I literally spent the past hour and a half watching your videos about being in Korea. I am graduating college soon and have been thinking of my future plans a lot more. When I came to school here though and since I was a senior in high school I have always said that I wanted to teach English in South Korea. But these past few years I had gotten involved in my campus ministry and have really started to build a relationship with God and the community. I feel like I've learned so much more in my past few years of my belief and of God than I have in the years before I came here. Because of this, I wanted to do something in ministry. But right now, it is not something I could really afford. So the idea of going to South Korea and teaching English there has re-emerged. Seeing this, and seeing your videos is really helpful and inspiring, and thanks to you I feel much more prepared and much more ready if going there is what God has planned for me. One of the things I learned recently while listening to the song Home is that God makes the places he takes us our home. Of course not our real home, but he makes the places we are and the places we go a home. Thank you so much for your videos!
@MelodyAlisa8 жыл бұрын
Wow thank you!! I definitely agree - God will turn the places we go into our home. I would've never thought this place would become that for me but it has. I wish you the best of luck in all that is to come!

It is so awesome to hear about how your faith really changed you! And definitely a God thing that you met someone who could walk with you in that journey. I am moving to Korea in February and one thing I definitely want to do is either start or join a Bible study wherever I live. It's something to keep you grounded and sane (haha!) while also being a good way to meet other people with similar mindsets even in a foreign country.

idk if someone answered this. but those english words with e endings are pronounced with uh, because in korean for example Home Plus is written as 홈플러스 and the last bit /스/ seu/suh. this character ㅡ is pronounced eu (or uh). so those words can't really be written in korean without that character.

I especially like how you talked about being ADAPTIVE to random situations and going with the flow instead of freaking out. I am learning this as I like to feel in control -- but we're only limited to what we can control. We may not be able to control everything but we can certainly control our REACTION to it. I ask myself, "is this really worth losing my peace and joy?" no.

LadyClaudine I'm not sure she is. Intoverts can be taught extrovert traits, and I think that's more likely to be what's happened. Us ambiverts need to interact with people but also need alone time. Hearing her say she feels anxiety around most people makes me think she wouldn't be an ambivert, but I could wrong! 😊
@chinesefood22228 жыл бұрын
Lexie Lou Ah, I see your point. I vastly enjoy my alone time but after so long i do require interaction. But if one gets anxiety from social interactions that does say introvert. Interesting..I must ponder this!

Gosh Mel, you don't have thousands of subscribers for no reason. You are incredibly special and encouraging in so many ways. I just discovered Korea & I have totally fallen in love with it. I would love to teach in Korea for a year but I AM SCARED! It's just so left field from anything I would ever do in my life. I have a stable job & and my life is kind of set (in that respect) but I am so sure that the country is calling out to me. I love your level 3 reason! I'm secretly praying that if I ever manage to go to Korea, my level 3 reason would be that God sent me there. I will miss your Korea videos but I'm really looking forward to any videos that you will make when you get back home. All the best. You inspire me.

Love your video, listening to the last part about you finding your faith again is definitely inspirational and comforting. I am currently in Thailand and plan to make my way over to South Korea next year and one way. I can definitely say that i have grown is learning to be more adaptive to different types of people from all walks of life. A big struggle for me though was finding a church that offered a service in English especially when placed in a smaller town. This is why i love your video so much because i was afraid that i would face this same issue in Korea. To end though, this is a great video because i have realized that when you are a foreigner traveling or you teaching abroad, it is not often that you find foreigners who have a religion(much less believe in anything at all).

Luckily in Korea, even in the smallest of towns, you can find an English service at a church, which is a blessing!

I never leave comments on videos but I just want to say thank you so much for sharing about your faith. I can relate to this because a few years ago I was deeply drawn into the new age, crystals, meditation, calling God "the universe". And let me tell you it led me into one of the darkest and most depressing phases of my life. Today I have a relationship with God and next year I plan to, just like you, teach English in South Korea. I was worried about what effect it would have moving away from my church and the relationships I've made here in my own country. This video calmed my concerns so much! Knowing that there are people there who will grow with you in your faith is comforting and something to look forward to! Thank you ❤️

Mel on the Move Girl pray for my direction because as I research I'm considering doing both! Korea first then Spain. (ya know for the extra cash flow prior to doing Spain). There's no comparison income wise. Although, I am not doing this for financial gain. That's not where my heart is initially when I set out to do this. I'm currently earning Master in Elementary Education. My goal is to become a principal then Superintendent to effect education systematically. The U.S. does not fund or give enough resources to the education system. I wish we had year around school and valued education like other countries.

Thank you for sharing your testimony, so happy your relationship with God has gotten so much stronger. I'm currently in high school and I feel so scared that when I go off to college I might end up stop connecting with him/stop going to church? It's such a huge worry for me but I'm so glad your faith in God is stronger than ever. Thank you :-)

The most important thing is to build and maintain a personal connection with God- this doesn't have to involve church (I personally don't actually attend church but I've felt my bond to God grow much stronger the past couple years due to doing some Bible studying in my own time and such :)) So even if somehow your college conditions make it hard to attend church for some reason, all that really matters is that you maintain that bond you have to Him within your own mind, heart, and spirit :) Allow yourself to be guided by Him and He will help you to always maintain that solid spiritual connection! Have a great day :D
@nissybo8 жыл бұрын
I've been in church my whole life and then went to college and doubted the disconnection would happen but I'm afraid to say that it does. You'll have questions you've never had before, not necessarily doubt, but your perspective will be much bigger. You'll want to understand what other people believe so passionately the way you believe in Jesus. But these are not bad things. You will grow closer with God by learning more about him. You'll realize how much bigger he is, bigger and better than you've ever thought. The main reason this happened to me is because I joined a Christian club on campus (CRU aka Campus Crusade for Christ) which had open minded people and helped me deepen my faith. Pray about it though.
@MelodyAlisa8 жыл бұрын
I completely agree with both @destaiXIII and @Aniska Coley. You guys are so loving and kind. Stay encouraged @jenni! College will definitely bring new trials your way but as long as you keep Him in the forefront of your mind & heart, your connection with Him won't waver!

They say 'uh' after words because that's how it's spelt in Hangul. Like the worlds sound similar to the English word of the same meaning but it has some notable difference in pronunciation. Hehe so it's not that they add 'uh', that's how the word is actually pronounced there.

Wow our testimonies are really similar. I grew up in church too- went to a Catholic elementary through college. Got sent home for clinical depression my senior year. I'm really happy to hear that Korea helped you be a little more open! I am the saaaame way with being introverted except when I'm with /my/ people. It's like being around other people who aren'y "mine" is kind of draining when it gets to a point, where as it's energizing to be with my own tribe haha. But as I am in the process to teach there later this year, my introverted tendencies are the only thing making me nervous about going. I'm confident in pretty much everything else, except I'm scared it's going to hold me back from making a connection with people. I identify with a lot of things you have said, so hearing all this is very encouraging :) calms a lot of my nerves haha. thank you!

Glad you found Jesus again, Mel. I am quite a bit older than you, but I had a similar experience in terms of going "metaphysical". After a very difficult period of stress and anxiety, 2 people suggested that I read the book "The Secret". That book brought me a lot of comfort, so I started reading other books and listening to audiobooks from other New Age/Ancient Wisdom authors. But I felt that same emptiness - that something, or rather "someone" was missing. The power of who I was "within" didn't do jack for me when I needed something STRONGER than me to get me through life's difficulties. I'm glad that though some folks were worried about me during this phase, my Jesus wasn't. He stayed with me and pulled me out and back to Him. Emptinesss filled. :-)

Video playing fine for me...no problems!haha omg I say Cute-uh now...lmao I'm silly. A lot of the deeper changes is something I wish and hope to happen to me. If I get the chance to go to Korea and do what you did....I definitely want to feel changed....like cleansed. right now my life feel so chaotic and everyone problems piling on me....not even my problems. I want to get away....and just focus on myself and my life and my feelings and learn more about myself. I feel I could be more open and awesome lol if I get the chance to show my other side. I will be turning 30 next month and need a major eye opening experience to get me on track and just restart because life is not going anywhere near what I planned of course. Thank you for this video! really enjoyed it. I smiled the whole time :-D

PHEW! It ended up being just a problems on my computer at school - but I was scared for a sec haha. Anywho, moving over here (which I def think you will be doing :)) will for suuure give you a chance to focus your energy more on you! One of my friends was actually exactly where you are when she came - 30 and wanting a change, to gain clarity, etc. She came for a year and she literally got exactly what she needed. I'm so glad you enjoyed the vid, thank you so much for watching and for always leaving a comment. You are awesome!!

Lol i definitely say mm - mm - mm a lot since living in China lol! I kind of hate I do it but its what everyone does here to signal that they understand and are listening. haha! Glad I found your channel - cool to see another black woman in Asia. Lol but I agree with you about having to deal with so much BS on a day-to-day basis here that I feel like I can handle anything. The fact that I've managed to live here for three years (I've gone home 3 times) really has surprised me. I was so comfortable back home but I knew I needed to get 'comfortable' in the 'uncomfortable.'

Haha! I'm glad you found me too!! & 3 years? wow! that's awesome. Do you think you'll go for four?
@lisewagnac36238 жыл бұрын
Maybe - the way things are looking now in the U.S. lol and my boyfriend wants to stay here. I do think, however, I may move to another country in Asia in the next year - still thinking about it!

All good! I ended up getting the job that I wanted so I'm going to be staying put for now. But say I didn't get it? I would of taken the opportunity to go! I'm sure there'll come a time and place where I'll have the opportunity to go again.

I understand what you're saying, life in the University shifts your foundations and it makes you show your own flaws, your weaknesses, and really the only way to get through that period is holding on to God, not letting go of Him even if the skies and the earth dissapears, I understand what you're saying because right now I'm in college and I really found out how weak my spiritual life and my relationship with God was and I'm trying now to develop that personal relationship with Him, reading the Bible and praying to God so that He can help me to understand His message for me and to learn to live according to His will even if it's against what I want, have faith in Him, God didn't promised that you wouldn't face difficulties and troubles He promised that regardless of them He WILL be at your side even if you don't feel like He is there and He will reward you at last, soo hang in there, study your Bible and ask God for guidance with a sincere and humble heart and you will see His Providence in your life day by day. May God bless you and Keep you

You said it soooo perfectly!! The weight it takes off your shoulders when you realize you don't have to try to figure it all out by yourself is life changing in itself. Thank you for this comment and may God bless you on your journey!!
@shekimarobinson92868 жыл бұрын
Thank you and I hope the same for you too, people in University usually think is just mere fanatism but they had never tried having God and then get far from Him, it's just like you have cut out your source of life, your like a dead man woman

I have a few questions regarding teaching abroad as I’m interviewing with several places. How can we message you directly?
@veejay71678 жыл бұрын
I love your videos. I do have a few questions, which I'm sure you may have addressed before, so, I apologize in advance. I have a daughter, she's a Jr in college. I think something like this would be great for her. Did you go to Korea, immediately after graduating? How long do you intend to stay? Lastly, did you initially feel concern re your safety?
@MelodyAlisa8 жыл бұрын
I came 6 months after I graduated (application process is 6 months long), the teaching contract you sign is for 1 year (I resigned and have been here for 2 years now) and no, that's one thing I love about Korea - it's one of the safest countries in the world.

How do you speak to koreans? How do you shop and those things? Are the computers where you work in korean? How do you use them? Sorry if you said that but I'm spanish and my English is like... basic(?) xD
@MelodyAlisa8 жыл бұрын
I speak very little so I say what I know how to say, use gestures, and google translate. the computers have korean under the English letters!
