I honestly think its just say that when they report numbers to their peers and others , their reported numbers are bigger , thusly more impressive and indicative of success. Espeically as other people keep reporting that way.... Only encourages other to keep fluffing numbers and cutting accounting corners. I have really tried to talk financial turkey with anyone remotely willing over the last 30 years in my area and the amount of people bad/lazy at the math has been so close to all of them. Definitely appears to be how it is with most. I certainly love being in the presence of people actually decent at accounting in some capacity.
