Hi Greg, you forgot to add in the fertigation and water expense for those on city water. Still a great deal for the seed price, can't beat the great taste, and the big smiles on others' faces when they taste these! Priceless! God bless.

Wow! that's a lot of watermelons! Your family and neighbors are lucky, indeed! And once again, you've shown us that starting your own plants will save you a ton of money. I can attest that it's true!

Nice to know the averages per plant for watermelon. I planted 3 watermelons for the first time in a spot that is going to be an expansion of my garden come fall. Its about 30'x20'. I could have put a few more in, but the space isnt going to waste I have some tomato suckers I rooted in containers there as well. Not sure how much the watermelons will take over the space. But I can move the tomatoes easily.

First time watermelon grower here. Im hooked! Got fantastic Sangria and Wilson's this season. Only a couple plants each. But we harvested 4 sangria and 5 Wilson's. The sangria's are super sweet and crisp. Im going to blow up my whole yard next year with melons. I can't wait

So i did a little math and it comes out like: One watermelon plant per 0,6141 square meters (which is some high intensity growing :-) ) And you get 1 watermelon fruit (3.62 kg weight per watermelon fruit on average) per 0,2568m2 (square meter) planted... Or said differently - you get 3,89 watermelons per each 1m2 (square meter) planted... Somebody might find this useful 🙂 I counted you as you having a plot the size of 1215 sq feet instead of your mentioned 1080 square feet because you must accoutn additional 0,5 row space on both sides since the vines will grow there too. I counted as you having the plot of 113 square meters (1215 sq ft) instead of your mentioned 100 square meters (1080 sq ft). If all these square meters and meters sound crazy to you, use google for translation :-))

Question: When y’all bag seeds, do y’all count out how many seeds by hand or do y’all estimate
@jenniferspeers2453
@jenniferspeers2453 3 жыл бұрын
It will be both. Depends on the seed, depends on pack size. Some will be counted ex. A self polinating cucumber seed, or a specified 10pk tomato. Most others will be based on weight. Each gram may have 700 carrot seeds in it, or 698, 703 etc. So if you order a larger package with 1 ouce of carrot seeds you can expect about 20,000 seeds. They aren't counting that, for sure.

I see you are looking at the expense of raising your own Vs. buying. I think you come out better at the grocery store. For instance, I can by sweet corn at Food Lion sometimes 5 ears for a dollar. My Peaches and Cream seed didn't cost much, but there's the water, fertilizer, gas for the tiller, pesticides... and a good strong storm could wipe me out. But I enjoy messing with the plants just like you do.

@TXplowgirl I don't think you can stay away from synthetic fertilizers and GMO foods unless you only eat what comes from your garden or from people you know and trust. I am in no position to do that so I eat the Frankenstein foods... meat full of hormones and antibiotics, grains sprayed with Round Up Glyphosate, vegetables such as Romaine lettuce full of salmonella and E Coli. Bon Appetit!

@@gardeningwithhoss Maybe people just have to get into an idea that there is plenty to share, if someone is offering and putting it out there for the taking, using the bountiful harvest is good . I would have rather the tomatoes were eaten by someone than go to the compost bin.
