The first hour is all important. My Dad had a stroke several years ago. Driving down the highway between Ottawa and Montreal, my stepmom in the passenger seat. Dad has heart disease. He has had open heart surgeries, and various other procedures. He gulps down a fistful of pills every day. Thankfully we are in Canada, so he has always had the finest care. He realized, clipping down the highway like a jet pilot ( because he DID fly planes on and off of Canada's only aircraft carrier) , that he was feeling some facial paralysis and weakness. He announced the stroke, somehow got the car off to the shoulder of the road, and passed out. My stepmom, moving at Mach 1, got out, ran around the car, shoved Dad over, got behind the wheel and drove like a maniac to the nearest hospital emergency. She got him there in under half an hour. She gave the doctor treating Dad his full pill list. Then said "You'll be able to give him that special stroke blood thinner drug, to stop the stroke". The doctor looked at her funny and told her that Dad was ALREADY taking it, to keep his heart valves from clogging. My Dad had the OTHER kind of stroke. Because he had to take that blood thinner pill every day, his body was already fighting the clot in his brain. Yes he passed out for a while. He was exhausted for weeks. And he had a complete recovery.

So glad he's doing well - it really shows what apt & timely treatment can do. My mum had a severe stroke six weeks before Montel's...the NHS took 24 hours to diagnose what we could see in an instant and the opportunity for treatment and all hope of meaningful recovery was lost (I'm caring for her at home but there's no calling it a good outcome). I wish Montel and his family all the best moving forward.

*Poor Robin, there's something inherent in Montel from his time as a Marine & a talk show host that, w/out even thinking about it, caused him to commandeer the interview from her!* 🤣 *I think it's safe to say she didn't mind though.* 😆 *Bless his heart, Montel has had a lot of hardships in his life health wise. But he's always plowed through like a champ & been a voice to the masses. I've been a fan for many yrs & I have to admit, I've always had a little crush on him. With those good looks, his love of God & country, being a Marine, his honest & giving heart & the beautiful sensitivity he has, what's not to love¡?¡*

I am glad for Mr. Jordan, but I feel so bad for the countless people in this world who have no insurance and no rehabilitation during those critical first months of the stroke. I'm a stroke survivor and I'm so thankful, humbled and blessed that I had the help of P.T.,O.T.,and S.T. those weeks after my Stroke on Xmas day 2022. I intend to go back to the Hospital and thank each one of them in person asap.

Ooooh sounds like a thunderclap headache, which means a hemorrhagic stroke. Weight lifting can be dangerous if done too much or improperly. I gave myself a hiatal hernia lifting weights and now have horrific GERD & chronic gastritis. If I'd known that was even possible I NEVER would've done weight training. Not worth it. Montel has been so brave dealing with his MS & health issues all these years.

My grandmother had a stroke in 1986. It didn't kill her but she had slurred speech. Just about every person in my mom's family had a stroke. One of my uncles had a couple of them. It left his hand paralyzed. High blood pressure can cause a stroke too.

"You get out of it what you put in" is such nonsense. Don't get me wrong - yes, you have to work hard during stroke recovery in order to get anything back. BUT - not every stroke is 100% recoverable. I should know - I had my stroke 5 1/2 years ago, and I worked my ASS off during recovery. Yet, I only got back about 75-80%, and everything still hurts. ALOT. ALL THE TIME. I put in 100%, I got back significantly less. When people like Montel Williams say nonsense like this without context it makes it hard on all of us stroke survivors, because now people look at us and assume that we didn't give 100% to our recovery - which is horseshit. I'm glad he was able to find some recovery, don't get me wrong, but his words leave alot to be desired. - Stroke Survivor who isn't wealthy, had limited access to healthcare and recovery clinics, and didn't have a special stroke ambulance within three blocks of his house :(
@conradoaguirrejr7464 жыл бұрын
i was in the hospital delivering a baby at the time of my hemorragic stroke...and like you i put in 100 % ( id like to think more) but ive only gained minimal use of my right side. you dont always recover 100% matter of fact always left with a deficit to some degree and once i convinced family to STOP with the "you will get back 100%" i was a much happier person. 6 yrs out 9-4-2020...
@shenequakimbro26604 жыл бұрын
I understand what you mean. My sister had a stroke in 2018 and I've seen her try to get recovered. It's not easy at all. She already wore an LVAD on top of that. She died in 2019 because she was tired of suffering. She knew if she had the LVAD removed that she would die and was ready to go. I've seen her try to get up but there were times where pushing was overwhelming. Being in the bed and not able to do for yourself can depress anyone and she start losing interest in things she once enjoyed. Don't be discouraged, keep trying, build up a strong support system and pray. I also became ill this year and it's frustrating to see other ppl with access to better healthcare. Something has to change with that as well.
