The first thing you said is not true at all. Organic listings still appear. Sometimes eBay charges you for the promoted fee and sometimes they don't, it depends on how the buyer got to the ad. I watch this video to learn something not to be fed false information.

I only have one or 2 views on my listings, 5 tops. I've redone pictures, keywords, descriptions and I'm just so discouraged. I keep revising the listings and dropping the price even!

Yes, you lose money, say you list an item for £10, at 100% promoted listing rate that means when the item sells ebay will charge you £10 plus their usual fees and of course you have the costs of supplying the item to the buyer plus any taxes you owe...
