You must practice from the moment you are born. No excuses! Great video as always Akira 😊

Summary: Practice whatever piece you are assigned with the final goal of performing it without any hiccups. Have a fixed time slot by default. However, you will make gradual progress each day, so you won't need to practice as much as the day before. So ultimately, there’s no fixed duration for practice. There is no need to practice 10 times if 5 times is enough. Use the remainder of your predefined practice session for something other than your homework / assigned stuff.

As an old beginner when I had no teacher I would practise for two to four hours a day, but I was breaking every rule you've made videos about. After two years I got a great teacher and then my sessions were as long as I could maintain quality focus. 40 minutes for years, now more than two hours, but in three sessions.

I have been rushing through my first Adult Piano adventures pieces without playing them with metronome and without playing completely with flow. So this is a great lesson and reminder for me to pay attention to. I need discipline and be goal oriented. thank you.

A good teacher should be able to help you set the right goal in both short- and long-terms, and show you how to achieve them. They'll make your piano journey far more efficient.

@@AkiraIkegamiChannel thank you, though I am not in position to afford any teacher, so I am doing it by myself. Plz make some videos teaching about organization, being organized, about time, setting small goals. I think doing the most important thing first during the routine helps, since I am having a serious procrastination problem where I am not able to set and achieve goals and organize my time. Your messages will have general life application for many. God bless you.

I heard the other day that Yunchan Lim practises 14 hours a day. That’s an inspiration for me. When I was young and studied at the Conservatory (not piano), there was a popular saying that the amount of hours a student must practice equals the grade he or she is. So if you are a 7th grade student you must practice 7 hours a day.

I want to play too many things at once because I quickly get bored. So I practice 2-3 hours easily. But that's also revisiting old pieces and also having fun playing with flowkey

What if you divide that 2-3 hours into a mandatory section and a free section? That way, you can cover what you need, and also have time to enjoy what you want to play. 2-3 hours of practice can get you really far if you use it well!

What do you do with advance students? What books do you use with them?

It really depends, as advanced students have almost infinite choice of repertoire.

I started piano as my new years resolution. I started my 1st month playing as much as I was comfortable with. I clocked 38 hours my 1st month. I do the same as my last month plus two hours. 38, 40, 42, 44. I am now at 46 hour minimum for the month, and I am working with a piano teacher.

Hi, Akira. I noticed that you have a Steinway piano (or two) that look like a refurbished old Steinway. Could you tell me what year and what model the piano is? By the way, your content is supurb and thank you for sharing these piano learning tips.

Thank you. They are Steinway M and Yamaha G2. I can't remember the year off my head, but they are indeed both salvaged and rebuilt. That was the only way (and still is) I could ever afford a Steinway piano :)

@@AkiraIkegamiChannel Awesome - just checked your schedule and you are booked out a bit and I want weekly lessons. Do you have a waitlist? Thanks

Evening hours are filled with my physical studio students. The booking system should show morning and early afternoon available hours. If you don't see those hours, you may be looking at the time I'll be traveling. I can still do regular lessons while I'm traveling, but due to time zone and other complication, I'm disabling online booking for that period. If you are looking to schedule regular evening hours, I can put you on my waiting list. Either way, if you'd like to discuss scheduling in details, please email me at akira@pianowithakira.com Thank you.

Now what about if there is a trill in piece. Now with experience i know u cant get that speed in trills that u require in a day... Or even month... U needs months or even year or years of regular practice to achieve that speed. I have been learning keyboard for at least 6-7 months ..but still cant do it even at satisfactory level. Though u can say I dint give it much time always but still I try practice it occasionally. I cant just practice trills all the time u c. 😀 But then its useless to play a song that requires instruments like banjo or santor or sitar on my keyboard even though if I can play all the basic notes of a song. Without that basic touch it wont sound like banjo or santoor u c. 😀 And I dont think u can do 4 hours of just trill or even it'll produce some results if u do so. No? 😀
