Gallio (before whom Paul appeared, the proconsul who refused to consider the charges against Paul, dismissing the Jews from his presence) was the older brother of the famous Seneca, who had been tutor to the young Nero before he became emperor. Some years later, both brothers fell out of favor with the mercurial Nero and were encouraged to take the escape of poisoning themselves as an `honorable` death sentence.
