The cottage stonework is getting a fresh coat of lime plaster, this will help let the building breathe.

Here on my channel, I am renovating a 250 year old stone cottage on my property in Normandy, France. By using traditional, low-waste and off-grid methods, I'm aiming to keep the charm and character of this old building, and turn it into a furnished, finished home for family whilst keeping environmental impact as low as possible. There will also be content on living in France, visiting beautiful rural places, hunting for antiques, gardening, and more! Hit subscribe if you would like to keep up with my journey, and hit the notification bell to be alerted when we go LIVE where we have a first viewing of the video as it is published with a live chat so I can answer all your questions! See you in Sean's World.

It would look so lovely sean, if you were to put a stained glass window above the door as a kind of fake transom....would allow extra light in as well... Same on that back wall--let some light is using windows...

What I could see, it looked like a carpenter bee. Nasty buggers, they lay their eggs in studwork. The adult bee doesn't eat the wood like a termite, but they do chew it to make a cavity for their eggs. They can wreak havoc in wood.

I have seen quite a few of the old buildings with the lime used as plaster and didn't realize the significance of it, now I do. Thanks for showing/telling me the reason behind it all. I will look at them a bit differently now. The building is not cracked just the plaster on top. lol Have a great day

I don't know if burning sage sticks or citronella or even coffee grounds in your chimney might ward off bees and wasps. Great work on the walls I hope those bees don't set up house in your walls before you get to the outside. well done Sean:) love the vane and the salmon terrine mold :) You could also do liver or any other like duck :) Mousse's are also nice to try in them.

I read as much as I could find about wasps & yellow jackets. The started nesting by my trash cans and stung me twice, it was very painful and lasted a long time. Fall is when they like to build nests and become irritable, so best to try to deter them before they settle in.

Your weather vane has O for east. In French, it would be Est so also an E. In German East is Ost, so maybe the vane is from Germany?
@nialdean
@nialdean 4 сағат бұрын
Actually it is nord sud est ouest for north south east and west in French - I remember thinking ouest was for east when I was at the Eiffel Tower trying to find my mother (the legs are named north south east and west) and I came to the est leg and got real confused and gave in and checked what ouest meant

Sam, don't wait on those bees too long to address the problem. If honey is being stored in your home's framework, it seems to me that the potential for long term damage could be significant. I recommend you pull that one errant stone and see what happens. If there is no problem, then get some of that lime/mortar mix and fix the problem for good.

Sean, i had hornets and wasps. An old timer tole me to put a little boric acid in a jar lid mixed with a good amount of sugar to keep thewasp from detecting. Wasp hate it but love sugar. Boric acid will get on their legs and ther will wear it back to the nest. No more wasp

Wasps are an ongoing problem in my mid America garden. The exterior utility boxes and the part of the a.c. that's out is outside seem to attract them. I also found wasps attacking bees at the hole in the ground they were nesting in.

Hi Sean. Love following the work you are doing on the cottages. I wouldn’t worry about the plaster being smooth as I think it would look odd in that semi rustic environment. Glad to see the kitties in an enclosed environment outside and hope you don’t mind answering a question regarding the little grey kitten as I don’t see it, did it survive?

Sean, it is hard to believe there is anything you can't do well. As you mentioned. It is a boiling hot day and those cats don't have shade to get out of the sun. Please provide them with shade in this heat or you will end up with dead cats.
