That's great, interesting storytelling that gives us a deeper insight into our main characters. Griffith coping with the loss of Guts by raping Charlotte so that he can feel at least some for of validation/power? A great way to highlight how fucked up Griffith is even before all the most extreme shit starts going down and reinforces how much Guts meant to him. Literally the entirety of the Wyald story arc, the rape horse, and countless other entirely unnecessary rape scenes that reeeeallly just did not need to be there? Nah, fuck that shit it's just excessive. It doesn't actually do anything to deepen the story or expand the world, it could have been removed.

@@gusbart5856 yeah I got back into it and loved the rest, but the lost children arc in general is a hard read, absolutely not shocked it's never been animated the whole arc is beyond cruel. I do like stuff I find difficult to read or watch, I'd rather be repulsed or distraught than bored with my media; sayakas downfall in madoka, last few episodes of devilman crybaby, junpeis fate in jujutsu kaisen, serpicos flash back about why he dislikes fire or Bojack Horseman storyline about princess carolines great great great grandaughter from the future. then there is the lost children arc; Rosine kidnaps children and turns them into monsters for her fantasy of living with elves, said monsters do the most horrific shit imaginable to their victims and each other, dead ones leave a field of child corpses everywhere, Guts burns down the forest with all the orbs filled with children transforming into monsters definitely killing any of the kids that might have been saveable like the girl who was friends with Rosine, douses himself when he catches fire with child.... viscera, amniotic fluid, pulp from a chiild cocoon tis a bit much

Watched game of thrones, watched attack on Titan, greatest tv show and anime of all time respectively (excluding endings). Then I read berserk, finished it yesterday, and it genuinely is the best story of all time. I don’t think I’ll ever HEAR OF OR READ ANY STORY, let alone a manga, that will come close to this. This is the best work of entertainment I’ve enjoyed. Thank you, Kentaro Miura. And it feels so empty knowing I won’t enjoy anything like this again 💔..

That is certainly a way to look at it. But especially the later part of Beserk features much less rape. Now you could interpret that differently. Which is why so many people have different opinions on the matter. Some think that Kentaro regreted the rape scenes he wrote and started featuring less of them because of that regret. Me personally? I believe that the part of beserk that featured less rape was planned very early on. Guts is starting to heal his open wounds by surrounding himself with genuinely good people. The recent arcs are focused on the healing process of our Protagonist, so rape as an traumatic occurence is not required for now.

I’ve been catching up on Berserk myself and I’ve been enjoying it, I would recommend it if you can get past the more unsavory parts like the gore/rape/and who knows what else… I’m in the Golden Age arc so I don’t know the what else yet, I’m personally not going to be one of those “heh you don’t like reading rape scenes, you’re too sensitive” like a lot of the fans say because I’ve been a victim and Ngl it was hard for me to read a few scenes myself. But if you can get past it, it’s very enjoyable.

But yeah I do agree that its not just Berserk, but most other dark fantasy media use rape excessively as an easy way to make their world and story seem dark.
