You said East bid 4C because they were considering sacrificing over 4H. But in theory 4C commits them to playing in 4S (4C isn’t guaranteed to be a playable spot) and gets partner to lead a club against 5H. I say in theory because they didn’t follow through. West should be careful to not make a “quick pass” over 4H to discourage a 4S bid.

If east passed, west would have led a spade for two quick tricks for the defense and then declarer would have no way of making 10 tricks 😅 That's tough! The club lead did have the potential for 2 down, though

West should double to let partner know he has shortage in clubs and also to stop East from bidding 4S.
