towards billionaire concerns. To add, abortion resonated with some, but it was also on state ballots, so if some voted to protect abortion and also voted Trump, I wouldn't be surprised.

Panel interviewer: "I thought there would have been more fear" [that would have pushed more people to vote for Kamala Harris]: That was the whole modus operandi of the Democrats campaign. The only good thing about the disastrous government management of the pandemic is that the people sharpen their critical sense since then; scare tactics are less effective and fewer are drinking that Kool-Aid.

Ryan is 100% correct about corporate greed. Going after corporate greed coupled with actually standing up for working class people (of all stripes) would have gone a long way. Globally, incumbents (liberal & conservative) are getting tossed out door to post-pandemic high inflation. So, it was always going to be a tough slog but, taking on corporate greed - which would also have given the populous a place to focus their anger/discontent - and sincerely standing with working people *might* have been enough to tip it in her favor. It also would have sent a clear anti-establishment message about The Democratic Party at large that could be applied moving forward.

People on the left despise paternalism. The right loves it, as long as they are chief in their domain. Onama dressing down the men volunteering for Harris was bad. Lecturing Palestinians about October 7, and snuggling up with the Cheneys was also awful. And, while it might only still only reside in the back of most people's minds, Michelle Obama was doing similar, with Bush. I understand that they are trying to message that we are not all mortal enemies, but the policies of these individuals often produce dire outcomes for everyday people.
