Have you ever wondered how much a quartered bull elk weighs?
How many of your buddies have said, "man, that back quarter weighed at least 85 pounds!" And you're thinking, "there's no way it weighs that much!" Today the truth comes out!
Beau Baty and Marcus Hockett are in the field taking care of Beau's 2018 Montana public land bull elk. They both believe that this is a four and a half-year-old bull with a big body. Both of them have always wondered how much the quarters weigh on a bull elk, so today they decided to find out!
To make things more fun, each of them will guess the weight of the meat before weighing it. You will be surprised as to how close/far their guesses are!
Check out Beau's KZbin Chanel! bit.ly/2PeVTCz

The oysters must've been 8lbs. LOL Good stuff fellers. Love this sort of stuff added in as a bonus feature. Thanks for the extra effort.

I enjoyed this video being able to see what you came up with compared to what I've seen with our elk. My brother shot a bull 4 years ago that the deboned meat weighed in around 280# (don't remember to the exact pound) at the butcher. My dad's bull this year was 268# deboned. This doesn't include head/antlers.

It doesn't weigh all that much the first quarter mile of packing. After 2 miles it weighs a ton. After 3 miles and 4000 feet vertical climbing up and down through revines, stumps and logs, it weighs as much as Sagitarius A.

Cool bull fellas! My bull this year was a nice mature bull, 4 quarters boned out, neck meat, backstraps, tenderloins, whole shanks, *not including the head/rack, weighed 237lbs...an easy pack out for a few llamas, if i had any!

Little lighter than I thought, could be because I'm getting older and I'm the Llama. Twenty five years ago I hunted and packed with two horses until I decided they were more trouble than my wife on the mountain, trying to keep them happy . Llama seems more like a dog, just good company.

Good comparison. They are very low maintenance and very useful.

This is a perfect video. My friend who hasn't done much big game hunting, was adamant that he would have no problem carrying 2 quarters himself in the event we couldn't haul it out whole. Funny sight once he realized one alone was gonna be a chore... Deboned to boot.

I have always guessed that our elk weigh in the 400-500 pound range when we drag them out of the local mountains. We generally dump the guts and then pull them out with ropes and a vehicle. Having close to a mile of ropes makes pulling an elk out of a steep mountain canyon much easier.

Rocky's vary sooo much in body weight depending on the age. I've had bulls where 2 guys could pack him out in one trip with the bone in, I've had others that 4 guys had stupid heavy packs of Deboned meat. Both 6 points...not a spike vs a herd bull. Rocky hinds in my areas typically go from 65-95 lbs...ive seen one or two bigger but wasnt able to weigh them but one was a 412" bull, his quarters, I would put money on were well over 100lbs

I love your videos. I have a quick question for you because I either missed the posted video or you haven’t made one on it yet but, what do you use more? Your gps or your phone? I know when you first started you were all about the gps but now I see you using your phone more and more. I have been using my phone a lot more now days too. Was just curious as to what your preference was and why

What advantages do the llamas have over horses?

Lower maintenance, more nimble, yet horses have some other benefits that work better for other styles of hunting.

When I was in Peru, I was told a llama could carry 66kg (145.2lbs). I saw a kid about 13yrs old riding one like a horse in Cuzco.

From our research and time spent in South America we have found that anciently working llamas carried on average 45 KG per day (99-100) pounds. We have found that with our herd of working llamas that 20%-25% of their body weight seems to be the safe working zone.

I'm back in 2022.... getting the knees ready for Sept. I had a person on the trail ask if I felt like a man shooting an animal.. I said no. I feel like a man packing it though. Regardless if it's 300 feet from a road or 5 miles.

Lol depends on how well the elk eat and where what state he’s in food supply and how old he is but good general estimate 🤔😁
