For quick adjustment, I like the tonality (Compressor) and uniformity (dynamic) in the audio inspector. Sorry for bad english.

Thank you!!! Everyone always says audio is half your video but nobody has made it so easy to understand. 🎉🎉🎉
@dylanjohndickerson9 күн бұрын
Yep yep! Some say audio is more important than the video. If you have a low quality video that has great audio, your viewer is more likely to watch longer than a high quality looking video with bad audio. Not sure where I heard that, but I believe it.

@@dylanjohndickerson Always! Not related to this video but have you been using mCaptions? I'm having some some really annoying issues with it 🤯
@JasonParkerMagic8 күн бұрын
Also... does following all the steps in this video take care of adjusting the overall volume level which you upload to KZbin? Or after applying these... you still need to go back and adjust the overall global volume level to be loud enough for KZbin?
@dylanjohndickerson8 күн бұрын
Yes it takes care of everything

Wow very nice video! What do you think about using techniques (like you did with music at the end) to isolate and remove certain annoying frequencies from the voice track? I've seen videos of YTers teaching this, but not sure if it's really a great idea.... like kinda sweeping / scanning for annoying frequencies and cutting those out. Or is this just going down some rabbit hole that's not worth it?
@dylanjohndickerson8 күн бұрын

Good fast overview for typical audio work. I'm curious why you use FCP Limiter vs Logic Limiter?

One thing I've noticed is that the wave form in the time line doesn't always match the levels you see in the meters. Eg: I drop some compression on a voice over and in the time line it's in the red, but in the meters, it's ok. *_The timeline lies._* I usually run my music much higher than -25dB, but I do motorcycle travel videos. I'll duck it several dB when I'm talking but even so, it's generally no lower than -18dB. Some music (especially w/o drums or maybe bass) I'll run much hotter or during a quieter section. I have some audio engineering background, so the compressor was something I understood, but the way they did the limiter has always bothered me. But your explanation of it was the light bulb I needed. Btw, voice isolation is essential to reduce the wind noise for motovlogging. Don't put your mic right in front of your mouth. You'll be more likely to get plosives that way. Put it about 45 degrees off axis, but pointed at your mouth. That will help minimize those nasty P's, T's, B's, etc.

Cracker jack mate!! Mono or Stereo for voice overs?
@dylanjohndickerson9 күн бұрын
I usually prefer mono, but so long as the stereo sound sounds 'straight on' and your voice isn't louder on one channel compared to the other, then that works too.

Do you have Course for fcp
@dylanjohndickerson4 күн бұрын
Not at the moment, but Dylan Bates and I will be creating one in 2025 😊 I do have a color grading course for FCP as well as those who have the plugin Color Finale though www.fcpcolorgradingmasterclass.com

I typically just use the 'Loudness' feature built-into FCPX
@judsonbertoch79289 күн бұрын
Would you ever consider doing a course on this? 2 distinctive voices, environment (wind/rain/birds/etc), real human SFX (footsteps, breathing, etc), impact six (whooshes and the like, and music). Maybe I'm in the minority but I learn best with a course that's one central repository and step by step process & order.

@Gentlemans_sport9 күн бұрын
so the main outcome of this video is to keep voice around -6dB and music around -25dB, am I right?
@dylanjohndickerson9 күн бұрын
Use the compressor and limiter to keep your voice audio around that -6 to -3 range. And have your music audio be anywhere from -21 or -25 to -35 dB depending on the song intensity and how much you want the song to be heard in the background. Also used channel EQ to shape your music so your voice fits better in the mix.
