I obviously have some length but I didn’t notice until my driver was spec’d correctly. Two years ago I played a 44” Titleist 917 which I had a graphite design GP x shaft in it (ya, I just wanted a graphite design shaft) and distance was 275-290. Last year I tried a Mizuno st180 with a pro force V2 X and that felt ok, dispersion lessened but I could get it out there 290-305. Now I have a ping g400 LST at 44.625” with a $120 Aldila green tipped 1”. It’s tighter dispersion and longer than any driver I’ve ever had. The added head weight really helped me. Keep searching, if you find it, you know!
@seanmclaughlin74154 жыл бұрын
@@marinmb44 What do you mean by "tipped 1"?" Is that included in the 44.625? Did you try to hit the Callaway Maverick, or any of the other drivers? Or did you go straight for the G400? If you did try other drivers, what one felt like it had the most pop? Thanks!
@marinmb444 жыл бұрын
Sean McLaughlin , tipped 1” means an inch of the shaft is taken off the tip end before installed in the adaptor. 44.625” is the final playing length. The most pop is kind of impossible to discern.. I hit the same driver with two different shafts differently. Try everything and see what you like. For me getting the standard club specs like length, grip size (Oversize), driver loft, lie angle in a ballpark estimate started making finding a driver much easier. I bomb the ping though so I really don’t have to look anymore, like finding my wife.. haha. Cheers!

Years of not hitting driver very well I also tried the 3 wood shaft trick and it helped me so much to build confidence and had me hitting fairways! Year or two later I’m back in a standard length and still hitting fairways.!

One of the better videos from anyone I’ve seen in a while. I played from 44 to now 45.5 and there isnt any difference over a season other than once in a while you square one up and it goes extra 10 yards. However, on my 3 and 5 woods I went half inch shorter from Titleist standard and it made the biggest difference. Found it so much easier hitting it off the turf no longer scared pulling it out from 230 out.

We are basically clones - I went to a 6.5 HRZDUS Black at 44" on my M2 to build a gamer/10yard cut driver when I didn't have a repeatable swing. Worked on my game a lot/ got the club squared early on the downswing, changed to Mark's 10-finger grip with Medium +4 Align Grips and now back to 45.25" with a 6.0 HZRDUS Smoke in a Callaway XR16. I took 1/2" off my Callaway subzero 13.5degree 3wood (playing @14.5 weight forward) and also 1/2" off my Subzero Rogue 18degree 5wood - they are both so much better off the turf (233 carry with the 3wood & 220 with the 5wood - both off the deck - teed up I can get the 3wood to a 240-242 carry if I need it). I also did this with a Taylormade Gapr High #4 where I play it at 39.25" with a heavier than stock shaft - the SteelFiber i110CW in an X-Flex (has become my goto favourite club for anything in the 195 to 210 range - draw or fade - and is a great tee club for shorter Par4s

Video hit the nail on the head for me. 3 years ago fitted for a std. length Callaway Rogue driver. Hit it for a month and took it back telling the fitter I wasn't hitting it any longer than my old Taylor Made. I had him add an inch and a half longer extension to the original shaft. Instantly hitting it 20 yards past my buddy, who always hit same distance as me. 3 yrs. later and as long on mishits as him, still about 20 yards plus longer than him on most. Always been a straight hitter, longer shaft didn't change anything on dispersion. 5 feet 7 inches tall. May just have got lucky, but it has really worked for me.

As a high (23) handicap senior, I have just changed to a 1 inch shorter driver shaft. However,it is an X flex, (from a reg) which feels heavier so I can swing harder at the ball, with mostly centre strikes. The effect is to give me 5 yards extra and keeps me out of the trees on the right. 48 incher

6'0" playing PING G 44.5". As a seasoned older player, don't have strength to hack it out as you young studs do. So staying on or near the fairway is my top priority. Have read a lot of analysis by folks like Ralph Maltby and Tom Wishon and shorter is definitely better for those of us who simply don't have hours of time to devote to developing our games. Great video Mark always enjoy your perspective.

I find with the longer driver I spend less time in the rough, because I've missed my fairway altogether, and am now on someone else's. Seriously though, I suspect with a little shaft balancing (and lighter), it has serious potential. Could we adjust to the new Bryson Crossfield, and could Mathew cope with being an "also ran" in the long drive stakes?

I am 6'4" used to run a 2" extension on my driver. Went back to "standard length" which in my case with limited ability to rotate helped with consistency. At 61 years old, with a bad back, knees and shoulder from a good life, I will trade consistency for length. Realistically I am a 198 carry with 228 roll out using an older Callaway Razr.

6’1”. I have played a 48 inch driver shaft for years now. There are several options out there (Paderson, House of Forged Maximus, Fujikura Flywire, etc.). Carry two drivers in the bag - 48 inch shaft and 46 standard length. Take the 48 inch out when I feel like pounding it out there. I don’t notice much of a difference as far as shot dispersion. If I hit the Long Drive shaft flush it goes 20 to 30 yards further. X Flex in the 48. Adds a little fun to the game. That’s what it is all about.

Not only did my average driving distance increase, but my accuracy increased as well. It takes a couple sessions to get used to the length and weighting, but after a few rounds, I no longer noticed the difference. Irregardless of my increased accuracy, it’s the potential distance gains on each tee shot that I CANNOT and WILL NOT give up! I plan to continue using my current 46.50" shaft and will test a 47” shaft as well, as I hit bombs in the '22 golf season!

5'9". I built a 48" using a Cobra F7 with all of the weights removed. I had to go a flex softer because the head was light and didn't flex the shaft enough with the normal flex. But if you keep the same head weight, you might have to go up a flex, as you said Srixon did. I gained 10-15 yards. Everything was a fade. Eventually I got to where I was trying to hit it hard and then it became duck hooks. So it got retired. I keep intending to try again.

I started playing with the very long Cobra Long Tom several years ago, in response to losing distance off the tee, as I entered my late 40s. I jumped on a Trackman with a fitter and tried PING, Taylormade et al standard drivers with virtually I identical 250 yard drives, give or take, when the fitter asked me to try the Long Tom almost as a bit of a joke. I instantly picked up 25 yards and several mph of speed. Oddly enough, despite misgivings, I quickly managed to become quite accurate with it, after a bit of practice. I’m a single digit handicap and was always quite accurate. Finding the sweet spot hasn’t really been a problem for me. People have too many preconceived notions about golf. Happy to see DeChambeau smashing through those. There’s no reason why it should be such an issue to find the right timing with the longer shaft and, if you ask me, it’s a simple solution to finding distance, especially with the giant forgiving heads we use today. In a world where most amateurs are hitting 230 yard drives, I’m ripping them 275 to 290. I’m an eighth below 6’ btw and a 4 handicap.

You can easily add more distance, but you must change your stance a bit also. Open up your stance slightly, place the ball two inches further away and an inch forward (closer to the left toe line), to take advantage of the extra length and allow the longer shaft to reflex through impact.

6’2” and 44inch driver. I find it suits me better. Only lost 3 yards on track man over 46 due to strike but better dispersions.

6ft 8 and a standard driver always wanted the 48 but I have such wild shots with standard was worried it would become worse with the longer shaft

Love the video, I'd 100% have a crack even if it only gave me 1 better drive in a whole round of 18. As golfers shouldn't we always be striving for greatness!😁👍

“48 incher” 5’ 8” tall I am and use standard length. Interesting video this mark. Yes i want you to work harder and do a full round with this driver. I can have quite wild rounds with my driver sometime and would be petrified using a longer one. Great stuff though keep it up.

I'm 5' 6.5" , had the shaft shortened to 44.25" . So much easier to control than standard 45.5 .

Hi Mark were you using your new power swing on this test

I was really looking forward to Marks change from start of season bag to new bag, driver switch etc. The Covid stuff best bolt or srixon best sponsor for another season

"48 incher" 6'1" standard length. Does taking a deep breath before taking club away not tense up your core?

Tried a driver shaft 2" longer. Greater club head speed but strike compromised too much. So a net loss! 48" Mitubishi Bassara for sale!!

48 incher 6'1" - 45" driver. Considering shortening it to 44.5", or even 44". Current driver (z565) "sometimes" feels a little heavy. Maybe the reduced swingweight will help.

If you feel COG moved to the heel get srixon to send you a lighter weight to put in heel or heavier to put in toe to move it back.
