How "Maximum Medical Improvement" impacts your workers comp case!

What does it mean when your doctor tells you that you have reached "Maximum Medical Improvement"?
In the Georgia workers’ compensation world, the phrase “maximum medical improvement” carries a great deal of significance. #maximummedicalimprovement
It means that the workers’ compensation doctor who has been authorized to treat you by your employer and their insurance company has decided that there is nothing more he/she can do for you and that no further medical improvement is likely.
If you accept this MMI conclusion, the doctor will assign a permanent partial disability (PPD) rating to you and your case will be marked for closure.
As I discuss in this video, however, there can be many problems with an MMI designation by an authorized treating physician.
- You may still be recovering and you may have the potential for even greater recovery with additional treatment. We may need to argue that the MMI designation is premature.
- The PPD rating may be too low, and thus limit the settlement value of your case.
- The insurance company may try to use the MMI designation and PPD rating to make a lowball settlement offer.
In fact, you have many options to challenge the maximum medical improvement designation issue by the authorized doctor. #authorizedtreatingphysician
Understand that an MMI designation by a posted panel doctor almost always serves to minimize both the on-going wage and medical benefits for which you are eligible, and it will likely damage your settlement negotiations. #workerscompensationsettlement

Same here I had a nerve black done still have problem I reach maximum medical I’mprove I had a small Bulging disc so they save still to day I’m same time knock to me knees cause of tail bone pain. Case still open what to do befor they try to close my case I don’t trust this sometime he work with l an I what to do I have to insurance I’m doing a law suit. Got hit by a concrete pump truck arm

I had a nerve damage injury on my foot. Its been one year. Ive been to therapy, MRI, shock tests for nerve conducting and all cam back saying i have damage. I bothers me to this day. The insurance was late a few rimes with my check . I hired and attorney and they are asking me if im ready to settle. I still feel disconfort. What do i say? Im in Douglasville Ga.

What is a global settlement in workers comp

Generally speaking when I refer to a "global" settlement I am talking about a resolution of all claims - medical, lost wages, out of pocket costs, etc. Once a settlement agreement is signed, a claimant cannot go back and "reopen" any part of his/her claim.
