This channel exists to document unit counters within StarCraft 2. Tya's Unit Tournament features epic battles between units in StarCraft 2, using music from the game's soundtrack. Units are chosen from Protoss, Terran and Zerg forces, or a coop commander such as Raynor, Nova, Artanis, or Kerrigan. Units will independently use their abilities, in a basic way. All units use Legacy of the Void stats, the same units you'd see in SC2 esports controlled by the likes of Serral, Maru, and ByuN. The resource beneath vespene is the unit's cost in the mod I run on the SC2 arcade, Direct Strike. Enjoy!

The Marines v Zealots round was decided 100% by the marines targeting the Sentries instead of the Zealots.

It's intentional, casters always get higher default targeting priority when you A move, unless there is a direct threat that is closer.

I mean, with guardian shield covering them, the marines do almost no damage to zealots. In actuality, this fight, like the overwhelming majority of fights on this channel, were decided 100% by the lack of micro. With this amount of marines, kiting backwards would have pulled the zealots out of guardian shield range and allowed the marines to mow down the zealots.

1. I feel like PF wins this, but I might be biased from playing on ladder where you would just mass repair. Result: Just one more shot would've had it I think, damn. 2. I think that's enough immortals to take the ultras, and not enough Hydras to dps through. Result: Yeah that's about right. 3. That's enough layers of marines to have really huge damage density. Terran. Result: So close! Guardian shield doesn't stack, right? 4. Bio has more damage, but mech has more health... My gut says bio Result: Marauders are baller 5. You would've had the first wave if you thought about the title for a minute. Tya put exactly 28 zerglings against that PF, which means this is exactly how many zerglings it takes to kill one.

Guardian shield does not stack, but it's a spell that's specifically designed to counter marines (there are a lot of protoss and zerg spells and units that are designed to counter marines, actually.) 5 effective armor reduces marine damage to 3 per shot, which is quite low. Mutas would have annihilated the carriers if they were microed into a tight ball like they're supposed to be. It's why Protoss has to make archons and/or templar to handle muta play - eventually the mutas get to such numbers that they're one shotting the initial target and potentially killing or almost killing secondary targets because they're all attacking the same target all at once. If you don't have some means of discouraging the zerg player from keeping their mutas all in one little ball, it hits critical mass rapidly.

I maintain that splash units vs carriers should crush down interceptors instead of focusing the carriers themselves. The archons from a few videos back (who did win, but barely) and the mutas here would have had much more success just letting their splash annihilate the fragile interceptors. Clean up on the carriers are easy when there's no damage coming out of them. The target fire is not very effective if they aren't all targeting the same carrier.

No, mass carriers essentially beat everything unless the carrier itself is being targeted. Unless you can magically kill one carrier's specific interceptors one at a time both the targeting and interceptor replenishment rates are too much of a hindrance in the carrier matchup. By the time there's 4+ carriers, you are always better off going after the main ship.

@@HellecticMojo kinda disagree, marines and archons beat carriers better if they target down the interceptors, marine because pure dps vs 0 base armor interceptors, archons because splash + hp. There might be some more that can deal with interceptors better than focusing on the carriers, like fungal (i think?), So that other things can kill them (also 30 damage vs 40/40 unit is over 1/3 of the hp).

Of course, if all 40 mutas were hitting a single carrier, that'd be the way to go.. but with 5 mutas hitting each carrier, the damage output is way too low and you're going to get beat, clearly.
