4 out of 5 correct, play number 3 could be a double fault, in my opinion the defender looks for the player who is moving with his shoulder… I see that both players could have looked for contact. (Analyzing the play several times and with zoom).

Interesting take.

Are you alright with the obvious advantage gained by Black #3 in play 1?

This play seems to be a textbook play on Rule 4.27.2. But it is just our opinion.

I'm not sure about #4. Does the offensive player have a higher responsibility for contact simply because the defender is not paying attention? I mean he's on defense, so where is he running if he does not know that the offensive player is coming at him. There are no other players to defend in the direction he's running. I think he may have purposely placed himself in the path of the offensive player.

There are rules on how to set a screen legally. As long as the offensive player is within those parameters, there is no additional responsibility, regardless of severity of contact. Here is one of our Rule Reviews discussing screens. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qKTQf4JmeJaegNk

@@OfficialsInstitute I realize this, but why are we assuming he was setting a screen? The defensive player was running to a place on the floor where there were no offensive players (toward the 3 point line between top of the key and the wing). How can we consider this a screen? Is he setting a screen for himself? It looks like off ball movement to get open.

I agree. Really tough to call that an offensive foul. The defender moved into his running lane at the last second and didn’t even know the offensive player was coming across. The offensive player was definitely not setting a screen.
