30 paid vacation days? I'm moving there

20 days is mandatory when you work 5 days a week and 24 when you work 6 days a week, but 30 is the norm, I'd say. I've 30 aswell.

A while ago I had a job with 25+17 paid days of vacation. (25 were free to plan and you could carry over for 4 years or get paid out at the end of the year, and 17 were "ATV" days which you'd lose if not taken, could not be paid out, and were partly pre-planned by the company) When I was on vacation in the US, my American friends there had a really hard time actually understanding, and then believing, the concept of so many vacation days.

Also European food doesn’t have the preservatives like we have in the U.S., their food tastes so much better than American food. You can actually taste the lack of preservatives or you can taste the actual freshness of their bread ,food etc. Europeans have Americans beat on the quality of food.

As far as I know, the only U.S. institution that gives 30 days of paid vacation annually is the military. And any days you don't use by year's end, you can sell back and they add it to your paycheck.
@GM-tw4el
@GM-tw4el Ай бұрын
I live in Scotland, and I thought the 28 paid days we get was low compared to other countries in Europe, I think the Netherlands get like 40 days a year. We have what's called statutory holidays though, Xmas day, boxing day (26th December), New years day, 2nd January, easter Monday then like 4 bank holidays that vary depending on location. The rest of the days we choose on our own. So it's around 21 days we get to use off our own back, although alot of businesses will close down for 2 weeks on the last Friday before Xmas so your days go towards that, but weekends aren't counted. Some places will let pay you for unused days at the end of the year, some places will make you use your days before the end of the year, and some places will let you carry them over to the next year if you agree in advance. How many paid days are mandatory where you live?

Is 30 day vacation surprising to you people? How about 30 days vacation, 4 months fully paid maternity leave and up to 2 years reduced payment of maternity leave, and if you’re self employed you get maternity allowance in line with your salary in Austria🇦🇹? Austrian employers also pay 14 salaries a year by law. 2 extra for Christmas and for the Summer so that people can go on a long summer break and buy plenty of presents on Christmas. P.S. your employer is not allowed to contact you during your vacation or days off. That’s borderline unacceptable.

Mostly. Although I have to admit there are quite a lot of employees who don't respect the rights of employees, either illegally or using the "loopholes", but most do respect the rights. Just don't come as a software developer to France😅

@@RR-lj3ip oh man, software development is another ball game hey. I know Austrians who complain about how much they work and when they mention how much they work I think ‘That’s illegal isn’t it? 🤔’ it seems as though in that sector they kinda play in the dark grey area. Gosh, even the doctors who work hard in Austria take vacation because they don’t want to break the law. My doctor is a workaholic and she was gone for weeks and when she came back she said that she was almost over on her work hours and had to take a mandatory vacation.

I can't understand why most Americans hardly drink tea or use electric (or any) kettles to boil water.

"there are so many great bread options".... continues to show the cheapest factory produced kinds of bread/rolls, that are just a teeny tiny bit less disgusting than the bread that comes in plastic bags.

Their Toast Brot is worse than our regular bread. It’s thick Wonder bread without the preservatives , but drier and even more tasteless.
