Actually, it was publicity man Howard Dietz who thought up the Goldwyn lion ( as a shout out to the mascot of his alma mater Columbia) He also doubled as a lyricist.🦁

As an MGM musicals fan, this is just awesome.

This is fascinating but you don't explain how ARS GRATIA ARTIS. (Art For Art's Sake) came about or who came up with it. I did see it was on the original Goldwyn logo which I did find really interesting. Anyway, great job, a credit to KZbin. I knew the basics of MGM, my favorite studio, but had no idea it was all so complicated. A friend actually got me in to tour the studio when it was Columbia. But sorry I never got to sneak into the back lots and it broke my heart when they were torn down. Cheers. (The Transcript thing is really cool.)

Great video. I watched a video of Louie Mayer making a speech to St Patrick in an old video from the early 20th century

At 6:24 to 6:30, wrong, I think you mean Irving Thalberg died in 1936. But close enough.

Did I get that wrong? Whoopsie! Sorry 'bout that.
@Kevin-xv9pm3 жыл бұрын
@@AvuncularFeldspar It's okay. It's a smaller mistake you created. And I never knew that the MGM lion logo had the imprint of Marcus Loew on it either. Pretty cool, though.
