We did not have fancy oil priming tools but most of us have a distributor with the gear ground off and drill bit welded to the top. I remember making mine in 1985 :)

Oh and pack you oil pump better that took too long.
@freedomworx Жыл бұрын
No need to pack the pump. That pump picks up oil just fine every time the engine starts with nothing but wet gears.

@@freedomworx But the first time is the worst time to be dry. The fact he is priming the engine show that. If you do not need to pack the pump then why prime? Packing protects the pump vanes during break in. The fact the engine primes quicker is a side effect not the reason for doing it.

@@famcadjr That’s completely false. Anything you pack in that pump gets swept away in seconds. Oil pumps don’t break in…bearings don’t break in… the only thing that’s breaking in is Flat Tappet Cams and lifters, and piston rings and cylinder bores. 🤷🏻♂️

Today, I witnessed the answer to the age old question of how to use a funnel correctly. Your wizardry is sheer genius. This level of hacksmithery has indeed changed my life for the better.

Funnelry is a mysterious art 😎

Holy smokes, a nicad drill in 2023, you used it for 1 minute and had to change out 3 batteries, you're doing some good deadpan brother cause i cant tell if this is a joke or not.

There is a lot of time cut out of the film, and the batteries weren’t even fully charged. I assembled the engine with a dry pump, filter, and lifters, to see how long it could take. Obviously shouldn’t take this long, but it could.

Cheap Amazon prime tool plus a drill from 1999= an absolute waste of your time! Better tools=better results.

It's got nothing the do with the tool. The lifters were dry. How much money do you owe the Snap-on Tool truck driver???

Using an old distributor to make a primer is best because those primers you are using doesn’t seal the oil where the distributor goes. Your losing all your pressure & volume.

Using an old distributor is great if you have an old one laying around. But this primer does seal the cam bore just like the distributor does.

I should’ve went back & looked at your primer before I commented, my bad. I do always put my manual gauge in to see what my pressure is. Thanks for your videos, I enjoyed watching them.

I commented on your short video and would add here nowadays we used a penumatic oil primer. Made one out of an small cylinder with valves hose pressure gauge etc. Should look into it

I’ve got an LS that’ll need priming, so I plan to make one for it 👍

My grandpa always told me, if you want to break her in right, drink a few beers first.

Break-in and initial fire up are a little different. The only thing that breaks in are rings, the bore, and cam if it is Flat Tappet. Bearings, But yes, break-in is all about putting load on the rings!
