We had a lot of comments saying people who live on narrowboats don't need to buy a TV Licence. This is incorrect. By law, residential boat owners need a TV Licence to watch live television (any channel), or catch-up TV on the BBC iPlayer (which we do). This is true no matter what device is used, how the programmes are received, or whether the boat is cruising or moored. I'm too young to own a boat, but seeing your videos and the enjoyment it brings, not only to Colin, but to Shaun and Otis as well is truly inspirational. The history, research, time and dedication put in by you all is amazing, especially when considering your move was for Colin's mental health. You chaps are true inspirations not only to the Canal world, but to anyone and everyone who is struggling with any form of mental health issues. The serotonin released from your videos is incredible. Thank you for all you do and best for the future.

The cost of depreciation/replacement of the boat must be a big item to put into the list. And if one day you need to be back on land there is the problem that bricks and mortar are likely to have gone up in price as the narrow boat has gone down - not literally! You might be stuck if you didn’t have a significant amount of money put aside. Looks like a great life and it’s great to see how you look after one another.
@FoxesAfloat3 жыл бұрын
The price of our boat has increased significantly over the last two years, bucking the myth that all boat prices always go down. The list is our outgoings, hence depreciation doesn't form part of that because the value has actually increased.
@johnmangham28023 жыл бұрын
@@FoxesAfloat That makes sense! I suppose you just have to be really committed. But I think moving back on land when you get older would likely.

Even when the show is about math (maths for the non-Americans), it's still entertaining. My husband and I will be retiring soon to the American version of narrow boating--RVing. Your videos are applicable to the road too! Love you three!

That is awesome! Thanks guys!

Great breakdown, lovely drone shots. One of funniest things I saw on TV this year was a narrowboat based programme with Timothy West teaching Sheila Hancock and Gyles Brandreth to manoeuvre a wide beam ! It is sad that Prunella Scales has had to give up making their series as was light hearted and surprisingly, unintentionally funny. I used to love the scenes where she was struggling getting on and of the boat, wrestling with lock gates and he just sat there, lamenting Pru’s failing health on his a*se running into bridges and quoting Shakespeare!! Keep safe, regards from the Solent Coast. AJ

You guys painted a picture of a Rolodex of envelopes full of cash with each one marked for a specific expense and one marked SURPRISE EXPENSE. Your system is as good as anyone’s. I’m afraid I’d have an envelope marked PUBS, WINE, BEER, CHIPS, SCOTCH and that just might be the thickest envelope. Good video it sounds like you have your ducks in a row!

Sounds like a fantastic envelope 🤣🤣🤣

Your 11,600 British Pounds comes out to about 16,000 US Dollars. Not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. If I ever get over there, I'll just move in with ya'll though. Pay my weekly dues and it'll all be good. And I wouldn't take up much room on the couch! LOL Very informative and entertaining!

Great vid. With narrowboating becoming more popular do you ever feel like there's to many boats out on the canals? Moring spaces becoming crowded, etc..?
