I bought my 65-K May 1, 1965 5R08K205643 with Rally Pac, Limited Slip, Front Disc Brakes new--all 1965-K's produced only last 5 months 65 model year were all 4-speed toploaders & we added the Limited Slip 3.89 (H-code 9 inch ) which grabbed the road, the Hurst linkage as a dealer option for stronger, smoother shifts--so instead of smoking tires; HCC-AX 16:1 manual Steering... We "Launched" on take off leaving our power on the pavement instead of frying our 'cowhides' and with the next year by August, 1966 we added 7 pounds of Boost with the $665 Paxton mid August ($750 installed)... we're pulling mid 12's in the 1/4 mile at 112 at 7000RPM--your 66 Auto w/o L/S (Fords equilock), a $42.50 option with $56 Disc Brake option was a better car than the GT option--Check it out--not all K's were GT's, but after March 25th 1965 all K's had dual avindole exhaust--These were better than GT's as the suspension was the same, exhaust no worse, and no power robbing options like an Automatic Transmission or Open Axel, and its huge power robbing torque converter we're NOT allowed,. until 1966 or power brakes, or power steering. Adding Tri-power from dealer before Paxton was available and you had 312 HP , 325 Tq... adding Paxton, Weind Colt 45 Intake put our K up at 444 Hp and 390 torque on Autolite 600 CFM 4100 at Sea-level and perfect conditions (low humidity, cool weather, and high barometric pressure), giving us mid 12 times... Get your facts straight--Not all K's we're GT's and with Disc/L-slip/Rally Pac/3 dueces/4-speeds--we're a better car, a sleeper in wolf's clothing. By the way Coupes were 50 pounds lighter than the Fastback, making them quicker at the track. Convertibles were 200 pounds heavier underneath for added rollover safety--I did add the GT package too as it saved me money over the individual options--but still needed the Lim/Slip--that all came out about even with the GT deal-But an option as most K's were not GT's. Enjoy it--I still do--with top down and a 289 on 190cc twisted wedge heads and RPM Air gap intake--with stock exhaust and roller cam--makes about 120 more HP, and 70 more Pound Ft. Torque than the 271/312. Cheers Bro. JCH.

There were so many mustangs around when I was in HighSchool I didn't even want one. I thought the Shelbys were grotesque. I did eventually buy a mustang when I was out of school. And they've been my favorite car ever since.

Really? The title is quite misleading, “how many 1996 mustang GT’s were made?” He totally overlooked convertible GTs and Coupe GTs, Instead focusing on this particular fast back.

It looks like the wheels have the stainless ring. I was given a set of those and they cleaned up great. Painted the inserts and shined up the chrome and stainless. They look just as good as the set I bought for about $900 and they were free.

@MyRod, I'm trying to determine the rarity of my '66 Mustang GT Fastback. She's Springtime Yellow, A-Code with automatic, Black Pony Interior. I believe that I'm the third owner and about to do a rotisserie restoration. With all your knowledge of all things Mustang perhaps you can help me determine if it's one of one or one of one thousand. Thanks!

Considering they made GT's as coupes and fastbacks, is that 4% of all mustangs produced or is that 4% just fastbacks. If that is just fastbscks, then how many of the coupes produced were GT. Another thing to look at is the GT came in 3 speed and 4 speed transmissions with the 4 speed being rarer. So if someone has a 4 speed, fastback GT, that could be a very rare car .

Old man has a 1966 Silver frost GT Fastback factory tinted windows, pony pack, 4 spd car, with original window sticker and all documentation. He's restoring it now and figures it's roughly 1 of 2 built with those options.

I might think more people percent wise who bought fastbacks were GT buyers, but still pretty rare. course the 500 or so which became Shelbys were maybe GT's to start.

The coupes also came with the hi-po options.Wasn't there 1965 GT's? "Well, no one has an exact number, but the Ford community"...... of course they're going to agree because they're the ones with all the GT fastbacks. Should've never changed the original design.

I love this guy, but his calculations are likely very, very far off. While there were 35,000 fastbacks and 4% of all 600,000 mustangs in 1966 were GT's, you can't assume that the cluster of fastback buyers had the same probability or propensity for buying the GT package as the . It could be argued that nearly all of the fastback buyers were likely to option the GT package. Any way you cut it, there were likely only as few as 5-15,000 fastback GT's. Still extremely rare for US domestic survivors.

I have a 1966 coupe can you tell me if I'm right In a 65 and 66 mustang you can turn any car into a gt since ford made it an option. Until 1967 you could not make your car a gt ford stopped that IS THIS CORRECT can you please answer this for me
@QualityClassics5 жыл бұрын
Ford dealers did install GT "design elements" upon request, however, that does NOT make the car a REAL GT... there are many more "functional" and "mechanical in nature" items that they did not add that are the true DNA of a real GT. I'm not aware whether or not the dealers stopped adding the design elements in '67.

nice Mustang but aren't you causing stress on the drive train by doing good burnouts? If I had it it would be a great cruiser but I'd treat it gently giving get it the respect it deserves
@nephetula7 жыл бұрын
Occasionally using all the performance available is what makes these cars so special and rewarding. If you're the "gently" type, then buy one with the straight-6 and and just putter around.
