Beautiful music, beautifully performed. I suspect Mendelssohn would have been in tears had he seen this.

This is just a superb performance, aside from the digitized instruments and what I thought I heard as a completely gratuitous cymbal crash at one point. Culturally, several thoughts come to mind. I have been to many choral workshops run by black directors who strive for white choirs to attain an authentic black sound. And I have sung in many choirs whose directors OUGHT to have attended those same workshops. Of course we are now told that it is "cultural appropriation" for white choirs to sing African-American music. On the flip side, this choir seems to have no problem getting down pat all the "white" musical niceties. Of course, these people should not even be singing this piece, which is the product of a white, racist, colonialist oppressive culture (so we are told nowadays by the woke establishment). In the terribly divided times we live in I found this performance very moving, and a testament to the unifying power of music to bridge cultural divides.
