Was he really indecisive? He was caught between a bunch of much more powerful states. Appearing to be weak and going along with a lot of what the Italians and Nazis wanted meant that he could still secretly exercise some power to act against them, or at least it seems possible that this is an accurate assessment. I'm sure a more detailed analysis of historical documents could paint a clearer picture. Just the fact that he clearly wasn't pro-nazi or fascist, and that he and at least some other members of Monaco's government and citizenry tried to act against the interests of the Axis powers, even though a large percentage of their citizens were actually pro-fascist, is actually pretty impressive.

What nonsense! Most of Europe was pro-fascist. The countries that weren't were looking for a war against Germany from at least 1937 on. Most especially FDR. They talk about Poland. Poland was a military dictatorship not a plutocratic Democracy like Britain and France. The biggest issue the British and Americans had with German, Italy and Japan was their inability to control the fascist banking systems. Britain, France and the USA couldn't get out of the Great Depression no matter what they did. German was out of the Depression in 1934-354 without a `military buildup" or expansion.There were more Americans unemployed in 1937 then there were when FDR came to power in 1933. There was even a 2nd stock market in 1937 in the USA that never gets talked about.

@TheLoughDuck55 The really basic statements that are made from the very start... 'The Great War, now known as the First World War', 'Mussolini came to power in Italy', 'Hitler comes to power in Germany'. The video is about Monaco in the Second World War. Anyone clicking on this will have heard of Monaco and heard of the Second World War so let's assume they are already fairly informed. They therefore do not need to be told who Mussolini and Hitler were, or have the term 'the great war' explained to them? It just strikes me as either... 1. The creator doesn't actually have much information to tell us about Monaco in the Second World War and so drags out the script by adding useless additional filler Or... The creator really isn't very good at this and feels he has to explain everything, like he's talking to a seven-year-old. It's a shame, as it should be an interesting story that is rarely told elsewhere on KZbin. Instead, it's like watching an episode of Sesame Street featuring the Country Monaco

Monaco was one 5 European nations and 65 nations around the world that boycotted the 1980 Moscow Olympics.
@karlheinzvonkroemann22172 ай бұрын
Yeah a bunch of western leaning states fell in line behind the USA and in turn boycotted those Olympic games, which were held in Moscow. The reason given was because the Soviets had invaded Afghanistan but it was more or less just a way to hurt the Soviets economically by trying to make their games a monetary and political failure. The Olympic games were supposed to be non-political events where countries put their wars on hold and then went off and had their sporting events for a little while every so many years.
@67nairb2 ай бұрын
@@karlheinzvonkroemann2217OT I know why they boycotted the Moscow games and many who did were Muslim countries. Since a fellow Muslim country like Afghanistan was invaded by an atheistic Communist country like the Soviet Union, boycotting the games in that atheistic communist country seemed natural. The only Muslim country that boycotted the Moscow Olympics but not necessarily because the United States did and that country was Iran. We must remember that in 1980, 52 Americans were being held hostage in Tehran the Iranian capitol with an extremist ruler holding the power of life and death over those hostages, the Ayatollah Khomeini. Khomeini referred to the United States as the Great Satan for supporting the Shah of Iran and for Westernizing that country. So Iran boycotted the 1980 games on the own accord, but they were not following America's lead. It boycotted the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles, but not necessarily because the Soviet Union and it's satellites boycotted it, they were boycotting the games because they were being held in an enemy country. I'm sure the Ayatollah hated the Soviet Union with it's atheistic government; his was a theocracy and do you think for one moment a theocracy would do business with an atheist state that oppressed Christians, Jews and Muslims? Iran was Afghanistan's Western neighbor and with the USSR's invasion of that country, I'm sure the Ayatollah Khomeini feared Soviet expansionism in his country. He was anti-Israel too. One of the reasons why the Soviets invaded Afghanistan was because Moscow feared the Islamic Revolution which began in Iran in 1979 would spread to Afghanistan then a Moscow client and worse the USSR's Central Asian republics. The four other European countries that boycotted the Moscow Olympics were West Germany, Norway, Albania and the tiny principality of Liechtenstein, biggest boycott in Olympic history.
@67nairb2 ай бұрын
@@karlheinzvonkroemann2217 OT Biggest boycott in modern Olympic history. I know the US boycotted the Moscow Olympics in 1980. Most of the countries that boycotted those games were Muslim. But one Muslim country boycotted those games not necessarily because the USA did; that country was Iran. We must remember that in 1980, Iran was holding 52 American diplomats hostage at the US embassy in Tehran with an extremist government with an equally extremist leader that held the power of life and death over those diplomats. Iran's ruler, the Ayatollah Khomeini, hated the USA because of it's support for the Shah and referred to America as the Great Satan. President Carter tried to save the hostages by force with helicopters who would raid the US Embassy, but it failed miserably. The hostages were eventually released on 1/20/81, the very day Ronald Reagan became POTUS. So Iran boycotted the Moscow games on it's accord not because the USA did, but because the Soviets invaded a fellow Muslim country, Afghanistan, it's neighbor to the east. I learned of Monaco's boycott of the Moscow games on You Tube video called THE COLD WAR IN 9 MINUTES. A little back on topic what did you think of Princess Grace?

What country does the flag between the French and Austro-Hungarian flags represent?
@DinoHistorians2 ай бұрын
It is the union mark of the Kingdom of Sweden - Norway.
