I love that you used one of the easiest licks in the entire book for this video. When I got the book I paged through it and was stunned at the originality and difficulty of the exercises. Yet, when you play them, you immediately hear Mike's musical voice. Such a great book, thanks for sharing!

This is an amazing book and I really love it. I get crazy inspired. The problem is that every page is 100 hours of practice :) I will definitely dig into more of the pages. Have a great one.

I read about Michael Brecker practise scrapbook but now you've worked so hard to give us a REAL practice book. Thanks, Soren. Happy New Year.

Than you so much. Brecker keeps inspiring me, I am only enterpreting his material and for some making it more understandable and applicable. But I thank you much for your compliment and your eager to learn. All the best

Happy New Year Soren. I needed this video. I'm really struggling with timing, what I trying to do is count beats and bars i e 1and2and3and4and2and2an3..... etc but can't concentrate on counting and playing same time! Looking for solution but so far not found 😕👍

Do you mean when you're reading rests in a big band chart? If no, just count 1 bar at a time (but, yes, do the sub-dividing).

I would really advise you to start composing jazz lines. Very short lines, less than one bar. Over short progressions. Starting one the 1beat. When you come to the rests of the line you can count out loud and start the next line on the 1. Slowly you will get used to hear the 4 beats in the period. Another thing is play the same pattern over a progression - a two beat arpeggio fx and then a 2 beat rest. This also trains your feel of the bar. You will internalize the 4 beat feel when keeping at it. Let me know if it works. All the best
