hi friends!! I'm finally answering the most commonly asked question about Yale - exactly how much does it cost? I break everything down and show you the exact values including tuition costs, room and board, insurance, text books, travel and more! I then discuss how financial aid works at Yale, and show you how much you could receive in aid based on your family's income range.
almost all of this information is also available on Yale's website. disclaimer - this video is just my understanding of the costs and financial aid for me. these amounts will be different for everyone, and they will change from year to year. if you want to learn more about affordability and financial aid at Yale for your specific situation, please check out their official website (linked below) or email the financial aid office.
also!! I should have said this in the video but this same financial aid is available to all Yale college students, regardless of citizenship or immigration status. Yale also has need-blind admissions for all students (international and domestic), which means that you will not have a disadvantage in the admissions process if you require financial aid.

Hey! I was accepted to Yale in December and got my financial aid package, the "first year allowance" is essentially an amount of money that you are likely to spend as a first year that isn't a reoccuring expense. Basically like winter clothes (considering most students are coming from different climates), bedding, dorm supplies, etc. :)

In England we pay like €10,750 per year on a 3 year course. It’s limited at that for every university in the country. All in all, the full degree is equal to half of 1 year at Yale. Crazy

Yale decides who to admit and only then looks at finances. It gives every admitted student enough financial aid to cover what is needed. Every admitted student can afford to attend. My dad earned, adjusted for inflation, about $50,000. Tuition, room and board, adjusted for inflation was $24,470 in today’s dollars I ended up saving enough over 4 years, from work, to buy a new vw bug at graduation to drive to California for grad school. Don’t worry about the cost. If you are admitted Yale loves you. It really does. It will take care of you.

I'm doing an LLB in Australia and with the increase in uni fees over the last 2 years it feels like it would be cheaper to go to Yale. We have HECS, but we have to repay it and there's inflation. There's a few minor scholarships, but they don't pay much and are very hard to get. Books, housing et al... so expensive and not covered under HECS. It's so cool that Yale gives their students so much financial aid that doesn't just cover tuition. What a fantastic school. I think it is cheaper for you to go there than to study at home sadly.

In Switzerland it does cost some money to go to university, but it’s affordable for everyone (btw you‘re also not living on campus here). It depends from university to university but the costs are between 1000-4000 francs (1100-4400 US dollars) thats not mutch. And our universities are not worse than yours, in the contrary, they are really good. And to everyone who wants to know it because he or she is interested in studying here: as far as I know we do not have one university like Yale, where you can study all kind of subjects. Each university is specialized for one subject (for example science, or theology, or English, or psychologies) Our whole school system is pretty different. Would be a long story to tell.

@@heatherbach4058 yes we have HECS but finiancial aid is like scholarship where they don't need to pay back as Tia mentioned in the video it covers most of her costs. HECS we do need to pay back fully once you have jobs after graduate whereas financial aid is basically you receive some free money in that way (depends on your family income) so finiancial aid is def better.

That's about what it is in Australia. Although they changed the fees this year so an arts degree is now the same cost as a law degree about 12-14,000 AUD. Many students stay at home while they are at uni so don't pay for any accomodation because college/student housing can be expensive.

in the video, I discussed how much it costs to attend Yale and the different financial aid options available. I specifically stated in the video that I will not be disclosing my personal financial aid information as that is very confidential and involves my parents’ financial situations. I stated this multiple times and also gave the reason for it. I am not allowed to, nor do I wish to, disclose this information. It also would not be helpful for anyone as what I receive in financial aid will be different to what every other student receives. So it wouldn’t help you figure out how much aid you could get because you wouldn’t know any of the contextual information (my family’s financial situation). If you are interested in knowing how much you may receive in aid from Yale, there is a financial aid calculator on their website.
