Here is a quick demo of a new Dingwall D-Roc Standard 4 that was custom tuned to F# standard tuning at the Dingwall factory. So the strings are F#-B-E-A, which means it goes down to 23.12 Hz. On a big stage with thousands of watts and an array of 18" subwoofers, that is going to be MASSIVE tone!
I am excited to hear what sort of tones new Dingwall artist Rufus Mann is going to be able to get out of this monster! It is on its way to him now.
Get YOUR Dingwall at John Fox Bass.com.
Gear used, in signal chain order:
Dingwall D-Roc Standard 4, customized for Rufus with F# Standard tuning, 3X rotary, and Domestic knobs
-SansAmp MP40 pedal briefly engaged near the end of the video
-Bergantino Super Pre, using the Post-DI out (Now IN STOCK at JohnFoxBass.com)
-IK Multimedia iRig Quattro Pro interface
-Sony a7 IV camera

Hi, John! Great video as always. I always love seeing your Dingwall demos, especially the ones with the Low F#. As a bass player, I'm really curious about Dingwall Low F# basses, and I'm hoping you could shed more light on them. Specifically, I would really want to hear more of that Low F# and how the 37" scale handles it. So, maybe you could 1) Mention the gauge of the different strings, especially the Low F#. 2) Just pluck the open strings starting from the highest open string down to the Low F# without noodling, and let each one ring out without stopping them, so we could get a better grasp of their clarity and how long they sustain. 3) Play different octaves of F#s starting from the highest, for example, F#4 on a 6-string, going down to F#3, F#2, F#1, and then that sweet F#0, all on different strings, to hear the differences in timbre. 4) Pluck all the notes on the Low F# String from 0 to the 12th fret, and show a tuner on-screen, to showcase how well the 37" length intonates with that thicc rumbly boi. That's all I could think of for now. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos! I hope I can earn enough to buy my own Dingwall someday soon.

Great suggestions, thanks! And thanks for your comments and for watching. That bass was picked up by FedEx about an hour after I recorded the video, so we will have to wait for Rufus to do a demo that fulfills your requests. Dingwall uses a .170 for the F#. The tension feels pretty even across all the strings. If you close your ears, it just plays like a regular 4-string.

@@JohnFoxBass Thanks, John! I'd love to see another demo of a 6-string tuned F#-B-E-A-D-G someday.

@@albaal7035 I did make one of those with the Lizard Green Afterburner a couple months ago. Did you see that one? I recently received another Afterburner 6 that was set up for F# but unfortunately I already converted it back to B standard.

@@JohnFoxBass Yup! I commented on that one awhile back. I see. Well of course, you're not really obliged to, but if you ever have the chance to showcase more of those Low F# Dingwalls, I'd definitely love to see them! And I think other bassists might like that too. :)

Crazy. Impressive that your speakers can reproduce those low notes so clearly.

Actually a speaker can't really make those frequencies but a not is a lot of frequencies so it will reproduce the higher frequencies (heard those tuning live it is terrible lol)

@@francoishtzl157 Thanks Francois, I recall Sheldon Dingwall mentioning that you can't hear the fundamentals that low, but 2nd, 3rd, 4th harmonics etc are what the brain is using to "hear" those notes

That's nuts! Not digging the Sansamp. Had a Bass Driver...yuck. Anyway, the bass itself is intriguing. So is that Sadowsky SA200. 😮
