It was wonderfully funny. And, for the Australians, there was the Philosophy Department of the University of Wallamaroo. Damn funny. Borat is the art of humour. Peoples who are intolerant of humour, are intolerant. . Sasha's point is demonstrated clearly. Kazakhstan has real flaws.

You would probably not find it funny if you were actually from Kazakhstan because they went waaaay further with the "jokes" than any you are mentioning. Good humor has some truth in it, but Borat was completely ridiculous. Its that simple. If a "joke" is a mean one or made out of complete ignorance, and on yourself while others are laughing, you will not laugh unless you lack some intelligence and selfrespect

I watched Monty Python and I only really loved the holy grail. I guess it was highly artistic but the fact it was a movie and Borat too helps a lot for that. I'll be honest and really enjoyed Borat when it came out (I was 16). Its just that I got a half Kazakh girlfriend, shes amazing and an architect living in Almaty, well anyway even she acknowledges that Kazakhstan has problems and that is some of the corruption and crime (due to a big gap in economical power) as we can see some shown here. Just watched the video too actually. That Kazakhstan has real flaws has come more to light by the publicity it gained cause of Borat which isnt necessarily a bad thing, but it wasnt the point of the movie, Cohen isnt thát sensible. Great art doesnt really know boundaries Id say but there is a saying: a master is shown in his restriction(s). A difference in what discussed earlier is that humor can really offend people, in this case a nation whereas art like a picasso can't be offending to you or anyone else. I dont really think its a big deal anyway, I just hate it when people around me for instance are so ignorant that all they know about Kazakhstan is from Borat while after some explaining to them most will know better, its just a bit sad there is a need to do this and people can be so stupid, all because from what you think is harmless comedy. It cant be denied this happens though.. even if only subconciously, surely most regular people will see the joke for what it is but its still painful. Gladly I live in Holland but i have seen American interviewers(!!) who actually believed most was based on reality.... Sorry for the long text

Now, I can reveal that I have done Standup. For my routine, I invented a character named Bubo Eisenbahnwagen who was the English teacher in Kazakhstan who taught Borat how to speak English. He comes to America to catch Borat and drag him back to Kazakhstan by "his hairs," to be punished for saying bad things about our country. I wore a costume and makeup and developed a pretty good accent. I got a lot of big laughs. I would even say that I blew the roof off the place. Sample: "We have good life in Kazakhstan. I have house; my house has wheels on it. My wife and I have 9 children of many different kinds. ... " "I win contest. I have more teeth than neighboring village. I like crunchy toast. In morning I say my wife, "Crunchy toast please." She make crunchy toast for me, I like very much. One morning I bite my crunchy toast and it is very, very crunchy. I look inside. There are fish bones in toast." I say, "My wife, how you make fishbones in toast?" ... etc. "Now, every morning, I have my fishbone toast with goat cheese on. Is crunchy cheesy good and good for me. Makes me strong like fish." Anyway, I got called back for an encore. In the encore, I made fun of the Soviet Union. My avatar here is from the video of my standup.
