The worst part about this for Hans has to be just how respectful Magnus was towards him in the post-match interview. "I felt like he was playing quite well", "he's *miles* better than he was 2 years ago", "he has good understanding". The most "disrespectful" things he said about Hans were that he blundered a lot (which is objectively true) and, indirectly, that he (Magnus) has to play much better in order to beat Alireza (which is, again, just an objective truth). Hans spun a narrative of "the entire chess world is conspiring to take me down" and then, on a completely level playing field, Magnus simply outclassed him and then said "yeah the kid's good, he's improved a lot, I'll have to play better against Firoujza". soul = crushed

I think it was a subtle burn from Magnus there. 2 years ago Magnus lost and said Hans was cheating. Today Magnus crushed him in a very different situation but Magnus said he played better.
