I was a late drinker, I didn't start until I left the Army at 43. I was drinking one bottle of wine and 6 beers a day, then it progressed to two bottles and 6 beers. It was effecting my work so I stopped drinking wine and drank 12 beers, and double that on Fridays through to Sunday. That was for 10 years, my health is in rag order and I've decided to stop drinking since 3rd of January. Its been eight months since my last drink and I'm still suffering of tiredness and brain fog in the mornings. I still get urges to drink and its never far away on my mind, even though I have tried to stop many times before, this time I will not fail.

I was drinking 10-14 units every evening Sunday to Thursday, then Fridays and Saturdays I'd "treat" myself to even more alcohol as it was the weekend. On some occasions if there was an event to go to, such as a wedding or christening, I could start drinking from 11:30am and carry it through until midnight no problem. The evening drinking aforementioned was consistent for just over 7 years. In that whole period I only ever had ONE evening where I didn't have any alcohol, and that was only because we'd been travelling home from Greece that night. I often wonder why I didn't snap out of it sooner, but it's a pointless thought to dwell on. The best thing we can do is accept what we've done and move on. No looking back, no self pity, just stay focused and keep moving forwards 🙌 For anyone who's on the fence and feels unsure if you can quit or not... if I can do it, and Steven can do it, and all these people in the comments can do it... guess what? My drinking career got me to the point where I'd give myself a weekday off, drop the Mrs of at work, the little one at nursery and buy 8 Tesco apple cider cans at 5abv or whatever was strong , all before 9am. I would polish those off before midday followed by heading out to the local and drink about 3 to 4 pints of Aspalls Cider and on my way home buy 2 cans of JD and Coke if I had time. Baring in mind this is just one of the routines I had structured in my life at the time, as there were many others. Would nap it all off before collecting my family after 5, awful example of a bad habit. It was a groggy life with constant gut issues, headaches, chest pains. Brings it all back. As I got older the physiological and emotional symptoms got steadily worse, and it took longer and longer to recover. By the time I was in my mid-forties, one heavy session in the pub cost me four or five days. Even if I'd enjoyed drinking that much (and I didn't), it wouldn't have been worth it. The anxiety, tiredness and depression I had to battle through at work most days was a job in itself. A very lonely and frightening place. :-(

I was a binge drinker up until about 2-3 years ago. I was getting through 8-9 boxes of 18x Strongbow in under a week. I detached myself from my missus and my kids and just used to drink in my man cave upstairs all day every day. I was verbally abusive to my wife, used to make her cry etc, I was a real "£$%. Until one day she came to me and said I can't do this any more. You either knock drinking on the head and severely cut down, or you'll have to leave. That was the wake-up call I needed, as I didn't want to lose her and especially my kids. I have a small drink now once every 4/5 weeks? If that. Big mistake. For me, I have to be consistently listening to videos, reading the right stuff etc etc each and everyday because it serves as such an important reminder why we stopped pouring this filthy poison down our throats in the first place. I started off being a weekend teenager drinker. That moved on to first job and a few times a week drinker, had big days still on the weekend. That then again moves on to drunk every night drinker to a drunk all day and night drinker. I think there are key stages where one moves from weekly > daily and an even bigger warning sign and big/bad step is when you obviously wake up and start drinking first thing in the morning. The 7am beers. I always loved beer and that was what I drank most of the time but once drunk you will drink anything as most people will know. Drinking beer a pub outing was atleasst 10 - 15 pints. At home a case ( 24) beers or with a friend 2 cases. To much. None of it is good. No amount is safe, give it up and live the good life

The most important thing may appear to be the simplest. Admit to how much you are drinking then you can start to recognise your problem rather that hide it within your soul until your body through pain forces action but even then you may blame it on other things so admitting it to yourself and i think others which is brave will help you to start a recovery. I took the choice a long time ago that alcohol is poison and it's bad for you......even though I was always primed to be a drinker. After growing up in the 70s & 80s with my nan and grandad taking me and my sister down the working men's club on a Friday and Saturday night, a bag of crisps and a bottle of dandelion and burdock to share. Then onto shandy and eventually lager as a teenager, leaving school and getting a job, living for Friday and Saturday night etc etc. I never really enjoyed drinking if I'm honest, and with childhood traumas surrounding the stuff, I found it easy not to drink, and I'd rather have a cup of tea these days to be honest 😆✌️

I started drinking vodka... a liter kept me going near enough a week... but very, very quickly a liter was a days worth (i drank morning till night and finish the bottle in the night when id wake up) then i found my nemesis... whiskey and id drink the same amount daily some days even more untill i developed symptoms that made it really horrible (3 or so years later i realised it was liver related) but when the symptoms got worse, like all intelligent alcoholics i blamed spirits and made the healthy choice to switch to Skol super and special brews (my logic was theyre only 8% and 7.5% so they must be way better for me) but drank the same in units as i did with spirits. The last year of drinking before i started to edge towards, and finally actually attain sobriety, i drank a mix really. Like, maybe 4 or 5 pints of lager, a bottle of wine and a small bottle of whiskey etc. I regret it BUT im grateful i drank so hard so soon in my life as it stopped me from being a drinker for many decades before it hit me i MUST stop. Had my 1st and only relapse 11 days ago... lasted 4 weeks, but now 11 days back sober ill NEVER throw my sobriety away again it means just to much to me. I remember in one of your videos steven, you said "do 7 days first... then at 7 say to yourself ill do 10, and at day 10 youll be feeling so much clearer to continue is so much easier" and i can 100% say, thats the case... something switches in the mind at day 10 no idea why, and its plain sailing from there... it was the same last time i got properly sober for many months. Of course, you have to REALLY want it, and switch 180 degrees mindset wise to make healing your only focus in life, else i can imagine it not really making much difference, 10 days or 10 months if you still fall for the non- sensical bollocks the alcoholic mind seems to spew out as being worth even a minute of your time. Stay strong all you sober people keep getting healthier - if youre desparate to get sober go for it, everyones behind you, you are worth it and deserve freedom and your health back and to those reading still slamming back drink after drink, everyone only wants to see you healthier, despite the drink, get that healthy diet going and if possible a long walk or 2 as and when... and that will lead to the possibility of you taking it a step further and maybe cutting down / getting sober. Those sober for 1 year, pat on the back BUT by then you have the strength to keep on keeping on, but those of you 1 day sober, we stand up and cheer for you, as its you who are showing phenominal courage and strength, to turn around and face the demon and declare war on it, despite the overwhelming pressure - you are inspiring :).

We call weak beer or lager bladder wash. I always lie to my doctor about how much I drink. If he knew, he'd probably refuse to treat me. Ironically, they are the ones who go home and drink a bottle of spirit. I know I drink too much. I have recently had a CT scan regarding my past bowel cancer and it picked up that I had a fatty liver. I am overweight and a heavy drinker. I am borderline diabetic and have high cholesterol. Drinking has become a habit, but it's relaxing. Hub and me start around 6.30pm. I have a bottle of prosecco and he has two bottles of Henry Westons cider. I cook a nice meal every single night and then we drink some red while listening to some music and having a dance. I have maybe one large glass and then I go to bed around 10pm. Hub stays up so don't know how much more wine he drinks. Probably has two more. We don't drink in the day and only do this if we're going out for lunch which is very rare now. I guess I will end up in A & E before I do anything about it. If I was living on my own, I wouldn't drink. It's boring drinking on your own and very dangerous. My schoolfriend died recently from alcohol. Oddly, I never saw her with a glass in her hand. She was a secret drinker. I blame lockdown when it escalated and she got into debt because she was unable to work and earn any money.

So how much did you drink in your latter years a day? Sorry I’m not sure I understand your video
@stevencurry215Ай бұрын
@@cjones8976 probably about 10 drinks over a 24 hour period just to try and function…as alcohol ravishes your body your liver can’t take too much punishment so the final days before hospital was maybe 6-7 drinks just to try and stop withdrawal

I would drink 8 cans per night then come the week end i would drink 8 or 9 pints then would buy 8 cans of beer and would be pissed i admit thats how i got type 2 diabetes i remeber back in 2015 i ended up in hospital i remember 1 night i was so pissed i banged the back of my head off the edge of the radiator the ambulance was called when the paranedics got me to the back of the ambulance they discoverd that my blood presure was sky high it was 250 /111 It was boader line heart attack or stroke i diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in the hospital and do you think i woud learn my lesson nope i didnt i did at the start but then i got into the same routine i never bothered looking after my self i would atart the drinking during the week 4 cans pee night then the drinking at the weekends and the cans on top of that but there is more to my story when i was 5 here in ireland i as abused by a preist and was slapped across the face by a nun i kept it bottled up until 2 years ago when i finally told my family i went to my gp he has me on metformin for my diabetes and a anti depressent for my anxiety and mental health trauma the advice i would give is drinking isnt the answer infact its a drug that will make things worse its a depressent that will kill you so stop drinking if you want to live longer and look after your heart and your liver especially beacause you only have 1 liver and 1 heart live life to the full when i was in hispital a month a ago there was a guy next to me who drank that much that he had a black out thats one of the reasons why i want to stop drinking during the week its not worth it Drink is a silent killer like blood pressre is i am on tablets for my blood pressure and it has improved i have to go back for a 24 hour blood pressure monitor in a few weeks you need to control the drink not the drink cintrolling you it took me a long time to realise that and i am a better man for it today.Well done steven keep it up

At one stage I was probably drinking average of 40-50 units a week, before I understood how much I was drinking. Then I set a 10 unit per evening limit, and drank 3-4 days in a row before having 4 days off (my work shift pattern). Didn’t hit that 10 units every night I drank but more often than not was close to it, occasionally over it slightly. Ive tracked my units meticulously for about 3 years so can say I’ve been on between 20-40 units per week long term (been a beer drinker about 8 years). 40 units would be about 12-18 pints depending on what your drinking. So not a heavy heavy drinker but some standards but enough for it to be unhealthy. What got me was craft beers. They sell stouts in 440ml cans that are 10+% and hide the alcohol taste with flavourings. They sell triple IPA at 10% which do the same. Easy to get used to the strength and consume more than intended. Over last 3 years the most alcohol I’ve consumed in one day is 14 units. That’s under 6 pints probably over 4 hour period. Again by some standards that’s rookie numbers. But the after effects of such levels of drink are enough to keep me from doing that. I quickly learnt to control my drinking to numbers where I get the buzz but don’t suffer massive hang overs. I am fortunate in that way. I can stop myself from drinking more and more. Those of you who can’t have it a lot harder than me.

@@Arto300-yn5fvvery true . There’s no justifying it. After 40 units in a week I feel utter crap. Takes days to feel my usual self again. It’s still damaging. I don’t want to go back to 30-40 units a week. But I don’t want to commit to sober for rest of my life either. Suppose everyone has to find what works for them and what’s best for them long term. If I had to set a limit then I think 10-20 units a week drank over multiple evenings , with the odd month off beer, the odd week off here and there, if you can do that long term with control and a good lifestyle otherwise then it’s probably not gonna be terrible for you. The best number is 0 obviously.
