So great to see Allison on camera! 😊 Would love to hear how you two decided on Perelman as a couple- were you prioritising being at the same school, or balancing that with other factors such as cost, location, curriculum, etc?

I think some of the most important things for us were definitely cost and location - we wanted to avoid HCOL if possible, liked the city, and I personally wanted to go to the east coast since I did undergrad in CA. Most MD curriculums were pretty much the same across the schools we were considering tbh Research fit for me was also important because of the PhD part of my training, and so Penn was my first choice going into the application process. We definitely wanted to go to schools in the same area of the country but never anticipated we would get into the same school!

My MD-PhD stipend (post-tax) and Allison's loans each come out to ~3k/month on average, so a 5k budget was really doable for us! We also both have part-time jobs to help us save up and afford fun/unexpected expenses

$0 for med school! Wow, amazing - my hubs went to PCOM and came out with 300k but quickly paying that down!

Allison's a permanent resident and her application process was basically identical to a US citizen's! Unfortunately neither of us are familiar with the international student app process
