Thank you Canice, another beautifully filmed & edited vlog. Really hope you get the starter wiring issue sorted without too much of a headache.🍻

I know it's a pain for you to move two boats but i really enjoy watching you do it! All the best!

I guess I have been watching narrowboat channels for a while. Among all those, I recognized a boat from another channel. Some are memorable, well, like Jorja. That garden is amazing.

Great video. I can appreciate how much work goes into moving two boats. 8,5 hours on a beautiful day. In can’t imagine how long it takes when the weather is bad. Keep on on moving 👍🏻

In the winter I will do it over two days…. 😂😂😂

The voltage measured at the terminals doesn't say much about the capacity of the battery unless the reading is very low due to bad cells. Connect the multimeter to the starter terminal and see what you get while starting. Don't know what your starter requires but say it takes 40 Amps than Ohms law tells us how much resistance there is between the battery and starter connections, it takes only 1 ohm to loose 4 volts which definitely would make the starter struggle. On a side note: the Tories are fine with the water companies dumping raw sewage so why can't you ? 🤔😉

Good video Canice. That was a long day and must have been exhausting not just moving the boats but after mooring Jorja travelling back to Linda. As well as the locks. Love seeing what it looks like on the water around London. Hard to believe that everyone is as diligent as you in moving every 2 weeks by the looks of some of the boats. Hope Jorja gets her starter working smoothly. Have a good week and thank you. 😊🤗 Kathy

Well observed! There are loads of boat not moving. And some have not moved for years. I don’t mind what other people do but I like the moving and I also don’t want to deprive others of spots that I’ve been moored on….😀

As soon as Hackney Marshes appeared I was reminded of the music hall Gus Elen classic with the lines "Oh! it really is a wery pretty garden And Chingford to the Eastward could be seen Wiv a ladder and some glasses You could see to 'Ackney Marshes If it wasn't for the 'ouses in between"

It is amazing how much cultural history there is associated with Hackney Marshes. It’s such a nice place and wild as you’re going to get in the middle of London. I’ve just come off reading his biography on Wikipedia and he has a blue plaque on his house in Balham where he died! What a story!

See you are genius you didn't know it but you definitely a genius and you're looking ever so much like my grandad with those plasters on your glasses. It tickles my sense of humour no end.

You’re going to see a lot more of that because I now have a neoprene band holding my glasses to my face. Now that they don’t fall off!😂😂😂

The smoke from the engine of Linda is black, which indicates to rich fuel or bad injectors, because the engine is running smooth, just idling is irregular 🤔 I think the injectors, please have it sorted because it will ruin the engine with soot 😱 I love the videos with you traveling the London waterways, it is a tranquil and beautiful way of traveling 👍
@canicebannon6 ай бұрын
Hi Henk! That black smoke was because I had the cold start on.🙄 it runs for a few seconds and then it’s back to unburnt fuel coming out the exhaust. I’ve had the injectors tested and they were fine and I had the fuel pump rebuilt and it made no difference to the smoke. I may have glazed bores, coked up valves, worn rings etc. All require a rebuild….. Unless….. I steam clean the engine by spraying water into the intake!😱
@henkresink50736 ай бұрын
I hope it will clearup the smoke, the engine is really running great, these DAF engine are almost indestructible

What a waltz. I imagine going back to moving just one boat would seem easy by comparison.

The Yanmar is running fine. Don't worry about the small cables...they only take care of the relays clicking in...and that's the case...even when the starter motor cannot turn the Yanmar... For adequate starting, the starter battery should be at 12,7 Volt and connected with good copper cables and clean contacts. Two contacts on the battery and one contact (+) on the startermotor. Dont forget the earth connection.. it's the braided cable between Yanmar and the steel boat. My two cents: your battery is older than 5 years (2018?) and slowly dying. Have a nice time in Hackney.

I agree, I’m going to pull the big cables and see what’s going on there and replace if necessary. I did a big electrical make over a few years ago and successfully sorted out the gremlins in the charging system. I can do the same again. I did try it on a brand new battery and the outcome was the same. This week I will be asking for advice on plumbing in the calorifier into the engine….

I used a piece of string for the throttle on my motor bike, couldn't afford a new cable until payday back in the 70s, somethings don't change 😅

Ah, but I have the part to fix it and I’ve had the part for six months….😂😂😂😂

Looks like your starter needs replacing canice. It must be a pain moving two boats. Especially around London and the Lea. Good vlog. 🫵👍👍
@canicebannon6 ай бұрын
A new starter would be the easy solution! I hope so. I’ll have to check that the voltage drop is from it rather than the wires…. I don’t always do it back to back, but when I do it is tiring to move Linda second. Jorja is much easier to move second as it’s like auto pilot by comparison….😂😂😂

Hey Cannis, are there many other barges that have masts? Whenever you’re moving around I don’t feel like I see very many. If one has a mast does that mean they (at least in a previous life) spent more time making runs in open water?
@canicebannon6 ай бұрын
I’m the only one that is not on a permanent mooring that moves around and raises the mast at the end of the move. However, there are one or two that that move around but their mast is always down. However there are a few of n the canal in Hackney Wick that are on permanent moorings and have masts and do go out into the Thames Estuary, for a bit of sailing.

Could it be when Jorja is started she still is a little bit in gear? I have a motor grundel that has that problem. I really have to feel the propeller shaft to feel if its in gear before i start otherwise i hasn't got enough power to push through
@canicebannon6 ай бұрын
I will have to do a deep dive. The power is not getting to the starter…. I may be the starter itself.
