Use the totes to build the side of the bin, pallets for the floor. Fill the totes with all the wood that is too large. Bert can burn that. Saves re-splitting time and fuel.

Nice work Chris, I bought firewood last summer here in Sweden loaded in these totes, I came with a trailer and the wood seller just lifted the whole tote with a fork-lift , there must have been a special atachment to the fork lift because he just pulled a string and the forks just flipped to the side and and everything fell down into the trailer. So easy, all of his wood was loaded in the totes, I guess from processor and conveyor belt directly into the totes, and these were stacked on top of each other under a roof. So I guess there was no "hands on"required on that wood. These totes , or crates we call them in Sweden are 1x1x1 meter, so they are one cubic meter each, so this is how he sells it. Just a thought, this would save a lot of time for you.

……the bins are a good idea, now you need some kinda hopper that you can empty the bins into that will load into the truck bed or trailer depending on the load needed. Now as to the “touching” of the wood, Irene says it’s not so much the touching as it’s the stroking of said wood that gets ya in trouble or at least makes ya go blind!….

Reading through the comments I like the idea of using the totes to create a barrier wall and pallets for the main floor. You still get airflow from all sides, and once some chucking is done you can use the loader to scoop up the wood. Food for thought . Keep on cutting

If get alot of them, then just tell Andrew to fabricate a box wedge like his bigger wood splitter than your ultra and put the box wedge on the 22mb. Then just put these containers under the conveyor. No more re splits if got that box wedge. Just fill the bin and grab put away. Lol!

Good to see that both parties have a strong hold and respect for one and other. To achieve this you need to spend valuable time together, obviously you have. He'll be an excellent operator with great coordination, like you said because it's fun and he's getting the opportunity to try it out, which is a great asset. Employers want to hire fully trained personnel, no room for beginners. Anyways, enough said. Thank you for taking time to reply to me. I thought about cutting one side off of a tote and chaining it to the forks to carry wood. The bucket alone doesn't hold a lot of wood like how Ken has that cow catcher on his bucket and he stacks it way up. And it should angle over enough to dump. I stopped in my local garden center again i mentioned they cut the totes down to about 2 feet tall, fill with loose wood, and sell them on the side of the road for picked up firewood. Owner says they sold 250 bins that way last year, over $10,000 worth of firewood. Picked up. That's not too bad. I may do that on marketplace myself.

Using a sawzall with hacksaw blade you could build a bin just like the others. Cut off the sides not needed and wire them together just like the others. The cut-off sides can be wired to make the 2nd story of height. You'd end up with a bin that never rots.

When you get yhe IBC empties do the bladders come cleaned or do you have to remove any residule for the ones you use at the wood yard, and what part of a cord does a tote hold. Maybe you could introduce IBC tote pricing of firewood to your market allowing for easy delivery and/or exchange with your small vol. users and this would allow for delivery with a standard trailer with a small bobcat to any location, just a thought. Ray Stormont
@rs2024-s4u
@rs2024-s4u Жыл бұрын
Sorry I was not clearer, I mean load the filled IBC containers and the bobcat. A twin axle trailer at 7k per axel will allow about a net of 11000 pounds of cargo a small 190 bobcat will carry/lift 4000lbs at tipping the 24' trailer would carry at least 10 filled IBC containers and the bobcat the limiting factor would be trailer lenght with tracks this light bobcat can go anywhere on improved/unimproved surfaces even yard grass w/o damage a bristol condition used 190 can be purchased for less than $22K and has additional uses at woodyard a deposit one time refunded upon return could be a part of marketing plan woodyard would not need to touch wood once filled at splitting until empty is returned for re-filling gross weight for a bobcat 190 is 7600lbs allowing for at least 4500lbs of filled totes and greatly reduces woodyards handling/loading efforts and costs. A trailer that can carry heavier loads can be built if market expands allowing for many more loaded totes to be loaded for each delivery run. Ray@@jakebredthauer5100

I have totes, I use totes, totes are a pita compared to piles. Stacking nice and neat is easy using one but unloading (by hand) is very confined and the bars can bite you no matter how much you've checked for sharp edges. I think doing piles are the way to go, it might be awesome to use the conveyor to load the trailer with as well and at least no more chucking.

@@BertsCustomCuts you spark a memory in my mind, I knew a guy who would buy a school bus and strip it down and use every bit of it fabricating trailers or what ever he could use it for. Learned a lot from him as well as welding. You guessed it, he was a farmer, started a excavation company, and then leased the farm land out to other farmers and worked out of his pole barn fabricating all sorts of stuff. Why do you put the support bars back in? I use totes as well for my smoker customers. I cut off the top of the bladder to use as cover for the wood. I also cut out a section of one side of the panels for easy access stacking and unloading. I then put 1X3 boards on either side of the tote where I made the cut so I can slide the cut-out piece back in for transportation. NOTE (1) when you deliver take the gate off and attach it to the side of the tote with zip ties if not it won't be there when you get back usually to exchange totes. NOTE (2) Charge a $50 deposit on the tote the first time. Keeps the customer coming back and to respect your totes. (KFC) Keith's Firewood Company. Gosh, why are those silly things worth gold out west. Dirty old ones go for 75 all the time. . You need what ive seen at scrap yards. Forklift holds bin over a hopper and spins it. You dont need 360 just 135 degrees of rotation. Something that quick attaches to the FEL and uses the auxiliary hyd function to rotate it. Thats my 0.01c Have fun..
