For me it was just over $400. I don’t even own a fish yet as I’m cycling but in no world would I imagine this was how much it would cost me just for the essentials like chemicals, heater, filter, LED, substrate and food not even including plants, decor and the actual fish as it makes me kind of regret starting this hobby. Hopefully I’ll be happy with the outcome soon :/
@Pharmaquatics3 жыл бұрын
can definitely relate - my first betta was a gateway into the hobby altogether, but no regrets from my side!

About 2 weeks ago I got gifted a betta that was living in a very small bowl for a year, as soon as I saw it I knew what I had to do since I did my research a few months ago, now he lives in a 10 gallon tank with its filter, heater, hides, but need to buy new silk plants since I had plastic ones that I thought it was soft enough but then it shredded its fins so I took it out

Sadly the prices are a nightmare now, 2023... definitely wish I still had all my equipment from back in the day... couldn't always conveniently store huge tanks & equipment, but can always keep a betta 😉 they do travel well!!! Small can be great!!! 😊

After watching your video, I was inspired to check out what I spent on mine, so here it goes. Marineland Contour 3 gallon tank...$59.52 Fluval P10 10w heater......................$16.99 Gravel 5lbs........................................$19.47 Zoo Meds digital thermometer........$9.79 Tetra Aquasafe Betta conditioner....$3.99 Aqua Culture air pump......................$8.77 Air line tubing.....................................$1.88 Air stone.............................................$1.38 Assorted plants.................................$25.00 Seachem Flourish..............................$7.95 Hikari Betta Bio-Gold pellets.............$2.99 Tetra Freeze Dried Bloodworms.......$3.52 and last but not least I'm including the cost of my betta whom I've named Thanos $30.00 for a grand total of $191.25. Unless you buy everything at once it really doesn't seem like you are spending that much. This was all purchased over a period of a couple weeks. BTW Thanos is a Purple Dumbo Halfmoon, he's very handsome.

Great video, very informative! I did pick up a fantastic 14gal cube rimless aquarium during this most recent dpg Petco sale for $75... so it's possible to get some very fancy and large digs for your betta (and his friends) on the cheap in that sale :)
@Pharmaquatics3 жыл бұрын
that's a steal - thanks for sharing so others know!

Just fyi, Petco doesn't do the dollar a gallon sales anymore. It's now a 50% off only Aqueon tanks. Just an example, I just got a 6g rimless cube tank that comes w a lid for $35. They had a 5.5 rimless that was cheaper by aprx $10, but it doesn't come w a lid so that's another $20 because it's a weird size. So pay attention to if it comes w lid or how much that'll be if not. They also had a standard 10g for only $12.50 + tax. AND THE SALE IS ON NOW AS OF 3/23!!

Great video! I mainly watched it to see how I did, and I enjoyed your previous videos (new to the channel). I really do think 2023 had a lot to do with how much I spent plus no sales when I decided to go all in! I bought all the essentials, 5gal tank, substrate, live plants and more.. it came out to about $384!! I was surprised, I expected to stay around 200 but the fish tank was 100 by itself. It did come with a filter, pump and light. I ended up going back to return 2 items and got $34 back, which included a betta log that cost 14.99. I need to find a cheaper version because I still want one. while I was at the petco store I looked for a few more things I needed: longer plants to add, tongs, salt, plant bulbs that were about $5, and another water test strip kit. Spent $45 lol!!. I also still need a fishnet, and I would love to add some water lettuce.

Fortunately, one of my friend lend me the tank, heater, filter and light. Another friend of mind gave me some plants from the trimmings of his tank, my parents had a few old decorations from their old fishtank so i grabbed those. So all I had to get was the substrate and a few extra plants, and water conditioners. That was still upwards of 100 bucks

You should make 1 more videos on making blackwater habitat setup for bettas especially wild bettas. Minus the tanks and aquascapes the peice of wild betta are already high. And endemic bettas such as persephone, livida, and rubra cam cost a fortune.

How do I change a 3.5 gallon tank what are the steps

My beta is so picky 😂😂. I got him pellets first day i got him. He loves pellets. But the blood worms i got for him. He tried it and spat it back out 😂. Tried a few more times. Same thing happens. Spat it back out. I went to get him frozen bloodworms. As Thats what he’s used to. He saw me when i woke up . And did a happy dance. I’ve never seen that before. But it’s just the cutest thing ever. I wouldn’t change this for the world. I don’t go out and don’t have anyone. So i rather do this to keep me busy and my dogs

If you can get a measuring spoon small enough (something like 1/64th of a teaspoon), Seachem Safe is very cost-effective particularly if you have multiple tanks. It is the powder form of Seachem Prime.
