I have nothing but respect for people like this, who work hard for a limited income but still remain upbeat and don't complain. I live in Rizal province with my family. We are very fortunate. I used to have my own business in Hong Kong which gave us a good living. I also owned property. Since relocating to the Philippines we are in a similar position, as we own property, have commercial interests and have a very decent income. My wife comes from a poor background. She fought hard to break out and made a lot of sacrifices before meeting me (I don't exactly come from wealth myself, but the situation in the UK is nowhere near as hard as it is in the Philippines for the 'lower' economic classes). We spread our wealth among the family, not through cash handouts, but by providing employment and funding education of a number of the kids. The latter is a priority as it provides an escape route. My step-daughter and niece are currently at university, studying Architecture and Pharmacy respectively, while a couple of others are at high-school, continuing their studies as opposed to going out to work. The younger ones are at various stages of school and hopefully they will do the same.

You and your family has big heart @joshuarizalforeman816 . Every time I heard stories like this, it makes me think, what if successful people like you and your family are helping each other, a lot of people could possibly be successful in the future too. Your family must be very thankful and feels lucky. God bless you and your family!

In my experience visiting the Philippines there are many that have food or shelter anxiety. I do agree that the people are amazing and that is the reason I am retiring there. Cost of living is super high in England, that's the main difference. Those who don't work either have disability or are looking for jobs. Those who simply choose not to work are receiving a pittance that goes nowhere. There's still first world poverty. Of course I also admire the filipino work ethic but to us in the west, it's often times outright slavery. But one thing I will say is they're much happier people 😊

I have quite a few long distance friends there that i have chatted with for years. Just getting a job is hard due to “requirements “ which include NBI, medical, etc.. roughly 3500. Some work longer hours just for food… a university education (or college) is needed for most jobs, including cashiers ..omg. While there is a middle class, we tend to hear more about the poor. Teachers and nurses are NOT earning a lot, but enough to live on. A saleslady friend in a mall earns 10-12 k a month, six days a week and long hours ( davao)

Excellent video. Prior to retirement, I had several Filipino accountants based in Makati for our US operations. One cultural difference between the US and the Philippines is willingness to discuss salaries. In the US, MOST employers frown on it. In the Philippines, you might as well post salaries as employees discuss it all of the time. The problem with that is that is that it is difficult to reward high performers in the office in any significant manner. Are their additional benefits in addition for employees? For example, in Mexico, employers are required to provide meals at work, grocery vouchers, social security fund payments. These benefits, in total, are worth as much as the salary they make.

🤣 I'm one of those that complain about the phones. There's a big difference in using your phone for the questions as a part of the interview, and people constantly looking at their phone during the interview when it has nothing to do with the questions asked. Thanks to all the ladies that were willing to be interviewed. It seems there was a common consensus among them all, that the minimum wage should be raised to at least 500 pesos. That MIGHT help out families, if they're financially responsible with their money, but it could also hurt. The business owner may not be able to afford to give that much, and in doing so the business may have to close, then there is no job and pay at all, especially if the owner is only renting the building and as cost of material and supplies keep going up, it'll make it much harder to make ends meet for them. Location also matters, if it's not in a touristy area it could be difficult to get customers in to buy things, if the pay is so low, how can the average person afford an expensive electronic.

Great video! Thank you for the insights! A salary comparison between different professions would be interesting, as well as the ratio regarding income and cost of living in the Philippines. Me for example I make 22 USD per hour, but since utilities, gas and groceries went up like crazy its not as much money here in the EU as it might seem. So this ratio would be very interesting in order to undestand how easy/hard it is to get by.

To live "like in Europe" you need about 50k pesos (about 800 €) in Cebu, probably about 30-40k pesos (500-650 €) in the provinces and 60-70k (1000-1150 €) in Manila. And it's not quite "like in Europe", but close to it. If you want to live like 90% of filipinos you can do it for way less than that, obviously.

About the same as Cambodia. Factory workers, garment or shoe factory, make about $150 to $200 per month. Long days, 6 days per week. That's about $6 to $8 per day. Small holding rice farmers make about $300 per crop and get 3 crops per year, but it depends on how much land they have. Many have a cow or two and the kids help out cutting grass for the cow to eat at night. When they sell an adult cow, they can get $500 so it's quite a big deal.

When we go to the mall and shop, I see families eating everywhere and wonder how they can afford to pay for 1-2000 peso per plate food. I cringe when I look at the menu sometimes. As well as McDo.. Its sad that the workers can work an entire 10-12 hour day and not be able to buy even one happy meal for their child. I was asking the same questions, but it seems like most Filipinos aren’t buying anything at the mall. They simply go for the aircon and cheap jolibee there. I took my girlfriend to shop at the mall and it was mostly rich Filipinos and foreigners actually shopping in the stores. If you go into the stores at the mall you’ll notice this. You can also see that most of the stores are practically empty, no customers. Most Filipinos are just walking around or eating at jolibee. The next time you go to the mall, when your at the exit, look around and notice no one is carrying any bags from the store. 90 percent of the people leaving are leaving empty handed.

living in Netherland and working for 3k euro looks similar, in Amsterdam small apartment rent with all media more than 2k euro, food, commuting, phone, internet, clothes, cosmetics, restaurant 2 times month with friends, some beer , health insurance and few basics spending's lead you to savings about 10 or 20 euros in the end of month if you lucky. I thing people that work for minimum wage, everywhere in the world have same problem and making double of minimum wage is just enough to survive not less.

Hi F. Family. Wages may be low but having a job is a great thing. Should wages be higher, goods and services will become higher and can create less affordable for many. Great job. Keep it up.

What is not mentioned is the "6 month contact" that many service people are forced to work under. This allows the employer to avoid benefits. It also means that the service people are not motivated do try to go above and beyond basic job function

I’d definitely like to support somehow Ms moral since she is a single mother of three I can’t imagine how hard it would be for her and her kids!

Guys next time you're out shopping or getting a meal at a local shop remember they are working 8 to 12 hours a day and are making less they what you make in One Hour give your server a nice tip 100 pesos is not much for you but it means a lot for them I am not saying just give it everyone but to the people who are treating you good and taking care of you and waiting on you take care of them

That’s actually what my husband does every time we went outside. He tends to give a lot to the workers. It’s funny but there are times that I used to tell him to give the right amount or fair tip. I remember the next day after we got married, we went to this very fancy restaurant in Makati and I was very surprised when my husband tip the worker 500 pesos. And when he was here in the Philippines for the first time, he told me that he used to give 500 pesos tip to the delivery kuyas. He said, he just based on how much he used to tip workers in USA. But even now, he still gives big tip to the workers, I think except when I’m around 😂😂.

I send my asawa 22,000 PHP a month and she gets by on that. I'd send her more but Sydney is expensive so I just send what I can spare (I also need to save for my visit every 6 months)

Any sales lady that work with clothes is a retail specialist even if they are selling electronics and if it’s food related they work in the food industry! More importantly they are entrepreneurs that create the communities for essentials that everyone needs which is crucial for any community to survive.

Imagine seeing them living with that salary and yet they are so much full of smiles and seems very happy. While most European and Americans makes 30x of their wages but still experiencing depression and always worried how to keep up with their bills.

Wow I just worked out the hourly rate for the lady selling chicken as you put up its an 8 hour shift. Thats £0.43 per hour in the UK. For context the minimum wage is £10.42 for someone who is 23+. That is 24.2 times higher. Now obviously the cost of living is drastically higher so it's all relative to an extent. Do the video again but ask what their monthly bills are including housing etc.

Very good and respectable interview for young ladies from different walks of jobs. I found them very humble, not complaining about their meagre salaries. Talk to any North American ladies or men and you will find most complaining and whining. Kudos to you for interviewing these beautiful hard working ladies.
