It's not a matter of how much a tradesman can earn in a day that can be hundreds but it only makes up for the days that he makes zero. Mostly due to customers messing him about or changing thing and not expecting to pay the extra for the change.
@Pro-plumbing17 күн бұрын
Hi @chisardern4594, if customers change things it costs more, and if it’s a time rate they pay for the extra time. A quote is a contract and the work gets done as agreed, unless an agreement is made to do more work or change the agreement. Regarding pay all materials are taken as a deposit and payment by card machine is due on completion so payment is never an issue. Yes I have cancellations but they rebook. There should never be a day that a good organised tradesman does not earn.

I'm a jobbing plumber that takes on all tasks sent my way. From roof repairs, full bathroom installations, full renovations, drains, collapsed ceilings, emergency work etc etc. Stay away from boilers now but have a great gas guy i work with. I mainly work for a medium size letting agency in the Midlands that are 80% students 20% residential I easily easily make 600 a day, every day profit without working long hours. If it gets hectic and I end up working 10-12 hours it's a grand plus no problem I got two decorators working full time too on redecs and make about 500 a week on them. All my mates went to uni and none of them make what I do except for one that's a big time barrister. It's good times for quality tradesmen atm. Best of luck to you

@Pro-plumbing23 күн бұрын
Yes nothing hidden, all my customers know what it will be or what the time change is. I would have preferred to do the radiator without a rad extension but the customer went for the quote with the rad extension rather than changing the pipework
@johnadams19767 күн бұрын
Personally I think that radiator job was VERY overpriced.... but if you find someone willing to pay it then, well... well done! As a customer I would have expected it to be less, and not be an extension to the rad pipe....
@Pro-plumbing7 күн бұрын
Hi @johnadamsq1976, price is subjective to the area you live in, as per other comments there was also bath taps to fit (which had to be cut out) and there were 2 quotes for this job one with and one without rad extension. After speaking with the client there were other people that quoted less but it came down to them believing I was the most trustworthy.
That 2 port valve job..... seems a lot to people I expect... but was it you that had to go there, work out what was wrong, go and get the part, come back, fit etc.... that would sound more reasonable. The video made it look like you walked in, spent a few minutes switching the actuator over and then leaving
@Pro-plumbing7 күн бұрын
Hi @johnadams1976, yes of course there is the use of knowledge and experience when doing the 2port valve job and changing the actuator, I talk to the client to assess the issue and get the job done.

That’s good money, I normally charge 60 first hour 40 thereafter if it’s booked in, 80 first hour same day/emergency call out in east anglia. I should charge more though really as I end up earning less jobbing than if I’m booked to a job for full days, as I never over fill my days incase something grows legs. Conscious of being too expensive though as only been set up just over 2 years.
@Pro-plumbingАй бұрын
@gunsey876, we as plumbers control the cost of plumbers in the uk, you need to value your time more. With overheads and all the time doing the books, advertising, responding to clients, doing invoices and questions ( list not extensive) this all adds into your hourly charge. My charges are : 65 first 1/2hr then £45 per 1/2hr thereafter (booked jobs) Same day or next day - £145 -1st hr then £60 per 1/2hr thereafter. Out of hours - £175 1st hr then £40 per 15 minutes thereafter. We controls the market and if you at a professional qualified plumber who does quality work then you and all of us deserve to be paid good money.

@Pro-plumbing12 күн бұрын
Hi @Tryell-Jemmott, thank you for your comment. i had a look in to the comments and not taking into mine or a continuation of a conversation i roughly put the tally at 7 natural / 7 against and 10 for, so its evident it a mixed response then 170 likes to 2 dislikes, ( you are more likely for someone to write a negative comment rather than a positive one, same goes for reviews on a business) but this is all irrelevant. What has to be taken into consideration with prices is where you live, how good you are ( evidenced by reviews) and how much work you are getting. I live in a very affluent area and are currently taking bookings for December into January these are booked jobs and not emergencies / out of hour jobs which will come in. Clients are happy with the work and prices, that's what i base my judgment on. There is a lot to do to get to charging the prices i do, for one you need to start your own business, with this comes overheads i have to pay, again people are more willing to pay that bit more knowing that they are getting a good plumber so reviews are a big part in how much you can charge 5* no negative reviews goes a long way. then there is word of mouth which most of my work comes from, if someone is recommending you to their friend / family then they are more likely to be happy to pay. in addition i don't do call out charges like some companies or do hidden charges; some companies put 20%-25% on materials so it looks like their labour charges are lower when in fact they are not. This video is on how much a plumber can earn, yes its subjective with the caveats above ( this is not what i always earn and is far from the most i have earned in a Day/night) Hopes this helps you in deciding what your charges would be, my advise would be, research your demographic and what your competitors are charging, to start lower and increase with experience and reputation.

While you have, British Gas cover £14 a month , they can do that cheaper , this is why you losing clients , you don’t look at the big picture there’s more companies than British Gas offering many services and if you plus that together is cheaper to pay yearly charge than your few costly jobs which will be equal to 3 years amount you charged in one day .
@Pro-plumbingАй бұрын
@edthelasttribe9580, this is true, However not all clients want to use theses companies as British gas’s and home heat for example lack the staff that know what they are doing, leave clients for days if not weeks with emergencies etc. You get what you pay for and clients can see that. All I hear from my clients is how bad British gas’s and home heat cover is and it’s a waste of money.

2:30 I am shocked and disturbed now. Thank you for your honesty. So called rich south UK. I have quoted £650 for hanging three large steel vertical rads (new pipework - copper pressed/soldered, brass munsen clips, cheap TRVs) in a big barn conversion. And the customer said no - allegedly I'm too expensive. Realistically, there was about £180 materials. Minus taxes - whole day of work - about £350-370 profit, without tool wear and tear. Perhaps it is time to start using a hot glue gun on pex pipes and flexis?

When providing Quotes, I will always give an estimate first so they know how much roughly it’s going to be, so if there not happy with the cost I don’t waste time doing a full quote. In addition, some people are out of touch on what it costs nowadays for professional trades people.

@@Pro-plumbingSouth of England makes the price more justifiable especially if you’re around London area. I’m east mids (Lincolnshire) and for that rad & bath taps I’d quote 5 hours (£220) & materials. (Inhibitor, rad, taps etc.) and I’d aim to profit 30% on materials. @williamtooth148, thanks for the comment I do both, I charge £65 for the first 1/2hr then £45 per 1/2hr thereafter,if the client wants to do a Quote it’s done at the time I think it’s going to take + extra 1/2-1hr to take into account any over sights. If it takes less time then better for me. By the 1/2hr works out to be fair for both parties but some clients want to know what it will cost in full which works for them, but most of mine do by the 1/2hr.

Thanks similar to what I charge down here in the south east. Too many plumbers sell their services too cheap in my view. @williamtooth148, Too right, running a business has its overheads. Reputation counts for something too as if you have good reviews and enough of them you can charge a bit more.
