The Hershey's Kisses ad will always hold a special place in my heart. My mom told me when i was very little (was born in '91 so it was still a still newish commercial) i was napping in her lap when suddenly the jingle began and i sat up to watch it. Then, once it was done, i went right back to bed. It's why i take the few seconds of my time to look up and watch when i see it... unless it's the version with the family ruining it.

I know it's officially the Christmas season the first time I see it on TV. And, yes, I agree, the one with the family RUINED a classic that, at least for me, defines the start of the season.

6:25 Yes. I can't remember the details, but apparently thanks to a MASSIVELY successful marketing campaign, in Japan KFC became a traditional holiday food.

Basically in the 70s KFC in Japan marketed it's chicken as a Christmas meal because Japan has no turkeys. It was a huge hit, and KFC became a Christmas staple in Japan. To the degree of being sold out. I read about it a few years back. Also, go watch A Nightmare Before Christmas already. It's a classic. If you have Disney+ it's on there.

@@theduckgoesmoo That’s not the same thing. There are probably dozens of retellings of A Christmas Carol that it’s virtually impossible to get through the month of December without seeing SOME version of it on TV. There’s: Scrooge (aka Marley’s Ghost) (1901) A Christmas Carol (1908) A Christmas Carol (1910) Scrooge (1913) A Christmas Carol (1914) The Right To Be Happy (1916) Scrooge (1922) A Christmas Carol (1923) Scrooge (1928) Scrooge (1935) A Christmas Carol (1938) Leyenda de Navidad (1947) Scrooge (1951) Scrooge (1970) Scrooged (1988) The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992) A Christmas Carol (2012) A Christmas Carol (2015) A Christmas Carol (2018) The Passion of Scrooge (2018) Spirited (2022) And those are just the theatrically released live action versions. There’s also the animated versions. Like: Mr. Magoo’s Christmas Carol (1962) A Christmas Carol (1982) Mickey’s Christmas Carol (1983) A Christmas Carol (1994) A Christmas Carol (1997) An All Dogs Christmas Carol (1998) Christmas Carol: The Movie (2001) A Christmas Carol (2006) Bah, Humduck! A Looney Tunes Christmas Carol (2006) A Christmas Carol (2009) Scrooge: A Christmas Carol (2022) And THEN there’s the made for TV versions. Either entire movies made for television broadcast, or Christmas episodes of TV shows that were popular at the time retelling the story of A Christmas Carol with one of the main characters acting in the role of “Scrooge”. I won’t bother listing them all, as the list would go on for WAY too long. But I think you get the idea.

At a certain point, you saying that you've never heard of something, never seen/played something, and/or didn't know something becomes redundant. I wonder how many times *just this year* you've said those things. I'd live to see someone make a count of that.

Number 1 is absolutely truly deserved and it still deserves more recognition. It’s a WWI story that everyone should know that shows what Christmas can really do to people. Think about it, Christmas alone caused a war to be put on pause. It is that powerful and meaningful to people. The Christmas Truce of 1914, should be considered widely as humanity’s finest Christmas, a holiday that influenced men from both sides, to at least for a day, choose humanity over war.

I actually do remember the Folgers commercial, the Honey Nut Cheerios commercial, and the Fruity Pebbles commercial (as well as the Hershey's Kisses, M&Ms, and Campbell's Soup commercials). I'd like to see you watch some of Extra History's stuff - they covered the Christmas Truce, the Sengoku Jidai period of Japan, their subsequent ill-fated invasion of Korea in their series about Admiral Yi "The Martial Lord of Loyalty", and my personal favorite, "The Seminal Tragedy", which is all about the tragic chain of events that led up to World War I. I *guarantee* that you'll tear up by the end of that particular four-episode series.

Irn Bru is Scotland's most popular fizzy drink, known for its nuclear-orange hue and a vaguely metallic taste (they used to claim it was "made from girders"). The drink is available worldwide, but the version sold within the UK is the 'authentic' recipe, with some ingredients that are literally _illegal_ in most other countries. This parody commercial, which features a bunch of famous Scottish landmarks, is tame by their standards; you'll find much weirder and wilder Irn Bru ads archived on KZbin.
