Love the advice man, ran 2:39 last month at Dallas off of about 4 months of training and really surprised myself, my goal is sub 2:30 for Boston 2025 and I think with your advice I can get to that! Cheers!

Outstanding performance Alex. 2:39 is no joke. VERY well done and yes, you definitely have the potential to break the 2:30 marathon barrier. Keep me updated.

I am thanking you for your suggestions regarding easy days 😊 One thing I have learned so far is that it is easy to run hard and hard to run easy - the easy runs calls for patience and discipline. And the body thanks me for those easy runs. Also following your advice about staying relaxed during hard runs. Felt great this morning after my 12 x 400 workout. Thanks much for a half marathon program that definitely makes sense. Blessings, brother🙏🏾

@riccouchman5604 Making a competition out of easy days makes them easier. I'm always competing with myself to see just how *low* I can get my average HR over a 10 mile cross country trail. Two days ago I got it down to 116 average BPM. I hit a low of 99 and a max of 144 (joged up the very last short but steep hill) I have a LOT of hills (almost nothing is level) so I'm limited to just how low I can get it but it takes 2.5 hrs so that's a good long easy endurance builder. Sometimes I do it twice for 20 miles . . .

These tips are just spot on! I’m a bit different. I started running this year at the age of 31 years old. I did sports in high school but nothing with cross country or track. I’ve been strength training for 5 days a week for the past 15 months and running 5-6 days a week since February consistently. Shooting for a 22:00 5K this upcoming Wednesday. I’ve seen massive progression as I take my running VERY seriously. I don’t do it passively for cardio. I’m at 40 MPW currently looking to progress to 60 MPW before my marathon debut in January 2024. Keep up the great work, RDA!

Started running in 2021 and did my first marathon in the beginning of 2022. Have run 7 and the last 5 being under 2:40. The range of 239 slowest sub 2:40 to my current fastest right now a 2:35 in a tough SF marathon course. Gives me more peace to hear you mention how long it can actually take to run sub 2:30. I tend to want to hit goals sooner than what it might actually take me to. I'm a bit of an overtrainer. I'm currently 30 years old
@calebbendewald56198 ай бұрын
I often do some form of workouts @5:43 mile pace or faster throughout the week and go into my weekend long run workouts with 70-80 miles for the week already to learn and run that pace on tired legs while building strength. I probably need to do 2 or even 3 days in a row of true easy running rather than doing a moderate to hard run workouts every other day. I consistently run 100-120 miles a week along with working 40 hours a week.
@rundreamachieve8 ай бұрын
You are definitely at the elite level Caleb. VERY FEW runners can run as fast of time a time as you have and congrats on having dropped that 2:35 on such a hard course. Imagine what you can do on a Berlin or Valencia-type course. Keep up the superior training and racing. I definitely see you breaking the sub 2:20 barrier in neat future. If I can do it, so can you! You are doing very similar types of runs and workouts as I was doing to run 2:19. Keep me updated.

I know this is an old vlog but glad I found it. Its been a long time goal to run sub 2:30. I was able to whip myself into about 2:35ish shape back in early 2020 for Boston then came COVID. Since then its been an emotional rollercoaster from not having any races, limited amount of time outdoors to run and getting back to the norm. My first race back was Chicago 2021. Didn't go so well hit a pothole at about 10 miles twisted my ankle and struggled. Dropped out at about 30km. At that time it was a mental struggle trying to come back. Not being able to run long enough still do to Covid restrictions etc (my ankle healed about 2 weeks after Chicago. Wasn't too bad). Fast forward a bit more I had a chance to run Berlin in 2022. I train in very hot and humid conditions and again struggled. Physically and mentally. 1) Because I did all my runs indoors at the start of my build and 2.) I wasn't running nowhere near enough mileage. Only was on about 20-40 miles a week for the about first 10 weeks. Finally I built of the drive to give it a shot. The longer runs got longer a bit but only managed 2 x 20 milers. I did try to hammer the track to make up. Did a few mid ranger Long runs. Long story short I averaged about 72ish miles a week for specific period (10 weeks roughly). Berlin came and I ran a PR of 2:45. PR before this was 2:51. Felt strong up until 40km but the lack of long runs started to show. I'm more have a strength runner. Long HARD runs. Track I can get away with with about only 4 weeks needed. But I hammer my long runs. Headed to Berlin again this year (2023) and just started my 3rd week. Far ahead than last year and have more motivation that's for sure. I'm also 41 years old. Cheers man. Keep the vlogs going. I subscribed. PS. Started running in 2016 from scratch. 3:08 Marathon. NYC I learnt after 2018 Hammering the Long Runs for me brought on great results. Started chopping off mins at a time then.

Sub 2:30 is my next goal, like most in the comments. For me It feels doable for about 15 miles and then the heart rate starts to spike. I can't get out of my 55-60 mpw rut. I have massive respect for runners that can hit 100 mpw.

Thanks for the video. I just did 2:37 in St George this last weekend. As of now, the most important factor for me is consistency. My max week volume so far has been 145km (for my 2022 Boston Marathon Block). My peak week for this St George block was 119k (was struggling with some foot aches therefore I could not increase mileage). I am relatively new to running (started during Covid), and I believe that for me now, by just keeping up with mileage week after week, month after month, I can keep improving, and hopefully get close to sub 2:30. As of now, I have been able to shave 1 minute a month (2:55 [June 2021] - 2:48 [Dec 2021] - 2:45 [Jan 2022] - 2:45 [March 2022 (very hot and humid race)] - 2:43 [April 2022] - 2:37 [October 2022]. Agree, that after a certain limit, you need to increase the high mileage weeks to 100mi or more. I guess at that point I will have to start doing double workouts.

Thanks Nate. When you ran these mixed tempo longruns, how much time did you take in between fast tempo miles and the rest of your run and/or efforts? Did you jog in between? Did you let your heart rate settle? And how important do you think in general it is to 'rest' in between efforts?

So this might sound ridiculous. I just ran my first half marathon at 40 years of age with a time of 1:45. Nothing great. But I felt great in training and felt like I can train much harder. Would you think it's possible with 6 months training (want to run Paris or one of the Germany marathons in Spring 2024) to run 2:30-2:45?
@rundreamachieve Жыл бұрын
I never place limits on athletes as I never placed them on myself. Nice work dropping that 1:45. Running a marathon in 2:30-2:45 in 6 months is going to be one of the hardest things you are ever going to do. Only you can determine if you'll achieve it or not. Good luck out there and keep me posted. You're on your way.

I wouldn't. Remember, there will always be other races. Take 2 weeks complete off. Start back up. You may have to re-schedule your race plans but it just isn't worth it to turn an ache into a serious injury that will keep you out longer. Hope that helps
