Thanks for your tips. I'm planning to learn Russian in the future. But as I am at the beginner level in Mandarin and lower intermediate level in French, I realize how useful your tips are. With my French I can get around french-speaking areas with little help. But yes, I still need to learn more Mandarin in order to get around Mandarin speaking areas comfortably.

You sounds motivated! Watch out with learning multiple languages at the same time though. It takes a lot of effort to pull that off correctly :)

你今天的普通話怎麼樣? Im curious really how people learn Mandarin as adults as I used to break my brain studying Mandarin in my Chinese school basic education and I'm stuck at highchool level Mandarin after graduating. Now I'm 300 hrs into Russian

Knowing enough French to get around without help is certainly a lot of French. The French are not very helpful in my experience lol

I recently found your videos. I love them so much because I learn a lot. I wrote 7 notes down: 1) aim for upper beginner level 2) aim for 1-2 hours of russian study 3) learn 1000-1500 words 4) get to know the russian cases 5) know how to conjugate verbs 6) spend a lot of time listening/watching correct russian 7) practice speaking russian aloud I am a new subscriber. I really love your videos. Please keep making videos, they help me a lot! Can you make a video on what to learn for upper beginner level? Or maybe a video on russian story practice for beginners?

That's a great summary! Once you indeed get to the upper beginner level, everything becomes easier after that. Those are some great video ideas, I'll put them on my list of videos ideas.

I agree i am the beginner B1-level of russian right now i would say. I feel like you do need a strong base to begin with when it comes to russian you need to learn such things as the in and out of the grammar; cases, verbal-aspects and what not. After you know how they work i feel like its just a matter of listening to alot of things in russian and trying to speak it as much as possible and you will pick it up subconsciously bit by bit after time it will become normal and natural for you.

Yeah the funny thing is that basically ALL the Russian grammar is in the beginning. After you know the cases and conjugation, you're pretty much done. There are some things left of course, but not knowing them doesn't hinder speaking.

I started a month ago to learn russian with the help of a few apps. Now I bought a really good russian grammar book written in my native language (Greek) because I tried to learn grammar in English but trying to translate russian to English and then to Greek it makes it difficult to remember it at the end.

That was a smart decision! Russian grammar can be tough, so a translated version will likely not be able to explain it well enough. Good luck!

I want to learn Russian as I love Dostoevsky and Tchaikovsky among countless things. I’m Irish and find it incredibly frustrating that the war broke out. I worry if I go to Russia that I would face difficulties given my countries support for Ukraine. However,

It’s great, but I wouldn’t recommend learning russian to read Dostoyevsky because it’s really hard to understand all those idioms and special words that only native slavs know. Better enjoy it in your own language and good luck with learning!

In that case, just download one of the free apps (duolingo, memrise etc), and follow that for a month. After that time you will know if you're interested enough to continue or not.

Kids take years / growing up on it slowly. They are only gifted with easy accents. Depends how hard you try.

That would be if you are talking about newborns, if you are talking about maybe a 10 year old, or a 13 year old, they would probably have more "motivation" to learn vocabulary quickly.@@dylan.-6527
