Big fan of foot friendly shoes. I used to do everything in them, including running both road and treadmill and while it definitely helped my running form I indeed found my feet beat up and it just wasnt enjoyable. I believe we are definitely natural barefoot runners but where are the naturally occuring roads in nature? Now I run in cushioned foot friendly shoes and do everything else in barefoot shoes or just barefoot and running is so much more enjoyable :).

I am a distance runner. Typically running about 60 miles a week. I wear the Altra Escalante and a lot of Xero shoes. I am wondering what your thoughts on carbon plate shoes are? I tried running a 10k in some over the weekend and my feet were very unhappy about it…

If you’re competing, it would make sense to wear them to level the playing field against your competitors. No different than cleats / sport boots. They do have their advantages, but as you’ve noticed it usually comes at a cost! Makes doing the strength work, prehab, and rehab all the more important.

If you’re looking for sandals I can recommend Shamma sandals. They offer a few different sole thicknesses, and I believe mine are 12 mm (and zero drop), which I have found to be a nice cushion as someone new to barefoot shoes. I have worn them for many activities such as hiking, traveling in Europe and walks around my neighborhood. I have the Trailstars Omega model and they kind of look like Tevas. Hope that helps!

I would add there is nothing wrong with having different shoes to choose from. Some days after a hard run with barefoot shoes I'll put on normal running shoes for my rest day.

I transitioned to barefoot shoes last month, and for the last couple weeks averaging 5 miles a day on asphalt and concrete. Transition went fairly easy due to being fit, and doing nightly footsoaks to erase from my ankles and feet the memory of the beating they got that day.

Being barefoot only good, if you are in natural surfaces not hard tough surfaces, by walking for long period of times on hard surfaces, you will face heels pain. Avoid hard surfaces or have little bit cushioning.

@ashrise
@ashrise Жыл бұрын
You felt pain because you aren't used yet to barefoot shoes. It's not recommended to start by wearing them for a whole day. You should start by wearing them for a hour per day on the first week. Each week, you increase this time by one hour until you reach the 8 hour mark after two months. At this point, most people should be able to transition entirely to barefoot shoes without injury. Some people may progress more quickly, especially those who already spend time barefoot, but caution is recommended. If you are experiencing pain again, it may be a good idea to slow down your transition time. You have a lifetime of healthy feet ahead of you, so don't rush it ! I strongly recommend you to read the article named "Safely transition to minimal shoes" by Softstar, it will give you more details.

Grounding allegedly has positive mental benefits, but the data is not sufficient to really prove it right now
@ChannleDDD
@ChannleDDD Жыл бұрын
@DerPanzerLP It's more likely that what is actually happening is a placebo effect given by things grounding encourages (spending more time outside, removing stress, being active, ect) than any effect from negligible charge differences you get from grounding yourself (or more so dissipating your static charge). It's just a pseudomedical snake oil variation of "go touch grass."

Does anyone have recommendations for minimalist shoes that meet every criteria (foot shaped toe box, flexible, flat) other than thin soles? It would be pretty nice to get some for my job as I’m on concrete at work and average 20k steps. Normal minimalist shoes only last about 2 months before my feet start aching daily because of the wear.

Sorry, I had the wrong brand. Merrel is what I've been using. The grip can get a bit slippery on wet surfaces, but other than that it hits every criteria. I tried Vibram before and it was neither big enough nor wide enough for my feet, and I used a bigger size than what their chart gave me. My feet cramped constantly, I only used them for a month then ditched them. Figured barefoot shoes might just be a fad until I found a pair of Merrels and I've used them now for years. DO NOT GET VIBRAM, they are a popular brand, yes, but it's because all their money goes into advertising, and not into the quality of their shoes.

@HentaiWarlord
@HentaiWarlord Жыл бұрын
@@Youtub-kq3udthe mechanism described for grounding is not scientific at all, yes rubber insulates your feet from electricity but the only electricity you would get from the ground if you are walking on powerlines is static electricity which is created by friction of certain materials and such as body hair which you don't have on the sole. Any potential positive effects from this comes by a different not understood mechanism and the research has so far been inconclusive on any actual positive effects of "grounding". You can't claim grounding is the cause of any health benefits because you are attributing the effects to something that has no basis in reality
@jakubkopak9954

@@d3rpn1nj47Yes it’s super tiny but a lot of forces in our bodies are like this. It’s obviously not entirely scientific to assume it’s true but declaring it untrue also isn’t. Personally I’m ambivalent towards it until I learn more, but I generally hold a belief that if something was present in our environment during evolution then our body formed some kind of connection with it. Changing it practically never leads to positive outcomes. But since our environment changed it’s important to look at both sides of it - for example there might be positive impact from grounding but negative from absorbing industrial toxins through the skin
