Like many I was appalled at the lack of control over the production of something designed to save lives. I have ridden motorbikes for over 50 years, and, I will admit, occasionally used "cheap" helmets, but they have always met the relevant safety standards. I tried to find a price for these, but couldn't specifically find this make - however I did discover many "unbreakable", "maximum protection", full face helmets selling new for Rs1000 (Pakistani) and at current exchange rates this is ... less than UK£4.00!

The main reason why many survive in India and most of Asia is because of how slow we travel. Even with some good highways in between, the average I get when I travel for 600km a day is just over 65kmph. If we all were to travel at 100+ kmph (average), these helmets and in fact our vehicles would prove to be useless. Things are slowly changing and companies have started selling safety as a feature. That's progress from where it used to be.

I’m seeing a lot of this videos and are wonderful jobs they do but also a risky one. It’s seems like the employer don’t provide the employees safety equipments for them. Hope this young people never die because of cancer, incapacitated for hot metal burning and handling without proper shoes. Feel worried but at the time they want to work and give their family at least one meal a day.
@ArunBasilLal Жыл бұрын
It's not always the employer to blame. Employees don't want the "hazzle" or "inconvenience" of using safety equipment more often than you think. Wearing a normal surgical mask is uncomfortable, as you can relate from our recent pandemic. Having to wear safety masks, googles and ear protection in the hot and often humid weather is hard. Workers don't care about their long term health as much as we would think. There is a car workshop nearby where they rebuild car bodies. I saw this guy sanding off filler material and spray painting without wearing any mask. I immediately went to my car and offered him two face masks and told him what sort of danger he is in. He wore it for the time being. When I went back to get my car, the masks I gave him was no where to be seen and he was back to doing his job. Gave me an awkward smile when he saw me. Since I knew the owner of the garage, I talked to him about the situation. He took me to a shelf and showed me good quality 3M masks (the kind that you see in breaking bad with huge filters on it) that the workers had access to, but were refusing to wear. These masks are expensive and imported in India. The owner wouldn't have invested in them if he didn't care. But how much can he tell his staff to wear it? My Dad being an Engineer often provides safety equipment to people who work in our household. He is unpopular because he makes carpenters wear masks during sanding. My Dad is relentless and often gives them long lectures on safety. They don't like it.

@TimelyTurtle2 ай бұрын
I know it's easy to say that these kinds of cheap bike helmets are also manufactured in India, but believe me, we don't make helmets like this. In India, helmets must meet the ISI safety standards, which is mandatory for any helmet. The helmets you're seeing in the video are from Pakistan. Most people in India buy helmets that exceed the ISI standards. For example, mine is an Axor Apex, which meets ISI, DOT, and ECE 22.05 standards. While some people do buy cheaper helmets, even those must have ISI certification, so they’re not like the ones in the video, which are handmade without proper safety standards in Pakistan.

I've watched and read ALOT of the comments here about the lack of control of building a "correct" helmet... Well first let me tell you about myself... One...i used to be a motorcycle cop 40 years ago and have ridden Harleys and other vintage bikes going back to the 1920's... But yes i have too say that i most likely wouldn't use one of these helmets if i could help it ... As a cop i saw ALOT of deaths because of improper head gear... Like those "German" looking helmets... One of the worse for accidents...but i guess their trying to make a statement... Now two ... I've also now been a cameraman for over 40 years and have been all over the world 🌎 shooting movies and shows... But I've also been to Packistan and actually seen some of these along the roadside manufacturing shops for all sorts of things... And its sad how they have too work...and for pennies to keep living... I did find out that alot of these helmets are sold just locally to motorbike people...but some i sure make there way all over the world... What i really wish... Is if i had ALOT of money... I'd like to buy these small places the high tech correct equipment to build a really fine piece of safety equipment and where they don't have to bend over on the floor all the time... I mean i had a couple of old Corvette's and had to redo some of the fiberglassing and even with gloves 🧤 on i got some in me... I couldn't think how calest their hands must be to do it without gloves... But that's just the conditions their in... And for those of you that would say why don't i... if i have the money put a factory together in the U.S. too make helmets... Yes i would do that...the U.S. comes first in my book and always has... Charity begins at home i know... But too help those who need it... wherever it is...helps... No one has too tell me that... I'm also an ex-combat photographer like my dad was in the Navy in WWII... God love him and my mom... But i wish I could do alot... Third thing i didn't say is that right now I'm dealing with PTSD and cancer...so that's what I get... Oh hopefully I'll make it through... But this is just my thoughts on what I'd do if i could...
