I always wanted to be a doctor but after coming to the USA from I got distracted when in college (I found it unnecessarily boring) and my grades were just not good enough for a US medical school… I didn’t finish college because my parents didn’t want to finance it and I didn’t want any student loans so I left and got a job as a lab technician… I was actually complaining to myself how my pay was “low” but surprisingly I make more than a government school teacher (degree needed) and almost the same as a typical RN and the same as a medical lab tech (degree required.) I see why so many UK doctors are not satisfied with pay… just after taxes and the student loan deductions, you guys are actually pocketing less money than a Walmart truck driver here in Atlanta georgia… or a master plumber. IMHO, they need to make the education FREE by leveraging new technology like streaming lectures etc online.

@@DrSermedMezhermy cousin is a senior specialist doctor. He works for the NHS. He makes €34k a year. He said the nurses with over 20 years of experience get only €24k a year. I think you are lying. My cousin showed me videos snd pictures of Liverpool. My god! The whole streets are closed down. Endless poverty as the eyes can see. The only shops are cheap Chinese food and pawn shop. He said people pawn their belongings just to get by. Reality and movies are 180 degree. He plans on moving to the states. He said UK is a poor and dying country with no future or hope. He feels so betrayed working for NHS. I thought, NHS is the pride of UK to bash the americans on how good their healthcare is but he explains they have to wait months to get an appointment, only 10 minutes per patient and only one problem at a time. He feels like he is sinning against the poor and the hopeless working for the NHS. My cousin plans on moving to the US in 2024. Cheers, I know it tough working in a s!hth0l€ country like the UK but I'm happy that you find meaning and purpose in serving the weak amd the poor.

Nope. The UK MAKES SURE you’re a doctor to be a doctor, and not a money hungry fool. This mans a medical doctor, he has one of the best jobs on earth. The housing costs (Unless talking about London) are way more affordable than a small rural area in the states. Think $200k for a 4bd home, 100 minute ferry to France and a 3 hour train ride to Paris. They have no student loan debt for higher education, or entering education. They have no health insurance to pay. If you factor a US pediatrician earns $176,000 but has $250,000 in loan debt, that equates to 28% taxed and a $3,000 a month debt payment before medical insurance, or a mortgage. The UK also allows 45 year mortgages to average out the debt, and it taxes individually even if married.

@@jwr8657 the UK taxes independently.. 50k or less is only taxed at 20%. This means a married couple can net 80k. Do the math on what you’d have to gross solo to hit 80k net after the 40% tax lol. I don’t know where you’re shopping around, Dover is extremely affordable.

So doctors should accept that their pay is worth 35% less than it was 15 years ago?
@juntus89
@juntus89 Жыл бұрын
@@DrSermedMezher Doctors should absolutely accept it yes. You do realize that a persons salary is simply an idea of what a persons input into society is worth, yes? It's an abstraction. What a person "deserves" for their work is more or less arbitrary and wealth is relative to a persons lifestyle. The current salary a doctor is on is more than sufficient to enjoy a comfortable life. It's pure greed and ego that forces someone on 32k to ask for 8k more a year. Shame on all those inconsiderate, ungrateful, whiney doctors.
@DrSermedMezher
@DrSermedMezher Жыл бұрын
@@juntus89 Interesting perspective. Here are some things to consider: 1) Is it greed and ego to want to own your own house? Or does that help to provide a person and their family with security and stability? Is it greed and ego to want to live close to your family, like in London for example? 2) Is a person's contribution to society really an abstraction? Or are there a few things we can use to measure that value like: - How easy are they to be replaced? - How difficult was it for them to be trained? - What impact does their work have on others? - What would happen if their work wasn't done? - How complex is their work? - What degree of responsibility do they hold? - How common are the underlying skills and intelligence required to do that work? 3) Is wealth really relative to a person's lifestyle? A person's lifestyle is significantly limited by how much they earn. Of course, the less you spend, the more you save. If a person earning £50,000 spends almost none of their salary then they still would never have the lifestyle of a millionaire. Wealth is purchasing power which determines opportunities and can give you flexibility and a safety net in times of hardship. It would be great to hear your viewpoint on each of the things that I have mentioned.
@juntus89
@juntus89 Жыл бұрын
@@DrSermedMezher *Some things. That's actually two words, not one word ("somethings"). I thought doctors were supposed to be smart. Here are your answers: 1) Yes. The desire to own a house of your own stems from ego. The type of life you CHOOSE to live derives from the ego. You can secure a mortgage on a doctor's salary without issue. Living in London is a choice - people on less money than yourself manage to reside there whilst holding a mortgage. If you set up an expensive lifestyle relative to your income then that's on you. Take responsibility instead of demanding greater pay. Adapt. 2) I stated that VALUE was abstraction. The price we place upon things largely depends on what we BELIEVE it is worth. Such designations are entirely arbitrary; they hold no objective truth. The fact that you are *contesting the pay* that doctors receive clearly demonstrates that statement. This dispute over pay necessary depends upon the comparison to wages over a decade ago. Ergo, it is a product of your ego that is refusing to accept the notion of "less money" based upon a comparison. On the money you apparently earn, you should have no reason to grumble. Only your egoic mind can cause unrest. 3) Obviously wealth is relative. You literally just asked the question, then answered it. 🤦 What does any of this have to do with "millionaires"? You can be wealthy without being a millionaire. Wealth is disposable income, do yes if you adapt and manage your finances in a frugal way, you will naturally have greater funds at your disposal. But if your mind is absent from the present, if your thoughts are constantly on the horizon and what you THINK you need or "deserve", then you will never be satisfied. Doctors may have intellect, but intellect is not wisdom. Sermed, you do not ostensibly possess much in the way of wisdom. Many of those who go on strike are motivated by reasonable justification, such as the request to earn enough to live on. Or to raise awareness of conditions at work. But now this domino effect has begun and everyone wants "more money". That's what it's about essentially. A contagious greed spurred on by unrealistic resolutions by delusional union bosses. You'll never see half of that 35% you want lol. You'll be lucky to get 7% pay increase. It is entirely indefensible for those already with the means of living a comfortable life to protest, especially when the NHS is in crisis. It is utterly shameful. Doctors salary goes UP in a matter of a few years typically to at least double what they start out with. And they will always have a job available to them. So tell me Sermed, what have you to actually protest about? All you need to do is change your perceptions and expectations, and adjust to the current reality. Contentment has nothing to do with money. Don't let your ego get in the way of true wisdom.
@DrSermedMezher
@DrSermedMezher Жыл бұрын
Hi Juntus, To summarise your points, briefly: 1) Wanting to own your home and live close to your family or have a pay rise stems from ego and therefore it is arrogant to even consider that, even if your pay has been eroded over the years. 2) Assigning value is arbitrary since it is an abstraction and cannot be measured by any of the things I mentioned. 3) Your financial wealth is not limited by your salary. Be frugal and take responsibility, you will be wealthy. So you think that all people who are unfairly treated should just accept it without defending themselves? You're right, the NHS is in crisis and why is that? Mass workforce exodus. Chronic underfunding. Systematic dismantling and auctioning services to private establishments. Your point: Why fight it? Just let it happen.
