I built an Atmos studio for $5000aud that's about $3000usd. KRK speakers, adat expander, sonar works multichannel. It's pretty easy. If the gear is good enough to mix stereo it's good enough to mix Atmos.

I struggle to get music to sound good in stereo. I don’t have enough time left in my life to learn how to mix in this format!

Mixing in Atmos is easier than mixing in stereo IMHO. You don’t need to work nearly as hard to make everything fit.

@@SonicScoop to me, there are just too many extra decisions to make and for very little benefit. Virtually no one is even listening in Atmos 🤷🏻♂️
@SonicScoopАй бұрын
That’s a totally different concern! Yes, it’s not relevant for all listeners. But it is even easier to do, which I know is counterintuitive.

There is a problem with Adam's statement at around 49:00 by saying the project studio could benefit with providing Atmos mixes to "drop it into film" for theatrical releases. First, only the L-R channels are allocated for music in Atmos theatrical releases according to Trevor Horn, so you'd be better off letting them drop in your stereo mix. Having said that, even if music could be allocated to the surrounds and heights, the panning decisions done with music would most likely conflict with the panning decisions of the movie production, which is probably why stereo L-R is the protocol for music in Atmos film releases.
@SonicScoopАй бұрын
Yes, we discuss this later on. Most music in cinema is delivered LR only, often with stereo stems. That said, there may be some special cases, notably concert films and the like.

Looks like you're deleted some comments. It shows 16 comments were left, but only 4 is showing. This is not the first time I have noticed this in KZbin video lately. Anyway, you always have good content in your video. Thanks again 😊

I don’t delete comments unless they are profane. But you may have the comments sorted by “most relevant” instead of “newest”, which ends up hiding some comments.

Hmmm... not sure that asking gear manufacturers if a new heavily pushed (and proprietary!!) audio format requiring studios to purchase a LOT of new gear to be properly heard & implemented is or isn't affordable or too expensive is such a good idea. Not sure at all. Maybe needs a couple of other people in this conversation, from very different angles, to be even vaguely realistic and relevant, IMHO. Else, it looks just promotion and gear shilling, and more Atmos pushing. Just sayin'...

I’ve done other episodes on Atmos with other perspectives. I don’t think Atmos is the everyone. But if you’re interested in it, you should know what it’s about, how much it costs and what your options and requirements are. Try this for my full thoughts: kzbin.infoWu7boaGFpac?si=cX1TkViSSYavznWX

The corporate push for atmos has failed , evem apple failed miserably to generate interest from the general public ... apple muaic still only represents a small % of the streaming market... the desperation of those seeking to profit from atmos feels like what happened at the end of NFTs/metaverse . The current failimg corporate push seems to be AI but unlike the other things AI is far more likely to be the « here to stay future »

@@Dystopian84 - Couldn't agree more. I remember when a local "serious" studio run by friends sunk thousands into a mixing setup for the Metaverse, to prepare themselves for the future. What a waste. There will always be grifters promoting a fabled next big thing, and marks lining up with their wallets open.
