I cannot explain it very well, but I am a very critical and logical thinker and I have studied all aspects of the LDS Church. The good the bad and the skeletons in the closet. And I have found it to be the most convincing religious Christian doctrine. I live it, and it makes a difference. I suppose that is all the evidence one needs in this world. That is the scientific method in practice.

Logical reasoning is tough for me, but I love to see when things work together so well under God where I can get it. I've always loved science and knowing God have come to realize God knows all the science that man has only begun to understand. The closer we get to God's knowledge the more we see God in everything. And that's just one small portion of tip of the iceberg.

Hey bro, thank you for this. There is so much negativity Satan is spreading via folks that I think sometimes, if we are not careful, we can forget the most important aspects of The Gospel Restored, the real daily miracles and spiritual experiences that He gives us to help us along amd help us share this with others, despite of the negative push. Wyatt, your story about determining to commit suicide and being told to pray really rang true. Mt brother, a Viet Nam vet and total alcoholic (now deceased) told an almost identical story (almost word for word) about his experience of pain and suffering to the point of taking his life. He told me this story right before his death. He said he was sitting at his kitchen table with a bottle of alcohol and a gun. He said what I guess was his version of a prayer “God, if you are really there, you have to let me know or it is all over”. He told me he was answered in no uncertain term that he was there and he (my brother) was a beloved child. He never had another drink of alcohol, joined AA, did a tremendous service to fellow vets, and was buried 28 years later with his 28 year chip from AA. Even though he never went to church, he felt connected to Heavenly Father and that he was in good standing. He did an incredible amount of service to his fellow vets.

It’s beautiful that the church has worked as a vessel for you to experience the power of Christ and resolve many doctrinal issues. Be careful that this video doesn’t sell “the church” over “the gospel” though, because they are two VERY different things. :) The gospel is true, so it’s necessarily logical. The church… not so much. Sometimes. But not always.

Belief that we're in a simulation is cloaked acceptance of a higher power/deity. The math checks out. I loved Wyatt's story. I'm pretty dang logic based/fact based myself but have room in my heart for faith based experiences. I had a profound experience at age 8 where I gained my testimony with a simple prayer asking if the Book of Mormon was true. I have had many profound experiences since, including a bit of a faith crisis for some time. I teach seminary now and would do anything for my class members to experience what I've felt - God's pure love and confirmation of truths.

Going along with the point about logic: *1. Personal revelation from God is the most rational basis for religious belief.* Nobody knows God better than God does. So if you want to know God, are you going to ask the pastor focused on paying for his new laptop, or are you going to ask God? People accuse us of taking leaders' word for it. But that is nonsense. We are encouraged to ask God for ourselves, specifically so we _don't_ have to take anyone's word for it. In fact, sectarians who tell you that you shouldn't ask God, but that you should just read the Bible, are the ones expecting you to take their word for it. Theirs is circular reasoning. Basically: "We are the true Christians because our interpretation of scripture is correct, and our interpretation of scripture is correct because it's based on true Christianity." They haven't received revelation from God. Most of them don't even _claim_ to. *2. Our view of salvation is the most rational.* Obedience and valiance happen in degrees, so salvation happens in degrees. Why make salvation binary, when obedience and valiance are not binary? Furthermore, why would God damn children when they haven't done anything wrong? He wouldn't. What about Sentinelese islanders who have no access to the Gospel? Would God punish people for being born in the wrong place and time? No. *3. It is not possible for true religion to exist without prophets.* Left to interpret scripture on their own, humans always interpret it wrong. Only someone who communicates with God in a real and literal sense has any real authority to tell you what God wants. *4. Our view of life after death is the most rational.* Through no fault of your own, you didn't get to learn the truth while you were mortal? God has you covered! You get to learn here, instead of going away into a nuclear blast furnace for eternity. *5. We have the most rational view of scripture.* The notion that the Bible is all the scripture that exists is, ironically, non-Biblical. The Old Testament, multiple times, references books of scripture that it doesn't even contain. Trinitarians also have "scripture" outside the Bible. Yes, I am talking about the Nicene Creed, Athanasian Creed, and others. Yes, I know that they will object to me calling it scripture, but regardless of the fact that they don't _call_ it scripture, the practical reality is that they _treat_ it like scripture. Calling it something different doesn't actually make it different. It's like how Catholics say that they don't _worship_ Mary, they just venerate her with songs, statues, prayers, and pious acts, and petition her to intercede on their behalf...even though that's literally just worship wrapped in different word packaging. *6. Our Church does not reject evolution and other scientific facts as a matter of doctrine. It does not treat science as though it were evil.* Any religion that has to reject reality to defend itself is basically admitting that it has no basis in reality.

Really appreciate your points. Kinda wish you were in my discussions group on Facebook. A few different religions against LDS members based on scripture study of the Bible. It's so difficult to work with them in their myopic standpoint. But, I have learned alot by studying out their questions. Not everyone has the sure foundation of Christ to withstand that barrage, but I enjoy the challenge most days. Learn so much looking for answers to questions I never thought of.

@@allieooop3923 In which part of my comment did I lump all of Christianity together? 1. God does not contradict Himself. He's not going to tell me one thing, and then tell you the opposite. The part in the video seemed to be more about life paths than truth. If they did refer to truth which I don't think they did, then they're wrong, because again, God doesn't contradict Himself. I fully acknowledge that people might _think_ they received a conflicting answer, but that doesn't mean they actually did. Definitely not from the same source. Personal revelation from God is the most rational basis for religious belief because without it, you're left with scripture and what other people tell you. That's not good enough. If God has all the answers and knows them perfectly, then He is the obvious choice for who to go to. When the perfect source of information wants to communicate with you, it is foolish to settle entirely for sources that are incredibly mediocre by comparison. 2. Fantastic. Now, is there a way for those islanders who died to increase their capacity after death and before judgement? Or are they just stuck at something lower than their full potential? 3. But how do you _know_ that the Holy Spirit guides the Catholic Church if the Holy Spirit never told you that? And if it did, keep in mind that you just tried delegitimizing such communication by asserting that two people can be told contrary things. By the logic you gave in point 1, someone who receives an "answer" to follow Satanism has no less authority than the Pope. Is that the path you want to go down? 4. Yes, but they still have to reach their full potential in some way, as opposed to simply going to heaven. What is that process for those who have died? If there is no full potential offered by God, then there really is no substantial purpose for us to even exist. What is the purpose of infant baptism given that infants are innocent and do not have any mental capacity yet to devote themselves to God? If baptism is _not_ about devotion and commitment, then what is it other than just a thing happening and someone getting wet? 5. It is perfectly reasonable to refer to the creeds as "scripture" because those who believe them, in terms of practical reality, treat them as though they are scripture, even if _they_ don't call it that. It's perfectly acceptable to use other sources, yes. Now ask Evangelicals if it's acceptable. My comment, after all, isn't just about Catholicism. But it's one thing to use other sources, and another thing to actually officially _have_ additional scripture that we're willing to call scripture. 6. Fantastic. You're at least a little more rational than websites like "Answers in Genesis," or other Bible literalists, or Young Earth Creationists.

@@jaykentucky6949 Ridiculous. The point is to ask God, because obviously if anyone knows the answer, it is God. I also said in my answer that, left to our own devices to decide what is true in terms of religion, humans always decide wrong. However, just relying on other people to tell you doesn't cut it either. So you know by asking the actual source. The Church is led by prophets who receive direct communication from God. But how do you know that? You ask God. Until you do, you do not know it. Your comment seems to be based on the assumption that those who ask God about the Church must necessarily come out with conclusions that certain doctrines are false. I strongly disagree. That, in turn, seems to be based on the assumption that no religion can be entirely true. I call nonsense to that. You're effectively saying that it's somehow illogical that a religion led by God would _not_ have any conflict with personal communication from God. If it comes from the same source, of course it's going to be confirming, _if and only if_ the religion is true. I'm not talking about confirming in the sense of confirmation bias. I'm talking about it in the sense of, to use an analogy, a DNA sample confirming a witness statement. If the Church makes claims, and God Himself confirms that they are true, that isn't illogical in any sense. We never say, for example, that because we shouldn't take the word of witness for it, that it's somehow illogical to trust the DNA sample if it happens to confirm that the witness is telling the truth. But you're basically saying that with the Church. And in case you're thinking that revelation from God just confirms what they already believe, I actually encourage my fellow Latter-day Saints to _avoid_ doing that. I encourage them to ask God _without_ expecting the answer to be a specific thing they want.

Thank you to all of you. Especially the guest. I can relate in the logical approach at first. Yet later I looked back and saw how the Spirit was so strong in primary even. Where I grew up. Looking back I see how God Sheppard me along. I've have for lack of a better term blasts of info in an instant. Or times I felt the lord's Love burn through the top of my head to my feet. Such a lovely and loving from Him experience. Many more way against law of average revelations a to where my Natural family was from. To make a story short told where my fifth Grand Father's home sight was 80 or so miles from where I grew up. DNA and as guest alluded to The universe are so finely tuned for us here. That logically there is a GOD. Even some scientists think this universe is a made matrix. Or created for some purpose for us... And Yes our faith makes the most sense. Original Apostles died out and authority which is important or Christ wouldn't have needed a John the Baptist. Christ set up a church in a curtain form. Early church voted in doctrine so some was lost.. Eternal marriage and eternal families make sense. Explains why we are here and how it's in the similitude of Heaven. Know long. But it's true. Others have parts can bring that with them. But God is the Head of this church. It had to be restored not continuing being reformed.

Anyone that says that the gospel is not logical doesn't really understand logic. The scientific method is used to prove scientific principles. When someone tries to use this to prove or disprove spiritual things it doesn't work. There is a spiritual method that has been set up to prove spiritual things. 1. Have a desire to know. 2. Seek, study 3. Ask Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ. 4.(This step can't be left out) Commit to act on the answer that you get. Alma 32:27 describes this principle perfectly and even uses the word experiment to describe the process. Very logical. The structure of my testimony is logic, the foundation of my testimony is spiritual, built from the many confirmations I get as I live the gospel. DG

10:34 "...if [the Book of Mormon] is [what it says it is], there's an answer for everything. If it's not, then we're just wasting our time." It doesn't take a worldview being true in order to have an "answer for everything". A worldview can be completely transformational to someone's life. It can give someone a completely different framework for how they view the cosmos and their place in it, how they view themselves within the world of people, even a nicely laid out manual for morality. But that has no bearing on the belief system's veracity. It can give you a sense of life satisfaction, cognitive relief from the labor of intellectual investigation, feelings of _certainty,_ and an existential purpose. It could even be completely _internally consistent_ (a claim I would personally disagree with) But again, this has no bearing on its veracity. As far as what I've come to understand about the read-and-pray method, it is not oriented towards revealing true propositions, but rather creating believers out of non-believers. When it comes to experiences: We all are gathering information about our surroundings, about the actions of others, witnessing events every day... and _interpreting_ those occurrences. We interpret them with a fallible brain and fallible senses that are, granted, usually reliable. However, acknowledging even the _presence_ of a cognitive deficiency like misremembering is enough to make us second guess a past event that we witnessed. No, not what we _remember,_ what we actually _witnessed._ Perhaps at some point, we have a dream where elements from a memory of a major formative past experience are used in the formation of the dream, but they're slightly distorted. But that slight distortion creates a narrative about the experience that is more consistent with our conclusions and interpretations about the experience. And that distorted recollection of events may even become more convincing to us as the actual state of affairs from the past than was our previous recollection which was actually more accurate. And we may even become emotional over it, waking up in tears because of some new meaning we believe we have discovered about that past experience, but which was based on a dream's distortion. So it's the fallibility of our brains, or rather an acknowledgement of it, that can cause us to have doubts about our past experiences. And personally, the fact that we can doubt our memory, along with other arguments, tells me at least that obtaining knowledge of any claim or proposition is in all likelihood not possible. So if the read and pray method results in someone believing they have gained knowledge of a proposition which the method claims to provide knowledge of, it has more than likely only created a dogmatist, or someone who holds their beliefs with unquestionable certainty.

How would someone determine whether their profound experience were received from an external source? How would they determine whether it were from a divine source? In the murder trial analogy, what evidence would you point to for god’s existence that might be admissible in court?
@cozy1717
@cozy1717 3 жыл бұрын
Short answer from me: he’s making the point that there’s a standard we have for being sure about something and if we apply that same standard to the gospel, he believes we too can be sure about it. Less short answer from me: I believe the point that he was making is that we can feel certain of or come to a conclusion something by looking at the logical evidences available to us. The example he used was that we can come to a sure knowledge that a crime has been committed by looking that the evidence and if we apply that same principle of following where the evidence leads onto the gospel we can come to our own conclusions. Granted that the gospel is spiritual in nature but that doesn’t mean that there isn’t nonspiritual evidence for the gospel. A great example is from Evidence Central which has videos from a logical standpoint concern various event as described in the Book of Mormon and the Bible. Also, to understand better the reasons why things in the church and gospel are the way they are, I’d advise watching a playlist from saints unscripted called “Faith and Beliefs”.

In the case of ol joe u could point to his story about nahom and bountiful. He specifically says the place was named nahom not that lehi named it that. Their is a probable nahom in the arabian desert and just due east and a little south a very probable bountiful. The trip between the two places when this connection was first discovered i believe in the 70s was that nothing existed between these two points. This is where they struggle to obtain food in the wilderness. You have the testimony of three witnesses their falling away and never once denying what they saw and what they testified. Thats two off the top of my head. This stuff always remain in the realm of faith its not until your built on the rock will you know with the certainty he described. Ive had similar spiritual experiences. God wants us to find him he does not reveal himself unless we seek him and when he does no one believes it anyway. Wyatt keep it up bro i have a brother who tried to keep one foot in the kingdom and one in the world. He lost his mind destroyed his family and now lives a very lonely existence full of haterd and bitterness. His demons are real. my family is all out of the faith. I served a mish and i was tired of being in all alone i dabbled. But i felt my mind unraveling i cant betray what i know not even for my family, i know what will happen my brother taught me that lesson. This stuff is real and when you see the light you see the darkness that defines it. Thats why its so important to keep your eye single. You cannot serve two masters.

You know I get offended all the time from people on this site but never threatened to report them for not believing in all aspects of mormonism. He really let a stranger bother him. I hate to see what he does with people he knows. I just feel bad for people that dont believe everything in the church and want to voice their views for help on this channel and you have someone like him attacking a member and assuming they ate an apostate for not believing what he does. That drives people away from the church.

The best word to describe this story is ‘beautiful’. What force could rescue a person from the very pit of destruction to the magic regions of authentic love for existence? Jung also knew that only a religious conversion can save someone from the hell of addiction (check his advice to his patient Roland H.). What is the world and all its logic, science, evidence compared to the force of salvation? "...yes, one ray of glory from the upper world, or one word from the mouth of the Savior, from the bosom of eternity, strikes it all into insignificance, and blots it forever from the mind...", J.S. I enjoyed your comments very honest truthful and a big help to anyone who's the ex LDS. I can understand why a lot of northwestern people drop out of the LDS Church because they never ever gained the testimony and didn't seem to be essentials to them since all the neighbors and and the people around them were LDS that no reason I was raised in the Bible Belt and one of these people was saying we don't believe in being saved by grace well he doesn't know what he's talking about of course my family goes back into 1700s of all I'm being baptist ministers and the missionaries come by my grandfather's house and he was going to straighten them out but the Book of Mormon straighten him out and the persecution was so bad and he was a doctor he had to move his family to Arizona to protect them and then the church called him back to Southern States mission to work with President Callis and he did that and went back out west and they called him back to be the district president in Kentucky and he didn't want to do that but my store burnt down his pharmacy he said it's time for me to go so I know about the strength of the Gospel and the help that you get from it and it's amazing me 74 my birthday but I'm still doing missionary work I'm baptized a lot of people in my own homeward and a lot while I was on a mission but that people are baptized they converted themselves by reading and praying but I have some interesting things that people in the Bible Belt needs to know number one being the fact that the lord gave the United States Constitution the United Nations and the Bill of Rights to chase Hiawatha Iroquois chief and the man who delivered it was called The Peacemaker and 1744 the Indian chief of the Iroquois nation was at a council meeting with Ben Franklin and Lancaster Pennsylvania and he told Franklin that the 13 colonies needed to be governed by the same government which they governed their own people which was called the confederation and the next thing you need to know is he walked the Americas which is on KZbin it tells the story about all the different native tribes that the recounts their visit of the Savior to their village and that's very important too because you cannot deny this stuff and the US Senate gave credit to the Native Americans in 1988 as the confederation being a guiding document for our constitution in the United Nations I appreciate your testimony most people on here are just floating in the wind they don't understand what the Gospel of Jesus Christ is they all want to argue documents scriptures debating scriptures doesn't help anybody live the Gospel of Jesus Christ that's what it's all about is learning to obey the commandments. One faith One Lord one baptism. Is serious business today it's a whole lot easier than I was during the time of Christ because in the scriptures it'll point you to the one Faith one Lord one baptism all you had to do is fill in the banks and see where your church rated ..Act 3 ,19-- 21. Call the officers the temples the high priest presiding in the temples Revelations 14:6 neverlasting gospel will come to the Earth. Corinthians 1529 baptism for the Dead spirits in prison will hear the gospel most people claim that Joseph Smith made all that stuff up if he had made this up he'd been like a little bunny rooster running all over the country advertisement as such

Sure knowledge that only the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints provides the path to exaltation cannot be sustained by logic alone. Questions raised to the church have logical answers. But, there is a reason the Holy Ghost is a member of the Godhead. Logic begets belief, but it takes the Holy Ghost to turn belief into a sure knowledge of truth. The Holy Ghost sustains our sure knowledge of truth until we no longer strive to keep all of God's commandments. The great motivator to keep the commandments is constant study of the Book of Mormon. That is why the Savior preserved the Book of Mormon for these last days. Hence, a person "falls away" because they no longer strive to keep all of the commandments and likely neglect the Book of Mormon, reducing their level of true happiness in this life and losing God's greatest reward after this life. It is evident from this video that Wyatt understands all of this.

@@DeconvertedMan Not the most important topic of this video I could discuss, but since you replied and I am perplexed how you watched it and did not catch onto the theme of the video… This is a video in a series of videos where people share their stories about their conversions. The video creators pick the catchiest part of their story to use for the title as it is a KZbin video and so that is how you design titles, short and attention grabbing. Also, it seems they use something that is somewhat unique or special about their story in the title. Sure there could have been a longer title with more summary of what is in the video, but that’s not generally how KZbin video titles work. That being said, here are a few excerpts where the guest talks about “how logic helped him.”  “From when I was 15 to when I was 18 and I tore the church apart as much as possible. So I’m a very logical thinker. So I looked at every bit of evidence that I could find. Every argument and everything. And ultimately as we all know the argument really comes down to this: is the Book of Mormon true? If it is, if its really what it says it is then there’s an answer for everything. If its not then we’re wasting our time, right?”  He had a spiritual experience, well above normal everyday experiences, which constitutes his personal “primary evidence” which logically, based on his personal evidence, he can not ignore. You may think because it is spiritual it is not logical, but it is a physical experience, much like we physical test other scientific things with eyes, hearing, the feeling of touch, and so forth.  “And from there I had enough information to keep going forward.”  “My faith has been tried and tried again with every concept. Just Smith said this, what about this, what about that, oh, what about this… I mean everything. I’m not one to shy away from it. I’m not one to be like: oh I’m just, everything’s gonna be answered one day it’s totally fine. I’m like absolutely not. We are taking this, we are dissecting this, we’re looking at it from every angle. And from that my faith has been strengthened relentlessly.”  “From that I’ve been able to refine my conversion even more.” And he talks about it some more, but the point is- he did discuss how logic helped him. The point of the video was not to discuss every logical concept or debate topics, or make arguments. The title suggests a main take away is that the guest discusses how logic helped him. Which is what he did.

It might help for you to think of it like those reading tests in elementary school where you read a short passage and then choose the multiple choice answer that best describes the point of the passage or the author's meaning, etc. Here's a syllogism for you he stated in other words: I studied many many issues and this church made the most sense to me. No other church I've considered made as much sense to me. Therefore, this church is the one for me.

Of course this is my opinion, his evidence was what he personally experienced during actual events in his life. I have often heard people talk about hearing or perceiving suddenly a voice giving them direction and what happened after they either obeyed the voice or considered the counsel from the voice. Sometimes, like myself, you are just given an experience at the right time that you will never forget or can deny and that's all there is to it. but sometimes a relationship means living you life with continued experiences (as I have also had) when it is a real person that you are living with. That's why I know that God is real. I don't know why some people don't get those kind of experiences. I only know what I have experienced, not just felt.
