Күн бұрын

When the gut microbiome is in a state of harmony, teeming with diversity and richness, it supports our immune system, aids digestion, and even influences our mental well-being. However, even the healthiest individuals with robust microbiomes can face disruptions, especially when faced with an infection that requires antibiotic treatment.
In Ep. 271, Dr. Will Bulsiewicz walks us through how the body responds when prescribed a course of antibiotics. From reducing diversity and richness to entering into dysbiosis, Dr. B explains the serious consequences when our gut bugs are out of whack.
But it's not all doom and gloom. Dr. B explains that, for most people, the gut eventually recovers its pre-antibiotic state after the medication is completed. But how long? Well, it's not as simple as it sounds. Tune in to find out some valuable information.

I was on immunotherapy for my breast cancer and had to take antibiotics for a UTI. Entered a state of dysbiosis, and the immunotherapy caused my body to go into overdrive, attacking my pituitary and adrenal functions. Dysbiosis is no joke. I'm desperately trying to restore the gut as soon as I can to heal the brain/adrenals.

My wife had several courses of anti biotics whcih resulted in loss of microbiome which was demonstrated by doing a "fecal count", after this we weere able to decide just what microbes were missing and use PROBIOTICS to help balance the microbiome count. Working so far but has taken many, many, months.

Make your own antibiotic. Oregano oil supplements. Make it yourself if you don’t trust the supplements. Olive oil then oregano in a bottle leave for weeks and use at a later date. I would never take antibiotics again now I would only do this after my research. I have autoimmune problems. I was on two types of antibiotics for nearly 2 months. I’m really so lost and don’t know where to turn. My newborn daughter had to be put on antibiotics daily for kidney reflux disease. She was on them every day until that went away when she was 4 years old. I don’t know why it happened this way, but when she came off the antibiotics she started gaining weight. The doctor told me she’d grow and it would be fine. But she kept gaining and gaining. I did my own research and found that her gut flora was likely destroyed by the antibiotics. The doctors looked at me like I was crazy or said that wouldn’t be the cause of her weight gain. As she got older, one day she asked me what I meant by feeling full. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. To this day, she doesn’t feel full. She’s 15 and I just want to help her. I try feeding her brown cow yogurt with live cultures, but other than that I don’t know what to do. If anyone knows, could you please comment? 🥺

Find a proper expert clinic that specialises in gastroenterology and gut health practice. They will probably start with number of medical tests to understand the current state of health and then propose fixing what is wrong. Considering the history of antibiotics use, there might be many things that need to be resolved before she gets to full health. Not feeling full is related to not digesting properly, the food might just go in and out without proper nutrient absorption. The weight may be an issue due to lacking proper microbes, or issue with metabolism, chronic inflammation etc. Just find proper specialised clinic and start working with them to get her gut health right, rest of the body’s health will follow as soon as the gut starts working properly. Probiotic foods may be too little too slow to significantly change her health. Don't underestimate the seriousness of medical support here.

Big big big connections here for me. I regularly struggle with UTI issues and earlier this year it led to a double kidney infection. Was put on antibiotics which killed the infection but has left me rebuilding my biome with kimchi, kraut, yogurt, and other fermentation foods. Sadly I ended up with another infection after visiting a hot springs recently and now must take another round of antibiotics. Tis a journey and have learned so much thru- i have hope this will be my last round of infections for a few years at least.

Ideally give your stomach 4 hours to digest whatever is in there (in your case doxycycline) before having any probiotics. Try to only be on probiotics 2-3 months a year, too much gut flora can really mess you up. Instead eat foods rich in prebiotics (berries, banana, kiwi, fiber rich veggies) and also probiotics (kimchi, sauerkraut etc).

She may be getting an antibiotic she is allergic to. Everyone acts differently on antibiotics. Read all u can about that specific one and dosage. Often the dose is actually too low and limited to less than ten days. If not allergic to penicillin, those are safer to take in higher doses. Doctors now usually limit to smaller dosage in a short time, which doesn't destroy the infection. If the doctor doesn't give her what she needs, change doctors. Her health is everything. Read comments on line, ppl give more information than the doctors do. Good luck.

You do damage and the brain doesnt want to fix it. You know its going to happen, but you then are at war with your brain for a remedy. I have bipolar, which i guess made things more difficult. I had a elbow injury 3 months before covid, so i hadnt been lifting in that period, which made it all worse. Been like 8 months since my elbow injury and my stool is nearly back to normal, good habits reformed. Still getting some of those bad habits under control has been difficult, cause some are enjoyable, even though you know you shouldnt.

I took antibiotics about every 2-3 years for UTIs or other random infections like tooth infections but mostly UTIs. All the times I took them I was fine and recovered relatively quickly but i was young and not eating well, drinking alcohol, and not eating fiber etc. I had really bad acid reflux so I was on PPIs and antacids for many years. I got a stomach infection one day which led to significant changes in my body and health but I still felt somewhat healthy. One year after that I took my last dose of antibiotics for a UTI and 💥 all hell broke loose. I have been suffering with so many symptoms since. I believe I set myself up for this by eating shitty, taking PPIs and tums everyday, living an unhealthy lifestyle. Now I’m struggling just to have a conversation with someone and my body pains are significant.

I have been thinking about it the way you asked the question. Is it diminishing or eradicating them? was mine. I had asked docs, natural path providers and they never know. Who really knows. This doctor although very famous I wonder in reality how many people does he treat a day since he became so rich and famous? Many of these people when they become famous end up hiring a lot of people open a business and they don’t get to treat people anymore because they are too busy doing interviews and they also get to charge astronomical prices out of the reach of regular people who need the help. I was talking to one about 6 months ago and it’s like a high pressure sale type business where he was saying that I should take up a loan to pay for it. I had to pay upfront and I couldn’t make payments. It was so much money I was flabbergasted with the amount.
